Office of the Mayor Summer has arrived in the Fort Town! And so has the third annual edition of our Summer Recreation Guide, detailing all of the warm-weather happenings in Prescott. Being able to finally swap sweaters for shorts lets us take full advantage of the sunny shores of the St. Lawrence River with a schedule of events that includes something for everyone. Centennial Park will again be the best way to beat the heat, thanks to the beach at Kelly’s Bay and the adjacent Community Pool (opening on June 1st). Take in the Community Pool Party on June 28th and watch for work to begin at Centennial Park this summer on our new Splash Pad, which will turn our summer hub into Prescott’s very own take on a water park when it opens in Summer 2020. Another riverside treat this summer is arriving on June 25th, when the famous Bluenose II docks at Prescott for the night. Be sure to take in this Canadian treasure. Our internationally acclaimed St. Lawrence Shakespeare Festival hits the boards at the Kinsmen Amphitheatre in the Prescott Marina for shows between July 13th and August 17th. This summer’s plays are The Winter’s Tale and Cyrano de Bergerac. The amphitheatre is also home to another outstanding season of the Summer Concert Series, running Sunday evenings in July and August. Shows run the gamut from country to rock, and are all free of charge (although freewill donations are appreciated). Fort Wellington National Historic Site will be the site of our Canada Day celebrations, including a Hands Fireworks show at dusk. Fort Wellington is also hosting Historic Places Day on July 6th and the annual St. Lawrence Valley Car Club Show on July 7th. Read on for much more information and the complete calendar of events. Enjoy the Fort Town Summer of 2019, and see you at Kelly’s Bay! W. B. (Brett) Todd Mayor, Town of Prescott (btodd@prescott.ca) !6

Kelly’s Beach Unsupervised Public Beach 191 St. Lawrence Street Parking behind Walker House, West entrance to Centennial Park Water Quality Testing Water quality testing is conducted weekly by the Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit. Results are shared on the “Prescott Centennial Pool” Facebook page, and the website and social media accounts of the LGL Health Unit. Signage is posted at the beach in the event of a “Caution” or “Closure” alert as a result of high levels of bacteria in the water, as required. Periods after rainfall are most likely to have high levels of bacteria in beach water. These high levels can increase a swimmer’s risk of developing irritations and infections. The most common problems are minor skin, eye, ear, nose, and throat infections, and stomach illness. While the Health Unit strives to alert swimmers when conditions are not suitable for swimming, the public must be aware that conditions may change, and that there is always a level of risk when swimming in untreated water. Beach Rules • No dogs on the beach • All children must be supervised by parents or guardians at ALL times • Never swim alone • No smoking, vaping, alcohol, cannabis, or drugs permitted anywhere within Centennial Park • Please do not leave litter behind !10
