Liberty Lodge No. 412 F&AM November, 2021 Trestle Board Message from the East; Worshipful Master David Finkelstein My Brothers: THE LODGE WILL COME TO RETENTION! The Retention Drive has begun! New Friendships to Build! People like to be with their friends. How are friendships built? Time. Let’s spend time with our new applicants and Brothers. We can’t help but form some friendships. Some, maybe all, of our new friends will continue to participate in the Lodge. How many of your friendships started from the time you spend at church, at little kid soccer games, working on charity or community ser- vice events? In jail? (Just kidding.) The Membership and Retention Committee has brought in several friends-elect. At our next stated meeting, we’ll talk more about implementing the actions and activities we’ve thought of. We’ll call them Friendship Builders. We’ve already planned a few Friendship Builders. We’ve started two. We’ve planned another one. More! We want more Friendship Builders! We have two new Brothers from our Membership and Retention Drive, we have balloted in these “ready made” Master Mason Brothers. We will ballot in more at the next state meeting on November 13. We will also read petitions at that stated meeting on November 13. We’ll ballot those in December 11. We have several more petitions out. Let’s all give Senior Warden Kevin Sapio a big round of applause for doing almost all the work on this. Friendship Builder 1 has been done: The first of two hello calls from a Brother (me) Friendship Builder 2 has been started: Open Houses. Let’s keep having them. For Retention. Let’s think of things we can do at them. Friendship Builder 3 will be done in 10-12 days: The second of two hello calls to each new friend-elect. From another Brother. Friendship Builder 4 is in planning: Casual meet-ups outside the Lodge for a couple of hours. We’ll plan the next activities at our next Stated Meeting. Come with more ideas! We turned off the Facebook advertisement. Time to stop looking. Time to start cooking. That’s all for this month. Build friendships! The Lodge will come to Retention! Worshipful Master David Finkelstein (941) 587-8800 Message from the West; SW Kevin Sapio Welcome Brothers, We hope all our Brothers, Family and Friends are well. Liberty hosted an Open House on October 23rd and it was a great success. Thank you Bro. JR Warden for sharing the refreshments and all the Brothers that supported our Open House. With new Petitions coming in we will be getting an EA Degree team and practice starting soon. Manatee Lodge 31 Raised three Brothers Saturday October 30th and what wonderful degree work and the hard work they put in.
Liberty Lodge No. 412 F&AM November, 2021 Trestle Board Lodges grow strong on getting Members, good Ritual, Fellowship, including Family. Please, one of the most important words we can hear is from you our Members and Brothers sending your thoughts and ideas. Brothers don't forget Work Day Saturday November 6th starting at 8:00 am and see you in Lodge. Brother S.W Kevin Sapio (941) 374-0963 Message from the South; JW Robert Leonard Greetings from the South! Hello my Brothers of Liberty Lodge #412, the day light Lodge of the 23rd District of the Grand Lodge of Florida. Wow, what a mouth full. Masons is a large organization with many parts and we are a big part of that. It is easy to look at us and say we don’t have a lot of members(yet) and it is hard to grow or survive with small numbers. I look at all we do with these small num- bers and the potential growth from the new members we are getting from our advertisements and I see things getting better. It is happening from the members of our Lodge helping make it happen. I hope this encourages those on the side lines to want to join in to help. The more that show up, the more fun and easier our Labor becomes. I am so encouraged just from how many Brothers showed up at our community open houses. I see these open houses growing and be- coming something that will grow the Lodge in not just numbers but in brotherhood and family good times. When you see the new faces around, please greet and get to know all of them. That is what I loved most about our Lodge when I came to visit and as I went through the Degrees and still love today. Thank you Brothers. This month has a few things going on. Some of the big Holidays coming up are Veterans Day and Thanksgiving which means to me parades and lots of food. The District Calendar is packed and I encourage everyone to give it a look to be able to participate in the events by our Sister(HaHa…Brother) Lodges in the district. Our meeting this month closes nominations for our elected Lodge officers. All nominations, ac- cepted and signed by the brother nominated, has to be to Brother Secretary Richard Benson by the start of the Lodge meeting of November. If you want to be in line as an appointed officer let the Senior and Junior Wardens know so we can start planning the next couple years. Again, the more Brothers we have in Lodge, the better it will get. If you have any doubts of stepping up o a position, I assure you we don’t do things by ourselves, we are a band of Brothers who support and help each other. You will not be left to do anything alone, together we will succeed. In the short future, we will be needing to put together an EA degree. It is an opportunity for us to have some fun and welcome new members by showing our pride as Masons. We will be an- nouncing for help soon to get started with degree practice. If anyone every wanted to be a De- gree Master, here is your chance. Thank you all, for being a part of Liberty Lodge No. 412 F&AM .JW: Robert Leonard, (808) 372-9979
