WELCOME TO RITUA My grandmother threw salt over her shoulder to appease the spirits. To a house spider she would extend her nger and let it crawl aboard, then circle it around her head three times before setting it free outdoors—the money spider, harbinger of good fortune. She lived in a very real state of prosperity without ever seeming to struggle for it I was blessed with extraordinary time in England with my grandmother while growing up. From her I absorbed an understanding and respect for both the natural and ethereal worlds She shared magic without calling it magic Fast forward to my life now. As a woman whose children are grown, I can see the breadth and beauty of those early days of discovery, and how they opened a door to my life’s work. What I’ve learned is this We can, each one of us, be the originator of our own magic It can be simple and natural. We can settle our hearts into a moment, gather in around our lives all the things we hold dear, and learn more about the world and its marvels. In this way we can cultivate light, and subsequently, love So dive in. Explore! The world is full of beautiful rituals and magic. At the center of each is a path to your own awareness. Please enjoy the journey All my love, always Kim Brai Proprietress, Magic Fairy Candle n . . s L fi . . . . . .
BOX CONTENTS | MABO PROSPERITY GOAT’S MILK SOA There is an abundance of energy which continually provides. Prosperity blooms in the asking. Carefully prepared with olive and coconut oils, goat’s milk and shea butter, this moisture-rich soap replenishes skin and revives the senses with organic essential oils of patchouli, orange, and clove. Lavishly lather with warm water and rinse. To prevent soap from softening, store in a soap dish which drains away standing water FALL EQUINOX BATH BOM Soften your skin with nourishing organic shea butter and coconut oil, as you soothe away active muscles after months of outdoor fun. Release, relax, perhaps set an intention, as you prepare both heart and mind. Surrounding a crystal charged under the full moon, along with enlivening organic botanicals and essential oils, simply dissolve your bath bomb in warm bathwater to relax and prepare. To adapt your bath bomb for the shower, place it in a breathable bag like a mesh vegetable bag and hang it under the stream of the shower to wash over you. Take care to remove the crystal from the bath or shower before draining. CEDAR | EUCALYPTUS | TURKEY FEATHER BUNDL Cedar is at the center of moments of prayer and ceremony for Tibetans and Native Americans, and is referenced in the sacred texts of the Bible and the Talmud. The oil of its leaves and wood repel fungus, mold, and bacteria, making cedar’s use extraordinarily protective. Eucalyptus plants produce a potent oil which clears the air immediately. Also a naturally powerful disinfectant, the oils ignite with ease, producing a waft of smoke which provides unparalleled clarity for the mind and intuitive sight. The turkey is a long-lived symbol of abundance and contentment. Remove it from your bundle before lighting and place it wherever energetic blessings of prosperity are desired. Your bundle may be safely lit and allowed to smolder within a reproof container as part of blessing, consecration, or protection. Waft the smoke in rooms, around humans, ritual tools, or altar ROUGH TOURMALIN A stone of many minerals, tourmaline varies in color depending on the type of metals within. No matter the color, its magic is electric! Rub tourmaline with a soft cloth and it will retain a static charge—one end emitting a positive charge, the other negative. Energetically it attracts positive qualities while simultaneously discharging negative energies. Use it within your circle to balance energetic polarities; hold it within your hands to steady the mind in meditation or recitation of af rmations; or place tourmaline bedside to promote compassion and emotional growth while at rest. fi . . FALL EQUINOX SOY CANDL Illuminate the night, honor the sacred, amplify rituals, enhance self care, or light your candle just because you want to! You might like to recite af rmations, write intentions, or meditate after lighting. Or maybe you just want to sit, watch the ame, and enjoy its warmth and scent. When lit, your candle creates a soy wax pool just three degrees above body temperature which can be massaged into the skin to soothe and moisturize. Made with GMM-free soy wax, it is a pure source of Omega-6 fatty acids and antioxidants which essentially become skin food when used in this manner, so go ahead and dip into that goodness and smooth it onto your skin! The beauty of your balance rituals are enhanced by this candle’s key notes of cedar, frankincense, and lemongrass ACOR Oak trees are magical beings of the tree world. They are in tune with the entire family of the forest and adjust their crop of acorns depending on what is needed by creatures who feed on the nuts, and by how many baby oak trees are needed. Because acorns are produced only by fully mature oak trees, this symbol is one of strength, persistence, and