COVID 19 Regulations Nanton Marlins Swim Club 2021 – Return to Swimming

Disclaimer
The Nanton Marlins Swim Club (NMSC) has prepared this document based on the latest information
available to date from Swim Canada, Swim Alberta, the Government of Alberta and Alberta Health Services
(AHS) and the Town of Nanton Facility Requirements. The document will be updated periodically as the
situation around the COVID-19 pandemic evolves and more information becomes available.

This document is meant to provide information and guidance as to best practices based on current
information available as per the publication date. It also outlines requirements that the NMSC must adhere
to in order to have events and activities sanctioned by Swim Alberta. NMSC is responsible for assessing
the risks in their particular environment and establishing the appropriate safety procedures to minimize
those risks, while following the advice and instructions of public health, government authorities, including
facilities.

It is an individual’s responsibility for assessing his or her personal risks in consultation with medical
professionals and for the outcome of his or her decisions and actions. Before returning to sport, each
athlete will be required to answer questions about their personal health risks.

Commitment to Safety
NMSC, the Alberta Summer Swimming Association and Swim Alberta, appreciates that the swimming
community is anxious to return to some of our normal routines and activities that were both an important
and large part of our daily lives prior to COVID-19. NMSC looks forward to supporting our membership in
many of the routines and activities that involve the sport of swimming, as we transition to opportunities to
train in the water.

The priority of NMSC has always been and will always be the safety of our membership, specifically our
athletes, as well as our coaches, volunteers, staff and families involved in the sport. It will remain vital that
a continued effort to “return to sport” will need to be done in the safest way possible and to continue to
follow all guidelines and restrictions that have been put in place through Swim Alberta, Alberta Health, the
provincial government and our local municipality.

Returning to sport will require your patience and support. By working together, the swimming community
can ensure the safety of our athletes and entire membership as we return to the sport of swimming, a sport
that ignites the passion in all of us. NMSC will continue to monitor the situation very closely and will update
this document accordingly. NMSC will provide the most current version of “Return to swimming” through
email.

Adherence to Guidelines and Requirements
The return to swimming will be a practice only 2021 season. NMSC will follow the lead of Alberta Health
Services (AHS) as it relates to permitted activities both outdoors that clubs can engage in for dryland
training, in pools where water training can resume, and eventually competitions for the 2021 season.
Please note there will be no competitions held in the 2021 summer swim season at this time. All
Athletes/Parents need to ensure that they fully understand any additional local municipal regulations that
may be in place. NMSC will collaborate closely with the Tom Hornecker Recreation Centre and the Town of
Nanton to understand any different restrictions and limitations. NMSC will not be developing any guidelines
or protocols that are independent or misaligned with Swim Alberta or AHS. Any additional restrictions or
requirements of a club’s local facility/municipality should align with Swim Alberta, and AHS.

       • NMSC will ensure that all registered coaches, athletes, officials, and parents understand and agree
to follow all regulations as set out by AHS, the local municipality/facility and Swim Alberta.

NMSC will ensure all activities comply with these basic safety requirements in addition to any additional

permitted on the pool deck, unless they are a swimmer or coach.

one-on-one interaction and should always be done in a group setting.
     • If Inclement weather occurs 20 minutes before practice, practice will be canceled for that practice. If
the inclement weather occurs during our practice time and we are told we are to leave the pool this will
be done in a quick and safe manner. We will allow the swimmers ages 5-9 to exit in a staggered
fashion first then all other swimmers in a staggered fashion and practice will be canceled.
   • Dryland training will occur at the park across the street from the pool, and only done if the weather
permits (see above for distancing rules for dryland training). Parents/guardians should monitor
weather and anticipate if they should come to pick up their swimmer should inclement weather
         occur.
