BEST OF BREED COMPETITION Best of Breed Competition—"The following categories of dogs may be entered and shown in Best of Breed competition. Dogs that are Champions of Record. Dogs which according to their owner's records have completed the requirements for a championship but whose championships are unconfirmed. The entry and showing of dogs whose championships are unconfirmed is limited to a period of 90 days from the date of the show where a dog completed the requirements for a championship according to the owner's records. If, at the end of the 90-day period, the championship of a dog has not been confirmed by the American Kennel Club, no further entries of the dog for Best of Breed competition are to be made until its championship has been confirmed by the AKC." NON-REGULAR CLASSES INVOLVING MULTIPLE DOG ENTRIES Stud Dog Class--for dogs that have sired two dogs or bitches entered in this show. The award will be based on the merits of the get. The owner of the stud dog need not be the owner of the get. As the judge's decision in this class will be based on the merits of more than one dog or bitch, no one of the dogs or bitches making up the entry judged first in the class, will be eligible to compete for Best of Breed by virtue of having won this class. The Stud Dog must appear in the ring with his get and be entered in the Stud Dog Class. Brood Bitch Class--for bitches that have whelped two dogs or bitches entered in this show. The award will be based on the merits of the produce. The owner of the brood bitch need not be the owner of the produce. As the judge's decision in this class will be based on the merit of more than one dog or bitch, no one of the dogs or bitches making up the entry judged first in the class will be eligible to compete for Best of Breed by virtue of having won this class. The Brood Bitch must appear in the ring with her produce and be entered in the Brood Bitch Class. PUPPY SWEEPSTAKES Conditions and Requirements for Entry: All puppies in Sweepstakes must be entered in regular classes. Please indicate sweepstakes and 6-9, 9-12, 12-15, or 15-18 months in the box provided for additional classes. VETERAN SWEEPSTAKES Conditions and Requirements for Entry: Dogs and Bitches 7 years and older are eligible. They do not have to be entered in a regular class. Spayed or Neutered Dogs or Bitches are welcome to be entered in these classes. Please indicate veteran sweepstakes and 7 and under 9 years or 9 years and over in the box provided for additional classes. Division of Money Prizes for Sweepstakes: All entry fees for the Sweepstakes will be divided as follows: 35% of all Sweepstakes entry fees to be retained by the Club for expenses. The remaining 65% will be divided within each class as follows: First Place, 40% of entry fees in each class; Second Place, 30% of entry fees in each class; Third Place, 20% of entry fees in each class; Fourth Place, 10% of entry fees in each class. The Newfoundland Club of America will award a Pewter Medallion to the Select dog and Select Bitch 4
INFORMATION FOR AKC NATIONAL OWNER-HANDLED SERIES Determining Eligibility: • Exhibitors must declare their dog AKC National Owner-Handled Series eligible at the time of the entry using the check box on the entry form. • The handler must be an owner of record according to the AKC’s records as of the date of the show. • Dogs declared eligible will be identified by an asterisk or other representative mark in the steward’s book and the show catalog. • Professional handlers, household members and current assistants to professional handlers may not exhibit. A current assistant is defined as anyone employed by a professional handler on a full-time basis, or assisting a professional handler at the show or any show during the cluster/weekend. • Dogs must be handled by an owner-handler eligible for AKC NOHS thought the breed level competition for the regular show. This includes the class competition and subsequent competition in the breed ring. Additionally, dogs must be handled by an eligible owner-handler for all AKC NOHS competition. • The Owner-Handled Best of Breed will be selected from the eligible dogs that competed in the Best of Breed/Variety competition for the regular show. This includes Winners Dog, Winners Bitch, and the undefeated winner of the non-regular classes. This excludes all dogs defeated during class and winners competition for the regular show. Determining Owner-Handled Best of Breed Breed judging for OH Best of Breed is conducted following Best of Breed judging in the ring. All dogs in BOB competition (including WD & WB) will stay in the ring after the judge makes their placements. The ring steward will ask all professional handlers, household members, and current assistants to a professional handler, and any exhibitor that did not indicate on their entry that they were eligible for NOHS to leave the ring. The judge will then select the Owner-Handled Best of Breed. A dog being “cut” or otherwise “defeated” in the BOB ring remains eligible to compete for OH Best of Breed. AKC Suggested Best Practices for the Well-Being of Dog Sport Participants General Practices 1. Clubs, officials and participants are required to follow state, local and facility guidelines that apply to the area and site where the event is held. 2. Practice social distancing consistent with guidelines in effect at the time of the event. Avoid congregating to the extent possible. 