2019–2020 BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Providence Day School’s Board of Trustees serve as stewards of the school who hold “in trust” its mission and
reputation. As such, Trustees accept the obligation to not only preserve but also to advance the institution.
Their work begins with the fiduciary expectations of duty (due diligence on financials), care (executing
decisions by prudent standards), and obedience (to laws and bylaws). Beyond these duties, Trustees focus on
policies and strategies that are future-focused, leaving daily operations to the Head of School, whom they select.
The Board utilizes several committees to study and assess in depth the needs, activities, and performance of the
school and to make recommendations when planning, developing, and establishing policy.

2019–2020 BOARD OF ADVISORS
Initiated in 1997, the Providence Day School Board of Advisors serves as a link between the PD community and
the PD administration. The Board of Advisors comprises current parents, alumni parents, and alumni. Members
are active supporters of PD through their gifts of time, talent, and resources. With a focus on strategic issues, the
Board of Advisors assists the school in identifying new opportunities for growth and improvement. The Board of
Advisors also provides PD with a clear understanding of the external environment in which the school operates,
and helps to identify key stakeholder and potential partners to help PD achieve its strategic goals.

Dear Providence Day supporters:
I write to you regarding a year like no other in the history of Providence Day or the world itself. In
the face of previously unimaginable trials, our faculty, staff, students, and community have pulled
together as never before.
Despite this disruption and uncertainty, I’m pleased to report that our community raised more
than $2.8 million in support of our annual giving, capital and endowment programs. Our
decision to suspend plans for our Giving Day and additional solicitations played a major role in our Annual Fund coming shy
of our goal of $1,425,000. However, we continued our tradition of 100% faculty and staff participation, and with our alumni
participation coming in above the national average at 10.3 percent, we finished the fiscal year strong.
One of the proudest moments in my career occurred as we knew Charlotte families were in need, and our Providence Day
community came together to support Loaves & Fishes with overwhelming support:
• PD parents, alumni parents, alumni, grandparents, faculty, and staff raised over $150,000 during our three-day campaign.
• Boxes of food were stacked floor to ceiling, capable of feeding 4,500 families.
We have also witnessed our community living out our mission of social responsibility by providing 3-D printed face shields and
other support to our frontline professionals, as well as continuing our volunteer and financial support of our Children’s Defense
Fund Freedom School program over the summer.
In another positive milestone for the year, our endowment surpassed $15.8 million, allowing us to provide critical resources to
support teaching and learning at Providence Day. All efforts combined, our overall parent participation in giving closed the year
at 73 percent which is also above the national average. Heading into a new school year with unprecedented investment in our
facilities, safety, and health, our position is strong.
And speaking of milestones, we are experiencing another with the 50th anniversary this year. We have engaged in community-
wide reflection on the history of our school, as well as the journey we have undergone to become a leader in academic excellence.
