Newsletter March 2021 LEVIN LINK PRESIDENT'S POST Greetings all I must start with an apology that I did not get this message to Shirley in the time frame I had promised - the antique genes are catching up ! Milton and I have had a lovely few days in the Waikato and now at Motuoapa. We attended our grandson's Grandparent's Day in Hamilton on Friday and it was wonderful to see the school he is attending as a boarder and the facilities they have. There were some 750 people attended and the comment was it is usually around 500. I guess this might be as a result of Covid and us oldies not being able to travel !!! We also caught up on relations and friends that we had not seen for some time. Was busy but very enjoyable with the brain having to work in over drive at times. We have had great weather and driven on country roads that we had not been over. What a wonderful country we live in. Difficult to get my brain in Altrusa mode but a reminder of a few things coming up. Sunday, 28th - BBQ at Sandra's home - 'The last of the Summer Wine' Friday, 26th - remember the sale of tickets for 'Calendar Girls' to be held on Friday, 16th April. I will phone contact you after I get home on Saturday or you can confirm with me by email the number you think you might sell. Had a good response to the list sent around at our meeting. Friday, 30th April - Parkinson's Collection - another great response from members. As a number of us will be at Conference I need a member to follow up and be the contact and liaison person for this Collection. Let me know if you can fill this role. As the Altrusa year is coming to an end there are many of you who are preparing reports, being contacted to fill various positions and roles and being placed on Committees, so a busy time for many. We have a great Club and it is all of you and your contributions that make it so successful. Also those of us who are attending Conference are planning our presentation to be delivered in Timaru encouraging all to join us in Palmerston North in May 2022. Remember to keep 'Extending yourself by reaching out' Airini

Chilli soup yum ? I think Dot's words below sum up another great get together . . with the steamboat menu, hosted by Diane C and Larry " "Aw Gee I’m envious of all those fabulous desserts and menus. The place where Christine, Dave, Heather and I went didn’t even cook tea - we had to do it ourselves. On top of that the host wore an apron to the table! He tried to outsmart us by preparing a whole lot of ingredients- but we got the better of him and ate prodigious quantities. Marks - probably 12 out of 10 Would I go back again - definitely sailing away Quality and quantity of food- off the scale "

He did all this without ever having graduated from high school. After the war, Spencer worked for a defence contractor. As he was walking near the radar equipment one day, he absent mindedly stuck his hand in his shirt pocket - and found a gooey mess. Spencer often carried a chocolate bar to feed squirrels at lunchtime. He knew enough about radar to suspect that its heat- producing magnetron waves could be the culprit, but he wasn't sure. So he placed a bag of popcorn kernels in front of the machine - they popped!.Then came a raw egg, which dutifully exploded all over a sceptical colleague's face! Spencer fined tuned his "Radarange" in 1947 - now the microwave oven
