On April 1, the names of delinquent members are removed from the roster. Reinstatement is possible through December of the current year. Please refer to your Constitution for this provision. For those who seek membership during the year, dues are pro-rated on a monthly basis. The initiation fee for new members is $5.00. Club meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 8:00 p.m. at College Park Clubhouse, 808 Stevely Ave., Long Beach. President’s Message Happy Valentines Day Hi Everyone, Well, here we go, another year! I am happy to tell you that I am here for another year. I want to thank the 2018 Board for their help and support last year. Also want to thank them in advance for 2019. As I stated in last months President's Message, we have a lot going on in 2019. By the time you get this we will have had our 2019 Installation Banquet. I am sure it was a lot of fun! This month is a quiet month, but is all starts up next month with Time Bandits on March 16th. And our first race of the year will be held on March 23 & 24 at Willow Springs with VARA. When it comes to holiday confectionery purchases, Valentine’s Day is placed in fourth spot after Halloween, Easter and Christmas. 2. In 2014, the National Confectioners Association (NCA) reported that more than 40 million heart-shaped chocolate boxes were sold for Valentines. 3. Caramel-flavored chocolates are the most popular in a Valentine’s Day chocolate box, according to a survey conducted by the NCA. Chocolate-covered nuts were a close second. 4. According to the same survey, approximately 83 percent of Americans share their candies with their friends and family on Valentine’s Day. 5. Sixty-nine percent of Americans prefer chocolate to flowers on Valentine’s Day. 6. The legendary conversation hearts, Sweethearts, were first made by the New England Confectionery Company (NECCO) in the year 1866. 7. Board of Governors Meeting Minutes January 3rd, 2019 President Sandi Sherwood called the meeting of the Long Beach MG Club Board of Governors to order at 8:00 p.m. Members Present: Morris Berens, Jim Elsten, Juanita Fast, Richard Sherwood, Sandi Sherwood, Ken Thomas, Amy Tulk, and Jim Tulk Guests: Marie Thomas, Greg Fast Minutes: A motion to accept the December 2018 minutes as published on the website was made by Jim Elsten and seconded by Richard Sherwood. Approved by all, none opposed, no abstentions. Treasurer’s Report: Sandi Sherwood stated that the bills presented for payment were for two months of Spokesman postage and website security. Jim Elsten made a motion that the bills be paid, and Juanita Fast seconded the motion. Approved by all, none opposed, no abstentions. Membership: Membership Chairman Jim Tulk stated that he had received only two membership renewals. Sandi explained that she had picked up the mail from the post office and had given the checks to Marilyn. A short discussion revealed that there were four of these that had gone directly to Marilyn. Therefore, there were six renewals. Jim noted that only one had come with the renewal form. Social: Social Chairman Juanita Fast explained that very few people had paid to attend the banquet. Events: Events chairman Ken Thomas led the discussion of the events. Time Bandits – March 16, 2019 – There will be an ad in the Spokesman. Museum Run – May 18, 2019 – Rallyemaster Jim Elsten stated that the date is flexible. Concours: Concours Chairman Ken Thomas reported that ‘Save The Date’ cards were being mailed. Points: Points Chairman Amy Tulk reported that the final good guy and competition points will be sent for publishing in the February Spokesman, and that the points spreadsheets will be sent to Juanita for audit. Flagging: Flag Marshall Jim Tulk reported that VARA is adding a Friday to the first club race in March. Jim Elsten added that he had not received a response back from our letter, and that he would e-mail Jeanette. Scoring: No report. Raffle: Raffle Chairman Ken Thomas stated that there will be interesting things at the raffle. Spokesman: Editor Sandi Sherwood reported that the January Spokesman had been mailed. 4
