STRONG COMMUNITIES ECONOMIC REGENERATION AND TRANSPORT 10 years of Fairtrade support Stockton-on-Tees is celebrating its tenth year as a Fairtrade Borough. The Mayor, Councillor Maurice Perry, was presented with a certificate of renewal of status on behalf of the Stockton Fairtrade Borough Partnership by the group’s chair, Maureen Rigg. The status recognises the Borough’s commitment to promoting Fairtrade principles and to supporting people in developing nations to be able to sell their products at a fair price. The Borough first gained Fairtrade status in 2007 after achieving five qualifying goals including a wide availability of Fairtrade products in local shops and catering outlets. The campaign has also been strongly supported by local residents, businesses, the Council, faith groups and schools. Fairtrade’s mission is to “connect disadvantaged producers and consumers, promote fairer trading conditions and empower producers to combat poverty, strengthen their position and take more control of their lives.” If you’d like to get involved with the campaign in the Borough, visit www.facebook.com/FairtradeStockton or email Maureen Rigg presents the Fairtrade Stockton-on-Tees has a fairtradestockton@gmail.com status certificate to the Mayor longstanding tradition in manufacturing that is still very much in evidence today.