3. Consider wearing masks when in close proximity to others. Clubs should provide masks if desired for officials, judges and volunteers. 4. Consider wearing disposable or washable gloves. 5. Wash hands as frequently as possible. Have disinfecting spray at bathroom facilities for people to spray door handles (or anything else they touch). Consider hiring bathroom attendants to maintain maximum cleanliness. 6. If you utilize portable toilets, please ask for a hand washing station(s) to be delivered as well. 7. Avoid shaking hands, hugging, or other physical contact. 8. Avoid touching dogs that are not your responsibility. 9. Avoid common use pens/pencils – bring your own. 10. Disinfect surfaces in common use areas as often as possible (tables, chairs, doorknobs, etc.) Clubs and facilities may consider not providing chairs. 11. Meals - Avoid or stagger group lunches/dinners if possible. 12. Vendors should follow retail guidelines for the area. 13. Parking – Park with sufficient distance between vehicles if possible. If there is a parking fee, ask exhibitors to bring exact change. 14. Indoor show sites should work with facilities to have as many entrance/exits points open as possible. Hand sanitizer should be available at every entrance to the site and at multiple locations within the site. 15. Parking/unloading staff should wear masks and sanitize their hands following the assistance of each individual. 8
If you will be at the Del Sur Kennel Club (DSKC) for any of the AKC Events in any capacity, you must complete this Self-Declaration and Waiver of Liability PRIOR TO ARRIVAL to gain entry and obtain your entry wrist band that you MUST wear each day and show upon entering the facility. A separate form is required for each individual, including minors. This includes, but is not limited to, exhibitors, owners, handlers, breeders, assistants, superintendents, judges, stewards, vendors, any providers of services and their staff and volunteers. There are no exclusions or exceptions. I attest to the following: Initials I affirm that within the last 14 days, I have not experienced any of the symptoms related to COVID-19 nor have I taken medication to reduce fever during that time. Common symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea and/or loss of sense of smell or taste. These symptoms do not include those attributed to another health condition that you normally experience. Initials I affirm that within the last 14 days, I have not tested positive for COVID-19. Initials I affirm that I have read the DSKC face mask rules and understand that I will be required to properly wear a mask at all times while on the event grounds. The following plan is designated at this time for the Del Sur Kennel Club, Inc. (DSKC) All Breed Dog Shows, Obedience and Rally Trials and Participating Breed Club Specialty Shows. This plan is subject to change as circumstances may dictate. 1. PLEASE STAY HOME. If you are ill, feel unwell, are coughing, sneezing or running a temperature. 2. EXPOSURE TO COVID-19: If you have recently been in the presence of a person who has either tested positive for Covid-19 or has the symptoms (coughing/sneezing/temperature) please stay home. 3. MASKS: Masks shall be worn at all times while in attendance at these events and shall include all areas of the grounds, including the parking lots – NO EXCEPTIONS. No mesh style masks or neck gaiters are allowed. Face shields may NOT be worn in place of a mask, but may be worn in addition to a mask. Any person found to be in violation of this requirement may be asked to leave the grounds and/or face disciplinary action. 4. SIGNED WAIVERS: All persons entering the Bates Nut Farm grounds must provide a completed and signed waiver form as provided in the premium list. Please complete and sign this form PRIOR to arriving at Bates. If you arrive without this completed form, you will be asked to leave the parking lot line and will not be allowed to enter until you have completed the waiver. DSKC shall not be held responsible if you miss your scheduled judging time and NO REFUND of fees will be made. Forms MAY NOT BE available at the show site. 5. SET-UPS AND UNLOADING: a. Unloading zone will open at 6:15 am. b. All vehicles are to be removed to the parking lot as soon as they are unloaded. c. Personal tents and generators will only be allowed in designated areas. No individual setups will be allowed within the ring area. d. Handheld hair dryers only. NO force air dryers will be allowed anywhere on the show site, including parking lots. e. No exercise pens under Club supplied tents. f. No exercise pens or set-ups within 20 feet of the rings or in the Fire Lanes. g. No exercise pens or set-ups in any Day of Show Parking lot. h. All dogs on grooming loops must be attended at all times. i. No vehicles or vehicle traffic will be allowed on the show grounds for loading or unloading. 