wisdom. Abundant during the season of Mabon, consider your acorn’s shape, color, and complete package of new life. Place it on your altar, hold it during meditation, carry it in a pocket as a wisdom seed. When the time feels right, perhaps plant or cast it in a wild space FALL EQUINOX ART CAR It’s amazingly beautiful to be at the apex of anything. The fall equinox is such a moment. The balance of all which has come from a full and fruitful summer, held against the knowledge of the quiet grace of the coming winter months makes it possible for each of us to hold the charm of both in our hearts all at once. There is fullness in such a time. Place your art card where you might absorb such thoughts and remind your heart to celebrate the fullness of this beautiful life INCENS Warding off insects, honoring the sacred with pleasing aromas, cleansing or blessing one another or a space—these and numerous other reasons for burning incense have been practiced throughout the centuries. Herein you have been given a selection of incense tested by time and the human heart. Utilize their aromas and purifying natures to enhance rituals, or make the hours of any given day more sacred RITUAL BOOKLE Simple and straightforward instruction is provided in this booklet for casting your circle and performing rituals. Some pages contain questions which you can ask yourself as a means of opening the heart to explore fresh awareness. Others introduce activities for ritual celebration or meditation. Over time, you may develop or add your own words and rites to personalize this practice. In fact, the more you add from your own experience, the more powerful ritual becomes fl N E . T D E . fi . . .
MABON | FALL EQUINO For a perfect moment there is balance. Every fall, for just a moment in a long year, the day and night are equal How like the earth we are in our revolutions around a central core seeking balance. We do come back to it, revel in it, and nd beauty in the dance A CHRONICL Observed when the sun crosses the equator, the fall equinox usually occurs on September 21st or 22nd. Also called Mabon, this is the second harvest in the wheel of the year, as it follows August’s rsts harvests The name Mabon is believed to have its roots in mythology, referencing Mabon as the son of Modron, a great mother goddess of Celtic myth and folk stories. A tenth-century anonymous poem, the Pa Gur depicts Mabon as a follower of Arthur, a folk hero who predates the Arthurian legends. He and his men were bound by a loyalty balanced with joy and some suggestion of supernatural powers How does a history like this come forward into modern times? There is some evidence which marries this celebration’s name with a point in the 1970’s when neopaganism was ourishing among both scholars and practitioners who attached new meaning to ancient names and terms. Other such names for the fall equinox include the beautiful and touching, Feast of the Ingathering, or Harvest Home . E . fl . X fi fi . .
A CELEBRATIO To name a celebration is to honor the moment, to lift it up among all the other days to a place of honor and remembrance. Whichever name you choose for the fall equinox, let it be what resonates with your life and heart Quite literally, the fall equinox is the de nitive time of the year when you shall reap what you have sown. The harvest of this day manifests by all the hard work you placed upon planting, tending, feeding, watering, caring for actual foodstuffs such as gardens, egg-laying hens, or livestock. Celebrate with a feast; collect seeds for next year; preserve food by canning or freezing. Finish summer projects and pause in gratitude for even the smallest good fortune This day of equal measure is also a moment for re ection upon the care and feeding of our human interactions thus far this year. You may wish to include in your celebrations, a way to give thanks to those beloved humans in your life who you have tended by your actions of love and caring these last months. Mabon allows us re ection and preparation for the coming months of waning light. In this way, we see how it is those we have cared for well in times of light who will be with us as we head into darkness THE MABON ALTA Consider setting up a space outdoors, if possible, including any items representative of balance and your nal harvest. Wherever you set it, an altar is an intimate expression of your experience with this celebration. There are no rules, only suggestions based on those who have come before us • A deep colored cloth of fall’s crimson, amber, bronze, & ery golds • Items to represent all the elements—earth, air, re, water. Some soil, a feather, your candle, and a small bowl of water are simple selections • Abundant fruits such as apples, apricots, or pomegranates • Gourds and pumpkins of all shapes and colors • Fall leaves, dried seedpods or grapevines. Bones, feathers, or bark • Stones of tourmaline, amber, topaz, lapis lazuli, & clear quartz • Personal spiritual items such as deities, amulets, talismans, or images • Something to represent both the feminine and