Liberty Lodge No. 412 F&AM November, 2021 Trestle Board Message from the Treasurer; Giles Light There’s not a lot to report from your Treasurer this month. We paid our bills in October and made a $500 contribution to Southwest Florida Guide Dogs. This is a charity that we have sup- ported in the past. The donation became a lot more meaningful to me personally as the result of an experience I had in late September. While on a City Tour in Salt Lake City, one of our stops was at the State Capitol. While there, I noticed a fellow traveler with a guide dog. As I got closer, I saw a small metal tag on the dog’s collar which read “Southwest Florida Guide Dogs.” As you can imagine, my curiosity was peaked. So I said to the gentleman, “Are you from Flor- ida?” He said, “Yes, I’m from Rockledge.” So a brief discussion ensued and he explained to me how he had to go to Palmetto for a week to learn how to work with the dog. What a great story to hear when I am 2,400 miles away from Palmetto. Our Lodge can take pride in our support of this local charity. Some additional good news on the financial front. Dues statements have been sent out and payments are coming in. If you haven’t yet paid your 2022 dues, put that on your list of things to do. It would be great if all payments were received by the end of December. I’m afraid I will miss our meeting on November 13th. I will be traveling out-of-the-country for two weeks. This is my first trip outside the US in two years and was a trip that was canceled in 2020. I will provide a copy of the Treasurer’s Report for October and checks so we can pay the bills. I will be back in time for Thanksgiving and for our meeting in December. So let me close this column by wishing everyone a very happy Thanksgiving Day. If I am the first with these wishes I am happy I was able to do so. Treasurer ,Giles Light, (941) 907-8470 Message from the Secretary; Richard Benson Brothers, Dues Notices were sent out in October. Don’t forget to pay your dues! November 13 is the date that nominations for Liberty Lodge Officers will be due. They MUST be accompanied by a letter of acceptance from the Nominated Brother. For the positions of WM, SW and JW make sure you have taken the Master Mason 1,2,3 and Masonic Leadership Training. We will be needing a Secretary for the Lodge, as I would like to step down, after 4 years as the Lodge Secretary. If you would like to Become a Trestle Board Sponsor to help the Lodge defray the cost for our Website and Communications, please contact the Lodge Secretary. Liberty needs a Brother to be responsible for updating the Liberty Web Page. Please contact the Secretary if You are that Brother ! Liberty Lodge No. 412 F&AM November, 2021 Trestle Board Famous American Masons - First in Series - Benjamin Franklin “As to the Freemasons, …they are in general a very harmless sort of People, and have no principles or practices that are inconsistent with religion and good manners.” ~Benjamin Franklin, 1738 Boston-born Benjamin Franklin (1706–1790) established what became a successful printing business in Philadelphia as a young man. From an early age, Franklin developed and followed a philosophy of continual self-improvement. He also practiced this ideal in his community, helping found and improve organizations that contributed to individual and public good, including Freemasonry. Thinker and Diplomat After he retired from business in his early 40s, Franklin turned his curiosity to his vast interests, including politics, science, philosophy, literature, and diplomacy. In Paris in the late 1770s, he successfully sought French support for the American fight for independence. He later served as ambassador to France for the new United States. Upon his return to Pennsylvania as a respected elder statesman, he became President of the Pennsylvania Assembly, helped shape the new nation at the Constitutional Convention, and worked to abolish slavery. A Freemason for the Ages Franklin became a Freemason as a young man, in 1731. Able and active, he served as Grand Master of Pennsylvania just three years later and as Provincial Grand Master of Pennsylvania in 1749. Alongside his many endeavors, Franklin held many lodge and Grand Lodge offices. Near the end of his life, his Pennsylvania brethren honored Franklin as “An illustrious Brother” of “distinguished merit” entitled to the “highest veneration.” AWAITING ENTERED APPRENTICE DEGREE: None.