6. RINGS: To minimize the number of persons near the rings at any one time, be aware of, and adhere to your scheduled judging time. Do not arrive at your designated location more than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time and exit the area immediately upon completion of your participation. Do not congregate at, or block, ring entrances and exits. 7. STAGING AREA: A designated staging area will be provided for Obedience and Rally. Please remain in this area and maintain social distancing until your number is called to the ring. 8. ARM BANDS: Please know your Armband Number when you arrive at the table. Arrange to pick up all armbands at the same time and, if possible, arrange for one individual to collect the armbands for various individuals. Maintain social distancing while waiting for your armbands. Catalogs at these tables will not be available for your use, but only the use of the individuals assigned to issue the armbands. If you need to label the armbands for particular dogs, please bring your own pen as pens will not be available for use. 9. RINGSIDE CHAIRS: DSKC will not provide for any seating around the rings. Exhibitors may bring their own chairs but must maintain social distancing between each other and from the rings. Household units may sit together. No group gatherings or congregating in the tents or ringside. No chairs may be left under tents or at ringside. 10. RING PROCEDURES: Judges, stewards and exhibitors are required to wear a mask at all times. Failure of exhibitors to adhere to this policy could cause them to be excused from the ring and may result in disciplinary action. 11. RING TENTS: The DSKC tents at ringside are meant for the use of the breed scheduled for the ring during that time. Do not arrive at your assigned ring any earlier than 15 minutes prior to your assigned time. In order to maintain social distancing, tent space should be yielded to the breed currently in the ring. Please vacate the DSKC ring tents as you complete showing in your designated class, unless you will be returning to the ring for “winners” or “breed”. Crates are discouraged under 10
these tents but if you do bring a crate for multiple dogs, they must be removed when you complete showing in your class. 12. ENTRY TO THE RINGS: Exhibitors will line up outside the ring maintaining social distancing and will be called into the ring as each judge deems appropriate. The judge will direct you as to how to prepare your dog for exam. Follow the judge’s directions. Judges will have hand sanitizer and/or gloves available between examinations. When gaiting with other exhibitors, maintain a distance between exhibits. After placements are made, leave the ring and if you are not going forward in the judging of that breed, please leave the ring and tented area. There will be a separate entrance and exit for each ring, please use these appropriately. The judge or steward will direct those who are going forward as to where they are to wait for winners or BOB judging. 13. GROOMING: Depending on State and CDC recommendations at the time of the Show, there may be limitations on the use of blow dryers. Grooming space may be limited as the need for social distancing and may require spacing between spots. 14. The Show Site will be available to exhibitors at 2:00PM, Wednesday. Dogs must be removed from the show site immediately following Best in Show judging on Sunday. 15. No practicing allowed in the rings at any time. 16. No dogs are to be left overnight. 17. Each exhibitor is responsible for cleaning up after their own dog(s). If your dog soils in the show ring, the ring steward will hold your dog while YOU do the clean-up. ADDITIONAL RULES 1. Entries must reach the Superintendent, Jack Bradshaw, 320 Maple Ave. Torrance CA,90503 by Noon, Wednesday, April 14, 2021 PT. Fees should accompany entries. This club and/or its superintendent assume no responsibility for wrong or incomplete information given on the entry blank by the owner or agent of the owner. This club and its superintendents assume no responsibility for the owner or owner's agents entering a dog in a class in which the dog is not eligible to compete, or for entering the same dog twice. 