Merry Christmas 17th December 2020 What a year! “Great schools never work in On the 3rd February this year, whoever would have ever thought we were in for a year isolation to its like 2020 has been! As I have stated numerous times this year, it has been the community.” strangest, most problematic year in my 35 years in Education. Irrespective of what the pandemic threw at us, we have had an amazing year, full of terrific teaching and learning, engagement and fun. From face-to-face teaching and learning to online learning from home, and then back again, this year has presented many challenges for the school and community alike. With the changing world upon us, our focus this year was three fold: - To ensure the learning program delivered was sound, with all students being able to access it - To ensure each and every decision made was in the best interests of the students and based on advice from DoE/Health Department - To ensure the culture, good will and atmosphere of the school would not be lost/altered I believe we did well in achieving all three of these foci, resulting in a positive year being had. I conclude this year with a sense of accomplishment but also with a great deal of frustration as our school, like many others, has not been able to operate as per usual. I look forward, with fingers and everything else crossed, in hope that 2021 will see a further return to our usual Davallia PS ways. Wishing you all a Wishing you all a fabulous festive season and thank you all for your support. ‘Merry Christmas’ from the Staff at John O’Neil Davallia Primary Principal School. Class of 2020 Congratulations to the graduating Class of 2020, who today conclude their primary school education. We know you are well prepared to achieve success at high school and wish you all the very best. Remember, success doesn’t come easy, so you will be required to apply yourself from day one. No doubt today will be a mix of emotions for our Year 6’s. Some will be sad, others excited, some unsure or nervous and others bursting to move on to the next challenge, being high school. As Owen Challen said at the Presentation Assembly, ‘You got this!’ Today is your final day of primary school and you conclude your time as students of Davallia Primary School. At your Graduation I reminded you of these words from that famous author, Dr Seuss. He wrote, “Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.” Thankyou Year 6’s, best wishes and today we all will be smiling with you! Best wishes from the staff, students and school community and congratulations on your graduation from Davallia Primary School. The Staff I have the utmost respect for my staff. Whether a member of the teaching staff, the non-teaching staff or administration, this year they have been absolutely magnificent. In particular, I wish to thank and recognise the staff for their professionalism and dedication to their roles during what was an unprecedented and somewhat crazy period of time. I want to recognise, and I am very proud of, the way our school did not just simply deliver the bare minimum as required by the Department of Education. We delivered above and beyond of what was expected, providing online learning, whist face-to-face teaching and providing work packages to support our kids. They brought the virtual classroom to life through WebEx and staff shared video clips and morning welcome messages through Seesaw and Connect. We undertook ‘virtual’ jump jams with our community, endeavoring to keep the school spirit alive and well and Faction Fridays were still enjoyed at home. The Kiss and Drive Library Book exchange was a sight to behold with all staff being present and the ECE staff donning their tutu’s, dancing to the beats of Mr Leaning’s music. My staff are awesome, I asked a lot of them and without fail, they delivered. I wish each and every one of them a relaxing holiday period. They have certainly earnt it!
