past controversies. The 2022 Golden Globe Awards will be a private event with no live-stream due to

in the previous edition,
the 2022 Golden Globes will be a private event this year with no live-stream, the event's organisers
announced on Thursday night, as they prepared for a toned-down ceremony on Sunday.
The move comes after the cancellation or postponement of a number of other awards and festivals
internationally due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation.
“This year's event is going to be a private event and will not be live-streamed,” the award's organisers
said on the Golden Globes official Twitter page late on Thursday. The statement further added that
updates on winners will be provided on the award's social media. “We will be providing real-time
updates on winners on the Golden Globes website and our social media,” it read.
The Golden Globe Awards are organised by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) and are
considered among the most prestigious awards in Hollywood. Earlier this week, the HFPA had said
there would be no audience or red carpet at the event, which would also “shine a light on the (group's)
long-established philanthropy work” The awards haven't been without their share of controversies.
Last year, broadcaster NBC had dropped plans to televise the event following criticism of the HFPAfor the lack of racial diversity among its members. Critics had also raised questions over whether close

In response to the criticism, in October, the HFPA said it had added 21 new members, six of whom are
black. It also subsequently banned gifts and favours and implemented diversity and sexual harassment

It has also been reported that the ceremony was unable to find a broadcast partner for the year or any
celebrities willing to participate, according to Variety.
It comes after the Globes were hit by boycotts over its diversity and ethics scandal, with a host of big
names slamming the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
NBC also decided to pull the plug on the show due to lack of diversity by the HFPA.
HFPA president Helen Hoehne told The Hollywood Reporter: “Change of this magnitude takes

Variety obtained a copy of an email from the Globes talent booker that was sent out to publicity
agencies asking about clients participating in the show, but sources say no celebrities have agreed to
take part in the event.
“The Golden Globes will move forward with a small event on January 9th that will not only award the
best performances in television and film for 2021, but also on recognizing the importance of
supporting diverse creatives across the industry,” the letter read.
“The event this year will celebrate and honor a variety of diverse, community-based programs that
empower inclusive filmmakers and journalists to pursue their storytelling passions.”
“The HFPA has financially supported important underserved organizations for decades and

Ricky Gervais, 60, who hosted five of the awards in ten years, says he thinks it could even be the last
time we see the event.
In an exclusive interview with The Sun, he said: “They’re trying to get through this and start again. I
don’t think anyone’s even been invited. It’s not even a ceremony.
“You can’t predict anything in this world. They could come back stronger than ever and be loved again
or it could be the last one.
“You never know. I don’t take any-thing for granted any more. I just keep plodding on. And whatever
happens, happens.”

Deadline also reported that the decision not to broadcast an online version of the Globes has nothing to
do with the HFPA’s multimillion-dollar, multi-year deal with NBC.
According to a source at the Comcast-owned network, NBC is not blocking the HFPA’s livestream.