January BoG Meeting Minutes Continued: Website: Webmaster Sandi Sherwood reported that the website has been updated. Merchandise: No report. LBGP: Sandi Sherwood reported that envelopes had been stuffed with invitations. Richard Sherwood remarked that he had seen a flyer with a logo that looks similar to what has been used in the past. Old Business: None New Business: Chairmen were canvassed and all acknowledged that they would keep their Chairmanships. Announcements: None Executive Session: The meeting went to Executive Session for the electing of officers, and the guests were asked to leave. Meeting Adjourned: Jim Elsten made a motion that the meeting be adjourned, which was seconded by Morris Berens and approved by all. Worldwide, over 50 million roses are given for Valentine's Day each year. 3. About 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged each year. 4. Approximately 27 percent of those who buy flowers on Valentine's Day are women. Only 73% are men. 5. The origin of Valentine’s Day is traced back to the ancient Roman celebration of Lupercalia which was held on February 15. The oldest known Valentine’s Day card is on display at the British Museum in London. It’s dates back to the 1400’s. 29. General Membership Meeting Minutes January 10th, 2019 President Sandi Sherwood brought the 828th consecutive monthly meeting of the Long Beach MG Club to order at 8:00 p.m. Board Members Present: Morris Berens, Jim Elsten, Marilyn Gettys, Jim Tulk, Richard Sherwood, Juanita Fast, and Ken Thomas. Guests: Greeter Lois Gettys announced that there were no guests. Minutes: Phil Glumm made a motion that the December 2018 minutes be accepted as published in the January 2019 issue of the Spokesman. The motion was seconded by Garth Reid. All in favor, none opposed. Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Marilyn Gettys reported the bank balances as of the beginning of the month. Committee Reports: Membership: Membership Chairman Jim Tulk urged all present to renew their memberships if they haven’t already. Social: Social Chairman Juanita Fast reminded everyone that the Annual Banquet is on January 26th. She urged everyone who is planning to attend to let her know right away. She needs to supply a head count to the facility this weekend. Events: Ken Thomas, Events Chairman, reported on the following: Time Bandits – March 16, 2019. Rallymaster Phil Glumm said that all is looking good, and that it would start at its usual location. Grand Prix of Long Beach – April 12-14, 2019. Concours: June 2, 2019. Ken reported that he had sent out “save the date” reminder postcards to all of the judges. Featured marques are ‘60s-‘70s Ponycars, Datsun Z-cars, and BMW motorcycles. Mervyn Radley noted that he had also sent out postcards to judges for the Hot Rod show. Points: Sandi Sherwood reported that she and Juanita had received the year-end points totals from Points Chairman Amy Tulk for review and publishing in the February Spokesman. 14
January GM Meeting Minutes Continued: Flagging: Flag Marshal Jim Tulk reported that next club flagging event is toward the end of March. Raffle: Ken Thomas described the items on the raffle table: 1. Package of assorted Bailey’s Irish Cream Grand Prize: LED Vanity Mirror Spokesman: Spokesman Editor Sandi Sherwood reported that the January issue is online and has been mailed. Website: Web Master Sandi Sherwood reported that it is working fine, everyone should check it out. Merchandise: Marilyn Gettys reported that the list of available merchandise is in the Spokesman, and that Karen Lewis will do any embroidery needed. Long Beach Grand Prix: Sandy reported that the invitations have been mailed to all workers, and responses started rolling into the website almost immediately. A couple of glitches were cleaned up, and the new Race Management website is working better than ever. Rumor has it that the Grand Prix will be announcing the new sponsor next week. Old Business: None. New Business: None Announcements: Jim Elsten announced that Bonnie had fallen and dislocated her shoulder. An X-ray showed that it popped back into place. She is recovering. 15

Voting – Ballots were distributed for everyone present to vote for Clean Car of the Year, and Event of the Year for 2018. Juanita collected the completed ballots. Adjournment: Jim Elsten made a motion that the meeting be adjourned, which was seconded by Morris Berens, and approved by all. The meeting was adjourned at 8:17 p.m. Refreshments and Raffle: Marie Thomas served nuts, cookies, M&Ms, and a variety of soft drinks.
