Connections March 2021 Ice Rink a Reality What an amazing addition to our community!! The timing couldn’t have been better, and we are very glad to have brought this facility for young and old to enjoy. The Board partnered with our municipal leaders to make this happen and we hope that it will become a fixture in eQ Park for years to come. Of course, building it was one thing but it is thanks to the many volunteers who brave the cold every day and night, putting in a tremendous amount of time and effort to ensure that the rink is in perfect condition for everyone to enjoy. There is nothing more Canadian than skating and playing hockey, and our rink provides the perfect reason to get some fresh air and enjoy the beautiful winter that we have been having. As the photos attest, our entire team of dedicated volunteers has already made our ice surface one of the best around. The Board thanks you for stepping up to blow off the snow after every storm, scrape and flood the ice, maintain an awe- some network of paths to access the area, and even clean on and around the benches! When you meet one of the volunteers, please be sure to thank them. We also extend our appreciation to the Parks and Recreation department of our Municipality led by Mark Guy and Kevin Henry, Councillor Doreen O'Sullivan and Mayor, Nancy Peckford. Their partnership in giving the go-ahead to this project, putting up the infrastructure to support it, and overseeing the area throughout the season has been in- valuable to its success and to our continuing enjoyment. Well done all! “Our volunteers are out Who said winter was not fun... Connections March 2021 Billiards for Everyone Since the majority of Resident Club activities have been on hold due to the pandemic, many new faces have moved into our great community and have yet to enjoy our Resident Club facility. As a Resident Club member there are many groups to choose from, one being the Equinelle Billiard League, that has grown to more than 50 players of all skills levels before it had to suspend play last March. The league, convened by Ted Livingston and Doug Peace, is looking forward to resuming its activities and welcoming newcomers to its fold when the club reopens. Ted and Doug point out that the empha- sis is on recreational play within a friendly competitive environment. All Ray Diguer (centre) receives his new cue from Ted Livingston players are welcome to join regardless of (right) and Doug Peace (left). Ray was the lucky winner of last ability as teams are reasonably balanced, season’s billiard league cue draw. which pro-vides everyone a chance to win at least a game or two each night. To assist in a smooth transition to league play, all players will be invited to attend a league orientation session that covers basic rules and game concepts. For those who wish to benefit from a little more practice, several sessions of billiard lessons will be held in the weeks prior to league start. While we are many months away from the league starting, prospective players are invited to familiarize themselves with the basic billiard rules by visiting http://www.cdnqsport.com/worldrules.aspx. For those who are interested in watching instructional material on billiards we recommend visiting Dr. Dave Alciator’s Billiard University website at https://billiards.colostate.edu/ along with Tom Rossman’s web-site at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PnXf81Tc84&list=PLD9B8803599EEBC5A&index=1. If you prefer to read about the science behind billiards we highly recommended The Science of Pocket Billiard by Mr. Jack H. Koehler (2016 Version) and The Illustrated Principles of Pool and Billiards by Dr. Dave Alciator. Whether you are an experienced player or a rookie looking to enjoy a night out, give the league a try. One thing is sure, you will meet new neighbors, make new friendships and trade stories with fellow competitors. For more information about the billiard league, feel free to contact: Ted Livingston ctliv@bell.net or Doug Peace DPeace57@gmail.com. www.equinelleresidentclub.com www.equinelleresidentclub.com Page 6
Connections March 2021 Winter Wonderland With more residents staying at home this winter and everyone looking to stay active safely, the groomed trails added this year around our golf course have been a most welcome and very popular addition to our community. On behalf of all skiers, snowshoers and walkers, the Advisory Board expresses its sincere appreciation to the eQuinelle Homes management team for this great initiative. Special thanks to General Manager Rick Milks for spearheading this effort and to golf course superintendent Chris Vollett for braving the cold and ensuring that the paths are properly groomed for all to enjoy. Where else can you walk out your front door, step into nature and savour the serene surroundings provided by our golf course regardless of the season! Please remember the basics rules when using the trails: ‘register’ before using - do not walk over the ski tracks - keep dogs on leash and scoop - do not wander off the groomed trails. PLEASE STAY ON THE PATHS While the grass is frozen it is fragile, even when covered with snow during the winter . Walking or skiing on it will cause permanent damage. www.equinelleresidentclub.com www.equinelleresidentclub.com Page 7
