Letter From the Principal
Sea Turtle Families,
We have reached the Hillary step of 2021-2022 school year. I’ve always carried with me
some unrealistic aspirations to climb Mt. Everest, and the Hillary step is, so I’ve read, the last big
obstacle before reaching the summit of Mt. Everest. This is also the most difficult part of the
climb and requires the most physical exertion combined with the least amount of oxygen
available in the atmosphere. It is the last big push until the glorious feeling of reaching the
summit. May is our last big push of our school year and I continue to encourage all our
students, our teachers, our staff, and our community members to keep pushing themselves to
do their best as we reach our goal of finishing this strange year off strong!
Perhaps no one understands the reality of our Everest-climb-of-a-school-year-metaphor
more than our teachers. And wouldn’t you know it, the Goddard School Teacher Appreciation
Week is next week! In lieu of oxygen tanks to help our teachers reach the summit, we ask that
you shower our teachers with appreciation next week. Here is the schedule for the week:
Monday- Bring your teachers a card of appreciation
Tuesday- Bring your teachers a flower
Wednesday- Bring your teachers their favorite office supply
Thursday- Bring your teachers their favorite treats
Friday- Bring your teachers a gift or a craft
Finally, please join me in congratulating Amanda Wodehouse, our PTO President, as our
volunteer of the year. She’s been an amazing lead Sherpa on our incredible journey this year.
Thanks to our community’s incredible generosity and Amanda’s leadership we have been able to
raise enough money to cover our online curriculum needs as well begin the process of
purchasing over 200 new laptops to place in our classrooms. Simply incredible. She hands over
the reins of her yak to our new incoming PTO president, Jennifer Cleek, at the end of the year.
Thank you so much Amanda and Jennifer! Have a great weekend!

Lost & Found:
If your child has lost something, they may look in our “Lost &
Found” areas on the Cafeteria stage at either school or their
front office lobbies. Items not picked up will be donated at the
end of the school year. It's that time of year again!
Testing season is here and we are in need of
proctors! Our volunteers are such an important
part of our success. We ask that you check your
schedule, and if possible, volunteer for one of our
testing times.
We are requesting that you INCLUDE: your
students' teachers' name(s) in the COMMENT
SECTION, so that we can be sure to place you in a
different classroom. Please consider being a proctor
even if your student is in the younger grades and
will not be testing. WE NEED YOU!
A few "AWESOME" things to note:
➢ Proctors must arrive at 8:30AM for proctor
training.
➢ All proctors must wear a mask, and upon
check-in, have temperature checked.
➢ Parents cannot proctor for the same teacher, or
grade level, as their child.
➢ Cell phones are not permitted in testing rooms,
but please bring a book or a magazine!

NEWS FROM EARLY ACT
The students would like to support all of the staff at
PVPV/Rawlings Elementary! They want to show their Sea
Turtle family some appreciation in the teachers’ lounges by
creating Kindness Cafes. They are going to create a coffee/tea
bar, stock the fridge with cold beverages, and provide some brain
snacks. Early Act authors and artists are also going to design
inspirational messages and notes to inspire our staff and brighten
their day!
We would sincerely appreciate your support by putting this link
into your parent newsletter or class website:

Florida Department of Education does not allow districts to
provide a virtual testing option for the Florida Standards
Assessment (FSA), Florida Standards Alternative Assessment
(FSAA), or EOC’s for the 2020-2021 school year. According to
the state Department of Education, “We are not considering
remote proctoring or at-home testing for any of Florida’s K-12
summative or postsecondary assessments in 2020-21”.
The Florida Department of Education has in the past stated that
by statute, “Participation in the assessment program is mandatory
for all school districts and all students attending public
schools…”.
St. Johns County School District does not have the statutory
authority to exempt any student from required, state developed
assessments, except as specified in Section 1008.212, F.S. which
primarily addresses students with physical impairment or children
who have a medical complexity as defined in Section 1008.22(9)

Jasper GrahamHello Rawlings Families!
Our fiber arts unit has been a great success thus far. We have wrapped up our
sewing projects and have started our weaving and embroidery projects. The
growth and emotions I see from the students has been quite impressive!
Rawlings artists are literally putting their blood and sweat into completing their
amazing projects. I have heard students exclaim exultation “This is the best art
project of my life” to “I hate this project (but renewing their grit next class)”.
What a marvelous group of students!
Please consider donating:
Cereal Boxes, we need lots of them!
Odd ends and bits of Yarn
