1.03.22 Product News: *** County Line Farm’s Chicory program should start for this weekend menus, but there will be a very limited mix this season due to growing in a different area (Riverside County) and limited amounts of Italian seeds to plant. But there is some good news from County Line, there will be a Petaluma season this year as their reservoir has filled from the heavy rains in December! Basil: Quality is only fair and we are rejecting a third to half of the product we are receiving for brown and wilting leaves on arrival. Cool and wet weather in Northern Baja is affecting the quality. We are keeping up will all orders at this point but please be aware of short shelf life on this item. Cabbage: All Cabbages will be active this week due to the recent and upcoming rain in California. Product is tight and is subject to proration and we are expecting further price increases this week. Conical cabbage is in stock from Miller Farm and is of excellent quality! Garlic: Domestic garlic market continues to be very active into the new year due to port and transpor- tation issues. Prices are high but steady. Chinese product is over half the US market so domestic grow- ers need to slow things down to manage supply. This is part of a global supply chain issue. Spice World will not have peeled garlic for us until later in the new year. The shortage of China product has caused their peeling production to fall behind and they do not have enough CA product to cover sales. Chris- topher Ranch product is in stock, but very expensive. Organic whole peeled in stock from Christopher Ranch. Ginger: The quality of Chinese Ginger continues with poor quality and we have now switched to organ- ic Peruvian product until the Chinese product improves. Peruvian ginger is slightly more fibrous than the Chinese product but quality has been good. Grapes: California Green grapes are done and we are now into Peruvian produce. Red Grapes are in short supply until about mid-January. California season is done and imports are not yet available. Lettuces: Iceberg, Butter, Green Leaf, Red Leaf & Romaine Lettuces all have some damage from the frosty conditions in the Yuma & southern California desert growing areas. We will be assessing damage and quality at our receiving dock this week. These conditional issues will continue this month until the weather warm. County Line Farm’s baby mixed heads are limited to stock on hand until Thursday. Slow growth is limiting many of the usual varieties and County Line with make a mix out of Little Gem, Lollo Rosa, Baby Green & Red Romaine. Mandarins: Satsuma Mandarins are finished for the season and we have moved to Page Mandarins this week. Kishu Mandarins are in stock from Ventura County, case is 9 lb. This variety has a short season, take advantage of these delicious little mandarins while they are available! Mushrooms: Gourmet Mushroom Company is having supply issues with Alba and Brown Clamshell Mushrooms, both are limited/gapping. Also Chef’s Sampler pack is limited to start the week. Chante- relle Mushrooms are done locally for the season and we have moved to Hedgehog which are in stock. Black Chanterelle (black trumpet) supplies are steady. Fresno area still has orchard Morel mushrooms, but they are pricey and there have been some quality issues due to rain. . Call Us at 415.647.2991.
