I year old son Ryan, we have a loud, crazy household of better start planning… boys who keep me on my toes. And my mom Marilyn emigrated to Australia in 2015! That meant the end of Sullivan, Ryan, and Harrison the heartbreaking goodbyes at airports that we had en- dured for 14 years. I am heavily involved in the ice hockey community in Australia (I say “ice” because if you say hockey here it means field hockey). I was terribly homesick when I moved to Australia and the ice rink felt like home. We have about 18 rinks in Australia, and about 3000 total participants. Both my kids have played, and I played until last year when I was hurt in a mixed league requir- ing surgery on my arm. I still referee and coach, and have been the Commissioner of Ice Hockey Australia’s women’s and men’s National Leagues, the AWIHL and AIHL. Being involved in hockey in Australia has allowed me to travel to places for tournaments and conferences such as Russia, Finland, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, Japan, and New Zealand. It has also meant I come back to North America more regularly than I normally would. And, no surprise, it led me to meet Rob at the Newcastle ice rink! With the boys growing up, playing less sport, and driving themselves around, my participation in hockey Dawn and Rob coaching has waned a bit. The little bit of free time that I have is spent on the two racehorses that I own, and Rob and I enjoy following their training and watching them race. I can honestly say that while there have been tough times over the past 25 years, I am very satisfied with where life has taken me. From the class brat, always in trouble, to CEO…If I could pass any advice on to future graduates of Thorsby High School it would be the follow- ing: - Don’t give up – be the last man standing if you have to – work harder than any body and good things will come - Friends and family will come and go and change over the years – and that’s ok - Travel is so important – Thorsby is a wonderful place to grow up but there is so much to see; hop off Highway 39 and see where life takes you - Life is going to be hard, in fact it might be unbear- able at times – but always remember “this too shall pass” – you can’t see it now, but things will be great again Very tall boys – and I am wearing killer heels!
