Some of you had early warning of this event via email, to those who are only just finding out I apologise as I cannot remember everyone who is not on the email list. For those who are not on the email list and have an email but are concerned about junk or others contacting you unwantedly, I only use BCC and know one but me sees your email address and I am not in the habit of giving out the membership email address. The calendar for 2021/22 is on page two. All events are subject to numbers and COVID restrictions. Some of us will be fishing the Dartmouth Cup on the long weekend and representing the section at the event. Members are reminded that the section will pay teams entry to a sanctioned fishing event, but individual registration is the members responsibility. Our last event was to Eucumbene with 15 members attending, including two new members. Welcome Phil and Sandra. For most parts the weather was spectacular with a bit of a breeze now and then and rather coolish in the mornings. For some, the fishing was very good and it was very pleasing to see the results of some hard work by a couple of the members. Some spectacular fish were caught over the weekend including a very nice fish taken outside competition times, well done Brady, nice fish. There were 37 fish presented for the weekend. Results for the weekend are as follow: Men’s best bag, Brendan 10 fish, 9.31kg. A small amount of water has flowed down the system ( too small for fish to move up) and this small flow has remained clean. The Monaro Acclimatisation Society has been in negotiation with Snowy Hydro over the commissioning date for the project and we have asked Snowy Hydro to delay any significant flow until after the close of the trout season (June long weekend), to avoid unnecessary impact on angling. However, I have received a number of complaints about many anglers driving across the river and this is causing the water downstream of random river crossings becoming turbid, disturbing spawning trout and potentially destroying already laid eggs. Anglers should note that Snowy Hydro has delayed commissioning of the works and have made a commitment that on commissioning the flow will be regulated to avoid turbidity in the water – but on the other hand anglers see fit to drive across the river, potentially damaging spawning redds, laid eggs and causing unnecessary turbidity in the river. The MAS will be speaking with Snowy Hydro and NSW Fisheries in the near future to decide how to approach and deal with this issue, but the MAS is committed to ensuring that our trout are protected as are their eggs. Anglers can assist by not driving across the river, the walk downstream will do you good.
