Program Directors Roles of our Program Directors o Chairs the departmental committee for graduate admissions. o Serves as the primary contact/liaison with school of graduate studies. o Reviews the academic progress of graduate students. o Reviews nominations for scholarships and awards. myProgress myProgress is a tool that tracks graduate students’ progress in their studies, and includes a comprehensive list of the following: o All student records from Minerva. o A list of student milestones to be completed (degree requirements), and their due dates (e.g. thesis committee meetings and course work). o The composition of the students’ thesis committee members, including supervisors, academic advisors and other members, as well as comprehensive oral examination members for Ph.D. students. This tool is useful for you, your supervisor and academic advisor as it monitors the degree requirements completion and serves as a degree audit tool. Fast Fast Tracking: promotion to the PhD Program from the MSc Program Tracking o Must have completed a minimum of 2 full-time terms in the MSc program (excluding the summer term) and up to a maximum of 4 full-time terms o Must have completed or is in the process of completing the 9 course credits required (cGPA ≥ 3.5 to date) o Must inform the committee of intention to fast-track to the Ph.D. program IN ADVANCE of first thesis committee (i.e. at the time when the notice of the meeting is sent to all committee members), and obtained a favourable assessment at the committee meeting For full guidelines on fast-tracking: https://www.mcgill.ca/expmed/graduate-studies/fast-tracking
Internal Gerald B. Price and Graduate Research Enhancement and Travel (GREAT) Awards o There are 3 travel award competitions yearly: ▪ February 28th, for conferences between the upcoming May 1st and August 31st Travel Awards ▪ June 30th, for conferences between the upcoming September 1st and December 31st ▪ October 31st, for conferences between the upcoming January 1st and April 30th o Award recipients are determined by way of a random draw among all eligible applicants. Please note that due to the pandemic, the university is currently not authorizing any university-related travel (i.e. conferences), but we can reimburse fees for participation in remote conferences. McGill MedStar Award for Trainees Productivity Awards o Recognizes the excellence of research done at the Faculty of Medicine of McGill University. The award is based on a research article recently published (less than eight months) as first author by a trainee (B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D., PDF, Resident) in the Faculty of Medicine of McGill University or one of its affiliated hospitals or research institutes. $500 per award, adjudicated in three periods each year (Jan.-Apr.; May-Aug.; Sept.-Dec.)
