Kingborough Sports Precinct The Kingborough Council recently launched a future directions plan for the development of the Kingborough Sports Precinct (KSP) at Kingston. The KSP is a major community asset, which caters for the fitness, sporting and recreational needs of the local community and residents of southern Tasmania. The KSP offers a diverse range of fitness, sporting and recreational facilities which cater for local, regional, state and some national events. The Sports Centre is located at Kingston View Drive, Kingston and offers a wide range of fitness, sport and recreational facilities including a well-equipped fitness centre, group fitness room, sports stadiums, table tennis centre, martial arts and judo rooms, circus studio, basketball shot-lab, squash courts and gymnastics facilities. The Sports Centre currently has around 30 separate sporting organisations regularly using its facilities. The Sports Centre is also the home base for the high participation sports of basketball and netball via the Kingborough Netball Association and its affiliates, the Kingborough/Huon Basketball Association, the Hobart Chargers basketball club, and Tasmania’s new NBL basketball team, the Jack Jumpers. The Centre also has a unique partnership with the Kingston High School. The Fitness Centre, located within the Sports Centre, provides a wide range of services including Group Fitness classes, quality strength, conditioning and cardio equipment, and personalised fitness mentoring and an Evolt 360 body scanner. The Fitness Centre is staffed by qualified group fitness personnel and personal trainers and is currently open 7 days a week. Position Advertisement TEAM LEADER OPERATIONS, KINGBOROUGH SPORTS PRECINCT We currently have an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to join Council as the Team Leader Operations, Kingborough Sports Precinct. We are looking for a person who has a genuine interest in developing a business that helps make Kingborough a great place to live, with a particular passion for business and program development in fitness, sport and recreation. Working closely with the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the management, operations and business development of the Kingborough Sports Centre and the development of marketing and development plans in support of the Kingborough Sports Precinct strategy. You will be responsible for coordinating the delivery of events, programs, and activities within the Sports Centre, as well as staff supervision, building effective relationships with key stakeholders and networks, and the management of the Sports Centre’s operational systems. The successful candidate will be results driven, with a strong customer service focus, proven stakeholder relationship skills, and previous experience in the sport and recreation industry. Ideally you will have business development and marketing experience and have the capacity to successfully manage a team. Position Description TEAM LEADER OPERATIONS, KINGBOROUGH SPORTS PRECINCT POSITION DETAILS Position No. 000603 Directorate Governance, Recreation and Property Services Employment Ongoing full Location Kingborough Sports Centre Status time Unit Sports Centre Classification KSC Operational Employee Level 4 POSITION OBJECTIVE The Team Leader Operations, Kingborough Sports Precinct (KSP) is responsible for: 1. Supporting the management, business operations and business development of the Kingborough Sports Centre (KSC), with a specific focus on development of a health, fitness and community wellbeing, purpose and culture; 2. Assisting the Operations Manager in the development of marketing, growth and development plans in support of a Kingborough Sport Precinct strategy; 3. Work with the Sports Centre team to source and coordinate events, programs and activities at the KSC and KSP; 4. Overseeing KSC and KSP bookings systems, processes and procedures, including Council’s financial approval and budgeting requirements; 5. Supervision and rostering of KSC operational and customer service staff; 6. Assisting the Operations Manager with stakeholder management, relationship building and overseeing and supporting the KSC customer service team and customer service standards. KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Health, fitness and community wellbeing: 1. Assist in the building and ongoing development of a health and community wellbeing purpose and culture for the KSC. 2. Undertake the necessary research and development required to establish and implement new health, fitness and community wellbeing programs for the benefit of the KSC and Kingborough community. 3. Work closely with the Team Leader – Fitness Centre on the overall operations of the current KSC Fitness Centre with a view to support a cultural and operational change from a fitness centre to a health and fitness centre, whereby a new health, fitness and wellbeing program strategy is delivered by KSC staff (inside and/or outside of the KSC fitness centre). 4. Take responsibility for securing grant and/or sponsorship funding to support the delivery of relevant health and community wellbeing programs. 5. Work to establish strong and mutually beneficial relationships with individuals/groups/organisations that have interest in health, fitness and community wellbeing, specifically including Council’s community services team. 6. Contribute to the development and overall profitability of the Sports Centre. Events, programs and activities: 1. Support the establishment of annual scheduling and hiring plans for existing anchor and regular tenants/customers. 