Welcome to Our Global Campus SPRING Semester 2021 Global Campuses Foundation (GCF), a 501(c)(3), supports adults with differing abilities worldwide in the development of campuses for higher learning. Academics are tailored to an individual’s Northeast Kingdom Human Services, passions, interests and abilities. In Upper Valley Services, Lincoln Street, addition to being a student learner, each Inc., Lamoille County Mental Health participant is given the opportunity to Services, Champlain Community lead classes and teach to their peers. Key Services, Families First, and Washington to our mission is valuing the voice and full County Mental Health Services, as participation of adults with disabilities well as a wide variety of individuals, in the development and operation of organizations and businesses that each Global Campus. GCF partners with support the work of the campuses. Featured GC Bradford Participant Drew Drew has been joining us at GC Newport for several semesters now and he brings with him his friendly face and his caring heart. When Drew first joined, he sat quietly near the back of the room, but that soon changed. He began to raise his hand, share news and updates, lead seminars, and then teach classes. Drew is very adept at using technology, especially creating PowerPoint presentations. He makes his own presentations and presents them on his own. This semester, he will showcase his experience as an educator once again when he teaches his class. Global Campuses Foundation 2020~ 2021 Academic Year Theme OUR NATURAL WORLD Take a journey with us this academic year as we explore our natural world. From the depths of the oceans to highest mountain peaks, we will learn about the world around us, what part humans play and what we can do to preserve our natural resources. Each campus will find unique and creative ways to explore this theme as the year unfolds through science, art, music and literature. Virtual Learning In person classes were suspended last spring due to COVID-19 but our learning continues! The campuses meet weekly and many participants have continued teaching via Zoom. Spring semester begins at the beginning of April and we will continue our learning virtually and follow VT Department of Health guidelines about when we can meet again in person. Please join us this spring for some exciting online classes! How to Participate at a Global Campus AS A STUDENT LEARNER PARTICIPANT you can register for educational offerings and become a learning member of the campus; AS A FACULTY PARTICIPANT you can teach and share about a subject, topic, skill, and/or experience; AS A STAFF PARTICIPANT you can become a staff member of the campus supporting its development and successful operations. AS A COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER: Community volunteers are encouraged to participate in a variety of ways: assisting participants with research and class planning, supporting our faculty participants during their classes, co-teaching classes and helping with community service projects. Sara takes us on a magical journey into Coventry as she discusses one of her favorite movies, Twitches. Nate takes us all on a virtual journey to Brazil. She will discuss the different types of diabetes, the causes of this disease, and how someone can treat or possibly reverse the condition. 6 ELITE NERF STRIKE MAGMA DRAGOON FACULTY: Drew DATE: Thursday, May 20 1:30pm - 2:00pm ZOOM: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/830359324 In this class, Drew blends his love for the Mega Man character Magma Dragoon with his love of Nerf guns. He will discuss the character, its origins, and how he made his own version of the character utilizing Nerf guns. Get ready for a fun ride! 7 ESSENTIAL OILS FACULTY: Josh DATE: Thursday, May 27 1:30pm - 2:00pm ZOOM: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/830359324 Join Josh for his first class at GC Newport. In this class, Josh will discuss the benefits from essential oils and how these fragrances can both improve and enrich someone’s life. 8 THE LITTLE MERMAID FACULTY: Dawnita DATE: Thursday, June 3 1:30pm - 2:00pm ZOOM: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/830359324 Dawnita is a big fan of fairy tales and happy endings and in this class, she will talk about one of her favorite stories of all time, The Little Mermaid! Global Campuses Foundation received generous grants from Mascoma Bank, Vermont Mutual Insurance Group, and the Agnes M.