masculine Above all, make it a delight to gather items and create your altar Simple is lovely. BALANCING RITUA When your life is in balance, you know it without question. Everything just feels good and right. Conversely, when energy between you and another feels off, you nd yourself in a state of unease. It is possible however, to regain balance THE PRACTIC This timeless balancing ritual is variously outlined in texts of our world’s ancient cultures. The heart of the practice seems simple—to regard the suffering of others exactly as our own suffering and to help others as if they were ourselves. The steps are both an individual and universal journey BREATHE & VISUALIZ With palms resting in your lap, allow your breath to come and go without changing it. Close your eyes. Without expectation or judgement, visualize the person with whom you are experiencing an imbalance. Imagine them seated in front of you in all their joy and sorrow, challenges and strengths. Envision this person with a spirit of relaxed openness EQUALIZ From here, breathe and call up all you wish to say to this person—perhaps feelings of confusion, regret, dif culty, anxiety, or sorrow. Give yourself plenty of time to breathe and feel. Then open your eyes and begin to write • Immediately write all of what you want to say to this person, remembering they are open to receiving your words • Once nished, instantly write a response from them to you, writing from within their openness. Trust your intuition and simply write without much thought • Breathe for a moment. Close your eyes. Sense the energy of this exchange. See this person still seated before you, softened and open. See yourself softened too • Allow your hand to move more freely. Write more of what your heart needs to say. Trust this person will hear you. Then write their response to you • Complete as many exchanges needed to feel emptied of your concerns REST IN BALANC Close your eyes to visualize this person in all their human frailties and strengths. Breathe and sense how their suffering is similar to your own. Ask this person how you can help. Listen for how they can help you. Breathe. Rest in the depth of your heart’s compassion. Notice over the coming days, the changes in yourself, and the changes in how you interact with this person and others fi fi E E E L fi E . . . . . . . . . .
RITUAL & INTENTIONAL MAGI Ritual is a practice. To practice means to perform an activity again and again in order to acquire a skill. For ritual, the skill acquired is awareness What does this give us? We become very present, perhaps more calm, clear about our desires and needs, more able to provide just the right kind of help to others, and more capable of identifying and ful lling our purpose on this earth RITUAL PERFORME The performing of ritual is a deeply human experience. Everyone has rituals— common ones like birthdays, graduations, holidays, marriages, and funerals. We delineate time, making it more meaningful by repetition of yearly or daily rituals. Some center around family tradition, cultural legacy, or spiritual practices. Others are simple, personal actions like preparing a cup of tea with attention and reverence, setting the table a certain way, or getting oneself ready for the day using the same sequence of tasks as the day before. If you feel you don’t know enough to practice ritual, trust yourself. You carry all you need within . D C fi . .
INTENTIONAL MAGI There is magic in every choice you make. Your presence places real power behind all you do. It’s no coincidence that paying attention makes things clear, that belief activates action, that understanding brings light to the unknown or feared In this way, intentional magic is how you live At the heart of intentional magic are three things—personal connection, knowledge, and ritual. To help you discover this in your own life, think about the way your days unfold and ask yourself these questions • What daily ritual of mine just makes things feel right • What natural items am I drawn to and what do I know about them • What rituals (mine or others) have touched me deeply, and why You may wish to take a moment to write down some of your thoughts MAKING MAGI Begin where you are. Celebrate your history and what you know to be true. Listen to what speaks to you. Pay attention to your heart, your breath, your body. Hear the wind, feel the sun, walk barefoot upon the earth. The better you come to know yourself, magic will naturally ow . C C fl ? . . . ? ? .

To cast a circle is to make a sacred vessel to hold your ritual. Guidance is provided here PREPAR Clean your space and cleanse your body with a soothing shower or soak. Consider turning off all devices. Be still and remember your intention. Choose a location either indoors or out. Protect our Earth by following local guidelines regarding outdoor ames. You may wish to use a compass to locate and mark the directions of north, south, east, and west with a ston or crystal. Walk your circle clockwise and smudge its entirety with sage or incense. Light your candle at the center E E fl . N . e
