Greetings from the Program Chair It is with great honor and pleasure that I am able to welcome you all to the 36th Annual Meeting of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO), March 12-14, 2021. Perhaps it is fitting or destiny that this year’s theme is “Game Changers”, as certainly the Academy’s timely and prompt pivot to a virtual platform for the online delivery of this program is certainly a Game Changer. The AO Board of Directors should be commended for their focused attention to delivering the best possible experience for all attendees during this continuing global pandemic. Dr. Karateew The exciting theme, highlighting the “Game Changers” within our discipline and allied sciences, leverages this opportunity to focus our perspectives upon those individuals, technologies and clinical procedures which are rapidly shaping the manner in which we practice and manage our patients. Working in close association with the current President and Board of Directors, we have developed a program rich in contemporary and cutting-edge expertise, with an eye on innovation. We are pleased to have AO’s President Dr. Clark Stanford, moderate our Opening Session, which will undoubtedly be an exciting day. We initiate the “Game Changers” theme with our keynote speaker, Dr. Catherine Mohr, President of the Intuitive Foundation, manufacturer of the daVinci Surgical Robot. Her message will focus on how new technology will impact the future delivery of medicine. This opening day program line up is rounded out with presentations from Drs. Pravin Patel, Mitra Sadrameli, Sonia Leziy, Michael Miloro and drawing the session to the end will be Dr. Miguel Stanley who is joining us from Lisbon, Portugal. He will challenge us all to question who is driving the evolution in technology associated with the delivery of implant dentistry? The afternoon will be culminated by the presentation of the 2020 IADR Award to Allan Radaic, PhD for his work on “Prevention of Peri-implantitis Using Nisin and Nisin- producer Probiotic – An In Vitro Study on Titanium Discs.” Current online platforms for the delivery of conferences have also evolved quickly in these recent months to our new current global reality. We are pleased to have technology available to us, which allows for our corporate partners to feature their products in a virtual Corporate Forum. These forums will be available before and during the conference so that participants can peruse and make product inquiries of the vendors and their respective representatives. All of this from the comfort of your own home or office. Session themes were created so that the participants can enjoy a wide variety of programming options in addition to the delivery of topical and creative presentations. These include thematic panels in Esthetics; Complications; Surgical Track: Thinking Outside of the Box; Prosthetic Track: Technology Disruptors; Surgical Complications and Risk Management. In the Closing Symposium, we have challenged ourselves to have a panel discussion, debating The Future of Implant Practice Models. The AO continues to provide short topical sessions including the ever-popular Coffee and Controversies, the Young Clinicians’ Session, TEAM Program and the Laboratory Technician Program. The President of the Academy, Dr. Clark Stanford, the Board of Directors and myself, hope that all of the attendees will actively participate and enjoy this year’s program. We have invested much time and energy in developing a robust virtual conference from which many timely lessons can follow our participants to their practice on Monday morning. Looking forward to seeing you all on this exciting online platform. Best regards, E. Dwayne Karateew, DDS Program Chair 2021 2
