Welcome to Museums in Norway We are pleased to present the fourth edition of Museums in Norway for 2021/2022. The Product Manual presents 200 museums and locations represented by 20 cultural institutions spread all over the country. They offer a wide range of collections and exhibitions that portray an aspect of Norway’s unique geography, history, art, architecture, music, cuisine and economy. Regardless whether the focus is costal experience or heritage, mountain walks or hiking, art or music, suitable for adults or children, the museums in Norway offer an exciting range of events held throughout the year that celebrate Norwegian folklore, music and dance; the achievements of our Viking forefathers; the adventures of our explorers, or the triumphs of modern engineering. Our museums offer family-friendly activities, guided tours, and stage special events throughoutthe year that enable our guests, (be they travelling as groups or individuals), to meet local residents and try local cuisine. Many museums, as indicated in the Product Manual, can also offer meeting facilities and arrange customised tour-experiences. So please, never hesitate to ask! With so many locations we have chosen to present some key information about each museum while referring to their webpages for further details and updated information on prices and opening hours etc. This version is based on information compiled in March 2021 and subject to change. The main building, designed by Christian Heinrich Grosch was completed in 1830. It was adapted and extended by Sverre Fehn (1924–2009), who was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1997. Maihaugen Address Maihaugen is one of Norways largest outdoor museums with more than 200 buildings from Maihaugen and The Norwegian the 12th century until today. The museum shows life in different time periods. You w ill get Olympic Museum: Maihaugvegen 1, a good insight into Norwegian culture, history and heritage. The museum also tells the 2609 Lillehammer, Norway story of the 1900’s and shows houses from each decade of this century. Several exhibitions both indoor and outdoor. Halden historical collections offers you Fredrikshald Theater from 1838 and it is the only remaining baroque theatre in Norway still in use and nearby you will find Rød Manor which has a 300 year long family history to tell as well as a large formal and english landscaped garden. Vest-Agder Museum Address Vest-Agder Museum is the biggest union of cultural heritage museums in the county Odderøyveien 21, 4610 Kristiansand of Agder in South Norway. The museum consists of eleven tourist destinations; outdoor museums, museums railway, museum factory, a war sailing museum, mansion, artists Web home and much more. It is an 8 km long narrow gauge heritage railway located in Vennesla, about 20 km north of Kristiansand. The line was opened in 1896. Just two years after its closure in 1962 it was re-opened as Norway’s first heritage railway. Since then, visitors have been able to enjoy the expe- rience of a living museum, with over 100 year-old steam locomotives and elegant wooden carriages in beautiful suroundings. Setesdalsbanen have season from June to September. Experience the history of Kristiansand and Setesdal at the open air museum in Kristiansand and get a feel for life in days gone by way back in 1580. It is one of the worlds largest cannon installed on land. The barrel itself is 19.75 meters in length and weighs 110 tonnes. The cannons had a range of as much as 55 km.
