Invocation+ Coming Clean Call to Confession · Psalm 123:1–2; 2 Corinthians 5:7 Confession of Sin Father, too often our eyes are on the moment, focused on the trivial, the eeting, the mundane. Our eyes are on the joys of this present age, the desires of our hearts—our will, our plans, our glory. Or, our eyes are on the obstacles—the scary, the intimidating, the humiliating. The joys and sorrows, strengths and weaknesses of this age ll our view, and we can’t see you...because we do not lift up our eyes. Father, thank you for Jesus, who kept his eyes on you, his Father. Thank you that he was neither enticed nor intimidated by the powers and pleasures of this age, but for the joy set before him endured the cross. Thank you that he was faithful where we have been unfaithful, he was condemned that we might be forgiven, and he died that we might have life. Forgive us for Jesus’ sake. Renew us by his Spirit. Give us eyes of faith to see the unseen, to walk by faith, and to keep our focus on you, your promises, your grace. Transform us into your image as we see Christ in the Scriptures by the power of your Spirit. Let us become what we behold that others might behold Christ in us. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen. Made New Assurance of Grace · 2 Corinthians 4:17–18 Hymn No. 642 · Be Thou My Vision Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that thou art— Thou my best thought, by day or by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light. Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word; I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I thy true son; thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one. Be thou my battle shield, sword for my ght; be thou my dignity, thou my delight, Thou my soul’s shelter, thou my high tow’r; raise thou me heav’n-ward, O Pow’r of my pow’r. Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise, thou mine inheritance, now and always: Thou and thou only, rst in my heart, High King of Heaven, my treasure thou art. High King of heaven, my victory won, may I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heav’n’s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all. Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit into ev’ry troubled breast; Let us all in thee inherit, let us nd the promised rest: Take away the love of sinning; Alpha and Omega be; End of faith, as its Beginning, set our hearts at liberty. Come, Almighty to deliver, let us all thy life receive; Suddenly return, and never, nevermore thy temples leave. Thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above, Pray, and praise thee, without ceasing, glory in thy perfect love. Finish, then, thy new creation; pure and spotless let us be: Let us see thy great salvation perfectly restored in thee; Changed from glory into glory, till in heav’n we take our place, Till we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise. Hymn+ The Sands of Time Are Sinking The sands of time are sinking, the dawn of heaven breaks; The summer morn I’ve sighed for—the fair, sweet morn awakes: Dark, dark had been the midnight, but dayspring is at hand, And glory, glory dwelleth in Emmanuel’s land. The king there in His beauty, without a veil is seen. It were a well-spent journey, though sev’n deaths lay between. The Lamb with His fair army, doth on Mount Zion stand, And glory, glory dwelleth in Emmanuel’s land. O Christ, He is the fountain, the deep, sweet well of love! The streams on earth I’ve tasted, more deep I’ll drink above. There to an ocean fullness His mercy doth expand, And glory, glory dwelleth in Emmanuel’s land. The bride eyes not her garment, but her dear Bridegroom’s face; I will not gaze at glory but on my King of grace. Not at the crown He giveth but on His pierced hand; The Lamb is all the glory of Emmanuel’s land. O I am my Beloved’s and my Beloved is mine! He brings a poor vile sinner into His house of wine. I stand upon His merit—I know no other stand, Not e’en where glory dwelleth in Emmanuel’s land. Text: Anne Cousin (based on Samuel Rutherford’s letters) · Music: Traditional arr.