2. Ensure the Centre’s anchor tenants and regular users have their bookings confirmed and entered into our booking systems in January/February of each year. 3. Proactively source new events, programs and activities for the KSC, i.e. undertake research, development and engagement in an endeavour to secure new events, programs and/or activities for the KSC. 4. Ensure all bookings are invoiced by the customer service team, and within the procedural framework and pricing structure. 5. Ensure KSC facilities, resources and equipment are provided and presented to customers in a professional and timely manner. 6. Ensure Centre customers look after and hand-back Centre facilities, resources and equipment in line with the standards outlined in their signed user agreements. Facility care and presentation: 1. Ensure KSC managed sports/events/programs facilities, equipment and resources are set-up effectively, and in a timely manner, to enhance the smooth delivery of the activity being undertaken by a facility user/hirer. 2. Oversee the daily cleaning requirements and standards of the KSC. 3. Ensure all minor maintenance requirements at the KSC are dealt with immediately and/or within a reasonable timeframe. 4. Ensure any major maintenance issues or concerns relating to the KSC or close-by surrounds are dealt with immediately in line with approved KSC procedures. 5. Support the KSC Operations Manager with the annual KSC maintenance and capital improvements plans and maintenance budget matters. 6. In collaboration with the KSC team and other key stakeholders, develop and document KSC venue presentation standards, and regularly review these standards in partnership with the KSC team and other relevant key stakeholders. Staff Supervision 1. On a daily basis, supervise the activities and rosters of the operations staff, including customer service, cleaning and child minding. 2. Relieve the Operations Manager, KSP and take management responsibility for the overall management, supervision and administration of KSC employees as required. General 1. Provide back-up support for the KSC customer service team as and when necessary, i.e., specifically incorporating café service and KSC reception requirements. 2. Assist in the development of new systems for improved efficiencies. 3. Open and close the Sprots Centre buildings as required. 4. Assist in the regular analysis of reports using bookings management software, to introduce improvements to offerings and income. 5. Provide assistance to the Operations Manager, KSP and other staff as required. 6. Other duties as required/directed from time to time. Authority and accountability: The position is responsible for providing specialist service and for completing work with elements of complexity. Employees at this leave are accountable for the quality, effectiveness, cost and timeliness of the programs, projects and work plans under their control and for the safety and security of the assets being managed. Judgment and problem solving: The position exercises substantial responsibility and independent initiative with a requisite knowledge of the employer’s business. Judgement and problem-solving skills are required. Guidance is available from the Operations Manager. ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Reporting Relationships 1. Internal - This role will work predominantly with colleagues from the KSC (every aspect of the business). 2. External - This role will communicate with members, patrons, Sporting Clubs, event organisers, and visitors to the KSC. 3. Direct Reports - This role reports to the Operations Manager, KSP or a delegated representative. The role directly supervises and coordinates KSC operational staff as required by the Operations Manager, KSP. These reports include staff working in customer service, child minding and cleaning/maintenance. 4. A copy of the Agreement is available on the Fair Work Commission website, www.fwc.gov.au Classification and Salary: This position is classified under the Enterprise Agreement as Operational Level 4. Employment Checks: To be employed in this position applicants must undergo an employment-related background check/s and be assessed as suitable to be able to ethically perform the inherent requirements of this position. Applicants must undergo a pre-employment functional assessment and be assessed as being able to meet the functional requirements of the position. for the incumbent to be 'at risk' as detailed in Council's Employee Immunisation Administrative Policy. As a result, the incumbent is required to be immunised in accordance with Council's Staff Immunisation Program. (Vaccinations for this role include Tetanus and Hepatitis A). Hours of Work: The position is offered on a full-time basis of 38 hours per week on a roster basis. The Sports Centre operates Monday to Sunday and employees may be required to work their ordinary hours on any seven days of the week between 6am and 11pm. Leave Full time KSC employees are entitled to 5 weeks annual leave and 10 days personal/carer’s leave per annum. Thirteen (13) weeks long service leave is available after 10 years’ service and is transferable between Tasmanian Councils. Our employees may also ‘purchase’ an additional two week’s annual leave. Paid parental leave entitlements are available – 12 weeks for the primary care giver and two weeks for the non-primary carer giver after 12 months service. Paid leave is also available for employees involved in voluntary emergency services and for employees experiencing family violence. Superannuation Council meets the requirements of the Superannuation Guarantee Act and currently contributes 12.5% as the employer superannuation contribution to eligible Information Package for Applicants Page 12 of 14
