MAHARASHTRA NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY AURANGABAD ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY: Realising the importance of quality legal education and need of well-trained law graduates to the Bar, Bench and various professions, the State of Maharashtra took a very historic decision by creating three National Law Universities in the State at Mumbai, Nagpur and Aurangabad. Further, all the three are independent and autonomous institutions created under the Maharashtra National Law University Act, 2014. The latest one added to the list of National Law Universities in India is the Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad, which commenced from March 16, 2017. The commencement of the University has fulfilled the aspirations of the people of the Marathwada region for an institution of national importance in Aurangabad. The Law University made a beginning with admissions from the Academic Year 2017-18. Prof. Dr. K.V. S. Sarma, took charge of Vice-Chancellor of Maharashtra National Law University, Aurangabad on August 20, 2019. Earlier he worked as Registrar and also as a Professor of Law in NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad for more than 13 years. Prof. Dr. K. V. S. Sarma (Vice-Chancellor) Dr. Ashok P. Wadje is a founding Faculty of MNLU, Aurangabad and is currently holding the charge of Registrar in addition to his Teaching work. Earlier he worked in National Law University, Jodhpur (NLU-J) and other reputed Law Schools in the country. He has a Teaching Experience of more than 10 years in the Teaching field of Law. MAHARASHTRA NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY AURANGABAD The University is steered and guided by distinguished Judges, Senior advocates, eminent Academicians and abled Administrators as members of its General Council, Executive Council, Academic Council, Finance Committee, Building Committee and the Planning Board. The University has excellent, experienced and competent Teaching Staffs having background of Teaching in National Law Universities and other reputed Law Schools in the Country. VISION • To advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal processes and their role in national development. • To serve the society in the field of law by developing skills with regard to advocacy, legal services, legislation and law reforms. • To develop a sense of responsibility among the students. MISSION For the development and advancement of legal education and for the purpose of imparting specialised and systematic instruction, training and research in systems of law. LOCATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE: The University is located in the green lush campus at the outskirts of the historic city of India, Aurangabad in the Kanchanwadi area. The University campus is located in the 50 acres of the campus, which is surrounded by hills popularly known as Nath Valley area. MAHARASHTRA NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY AURANGABAD ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES: The University made a modest beginning by offering B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) course from the academic year 2017-18. The University has also started LL.M. (Master of Laws) Programme in the Academic Year 2018-2019. The University will also start Ph.D. and LL.D. courses from the Academic Year 2021-2022 with the aim of providing an advanced learning in the field of law. A. UNDER-GRADUATE PROGRAMME (B.A.LL.B. Hons.): B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Five- Year Integrated Degree Course Academic Curriculum of the University is inspired by the University Grants Commission (UGC) Curriculum Development Committee Report (CDCR) wherein the recommendations of the CDC report and the Bar Council of India (BCI) guidelines have been considered as the basic parameters to bring it in consonance with trends of globalisation, pluralism and social integration. Clinical legal education is an integral component of the academic curriculum of the university through which students understand how to appreciate practical socio- economic and legal issues and help the needy. The course curriculum promotes inter- disciplinary approach integrating law, social sciences and humanities. The University follows semester system with six working days in a week and following the norms of University Grants Commission and Bar Council of India, New Delhi. The University introduced Choice-Based Credit Based System (CBCS) for undergraduate degree course. The students are required to earn a total of 250 credit points spread out through the course of five years; however the students shall be allowed to earn more credits from the courses offered by the external experts from time to time. Further, course structure is designed to impart Total 58 (Fifty Eight) Papers of which 48 are Compulsory papers, 4 (four) are Clinical papers and 6 are (Six) Optional papers. A wide range of optional papers would also be offered to the students. The University has also introduced Seminar Papers courses to the Students in various disciplines. MAHARASHTRA NATIONAL LAW UNIVERSITY AURANGABAD Horizontal reservations: 1. Candidates belonging to Special Backward Class (SBC) will be offered reservation up to 2% of the seats, available for Maharashtra candidates (Maharashtra State seats), which come under the purview of the Competent Authority subject to condition that seat remain vacant in the reserved category of OBC. These seats are carved out from OBC seats and no separate seats are earmarked before the start of the allotment process. SBC candidates having original category OBC will be considered at par with OBC candidates. 2. 30% for women across all categories. 3. 5% for sons/ daughters of defence service personnel. 4. 5% seats of total sanctioned intake capacity shall be reserved for Specially Abled Persons (SAP). These seats shall be within the sanctioned intake of the institute and reserved only for Maharashtra State Candidates out of the five percent reservation forphysically handicapped candidates: PH-1: Visually impaired (blind) candidates (P1) PH-2: Speech & hearing impaired (dumb and deaf) candidates, (P2) PH-3: Candidates withorthopaedic disorders andlearning disabilities, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dysgraphica, Spastic (P3) Note: The University reserves the right to amend the intake, fee structure, course curriculum etc. from time to time for undergraduate programmes. B. POST-GRADUATE PROGRAMME (LL.M. programme): Maharashtra National Law University Aurangabad admits students to one year LL.M. Programme through Common Law Admission Test conducted by Consortium of NLUs.