2. Returned Checks do not constitute a valid entry fee. The Superintendent will add a collection fee to the amount of each returned check and declined credit card. Subsequent returned checks for the same exhibitors may result in their being put on a CASH ONLY basis. The returned check or declined credit card MUST BE MADE GOOD by cash or money order BEFORE the dog will be allowed in the ring. 3. Exhibitors' Identification tickets and judging programs will be mailed to the address given on the entry blank. If not received within a reasonable time prior to the show, notify the superintendent. Tickets returned by the Post Office marked 'undeliverable' will be held at the Superintendent's Office. PLEASE BRING YOUR IDENTIFICATION TICKETS TO THE SHOW. 4. During the hours of judging owners are to be on call, and have their dogs ready to bring into the judging ring promptly, In order that the judging will not be delayed. Dogs need only be present for their judging. Dogs not needed for further judging may be excused. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to have his dog ready to be shown and at the entrance of the judging ring when the steward calls for the class. Owners of dogs or the handlers of the dogs alone are responsible for the presence of their dogs in the judging rings. This means it is not the responsibility of the ring steward, nor of any agent of the show-giving club to locate any dog, its owner or handler, when the dog's presence is needed in a judging ring. It should be understood by every exhibitor and handler that waiting for dogs to be brought into the ring is a courtesy extended to the owner or handler of the dog. There is no rule of this club nor of The American Kennel Club that requires a judge to wait for an owner or handler to bring his dog into the ring. Show hours 7 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. 5. Trophies and prizes will be awarded in the judging ring before the completion of the judging of the breed and the superintendent's office advised at once, in the event of any discrepancy. All trophies must be claimed the day of the show. None will be mailed. 6. Exhibitors are admonished to make themselves familiar with the agreement of the American Kennel Club, referred to on the reverse side of the entry blanks that accompany this premium list. Rulebooks are available online at www.akc.org. 7. The club, its superintendents or their employees will not be responsible for the loss of or damage to any dog exhibited, whether the result of accident or other causes and in addition assumes no responsibility for any loss, damage or injury sustained by an exhibitor or handler. It is distinctly understood that every dog at this show is in the care and custody and control of his owner or handler during the entire time the dog is on the show premises. 8. No grooming tables, pens or exhibitors setups will be allowed in the aisles and all grooming must be done away from the judging ring in areas specified by the club. 9. Entry fees shall NOT be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, sick, lame, excused by veterinarian or judge, barred from competition by action of the Bench Show Committee, or because the dog is ineligible to compete due to being entered incorrectly. There is no refund of entry fee for duplicate entry. There will be a $2.00 fee charged for cancellation of entry prior to closing of entries. 10. There is no provision offered for un-entered dogs at this show. 11. Declination of Entries. The Newfoundland Club of America may decline any entries for cause and may refuse to receive or may remove any dog on account of disease, viciousness or other causes, and no one shall have any claim or recourse against the Kennel Club or any official thereof. 12. If, because of riots, civil disturbances or other acts beyond the control of the management, it is impossible to open or complete the show, no refund of entry will be made. 13. Do not leave any dogs in closed vehicles. 14. A Recording Fee of 50 cents and an Event Services Fee of $3.00 will be required at any Licensed or Member Club Show, Obedience Trial or Tracking Test. These fees are to be collected by the Show-giving Club and paid to the American Kennel Club. (American Kennel Club Rule, Chapter 10, Section 2.) 15. Dogs which according to their owners' records have completed the requirements for a championship after the closing of entries for the show but whose championships are unconfirmed, may be transferred from one of the regular classes to the Best of Breed or Variety Competition, provided this transfer is made by the Superintendent at least one half hour prior to the start of the earliest Conformation judging at the Show. 16. No setups/x-pens in Day of Show Parking lot. 17. Dogs which according to their owners’ records have earned an obedience title after the closing of entries for the show may be moved up to the next class, provided this transfer is made in writing and presented to the superintendent at least 30 minutes prior to the start of each trial. 18. Day of Show Parking – Reduced Rate for Show & Go Format – Opens 6 am Single Day Parking $5.00; Thursday, 4 Day Pass $20.00; Friday, 3 Day Pass $15.00; Saturday and Sunday, $5.00, per day.
