TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION The Ngati Porou Inter Marae Sports Festival 2021 will be held in Ruatoria, at Ngata Memorial College on Sunday 3rd January 2021. All these terms and conditions have been developed to ensure the sports festival runs smoothly and that people are clear about the expectations at the outset. ▪ All participating Marae must return their completed registration forms and registration fees by 12 noon, Wednesday 16th December 2020 to be eligible to participate in the 3 January 2021 Ngati Porou Inter Marae Sports Festival. ▪ In approving and/or endorsing "players" each Marae committee accepts and acknowledges; o that the Ngati Porou Inter Marae Sports Festival is first and foremost for nga uri o nga hapu o Ngati Porou mai i Potikirua ki te Toka a Taiau and their spouses o if you wish to include persons who do not affiliate to your Marae by either whakapapa or marriage then you must ensure that your Marae committee endorses and/or approves their inclusion in the marae's team. ▪ Participants may only register under and compete for one Marae. ▪ For events with specified age groupings, Marae must ensure that competitor’s, compete within their age groups, competitors cannot “compete” below or above their age group. If Marae wish to “participate only,” in an event, you must notify the event co-ordinator, prior to the event start time. ▪ Participation points are awarded to Marae who enter teams into each event, which will be included in the final aggregate score for each Marae. ▪ Every Marae is required to nominate a representative for the following positions; o Marae Team convenor – who will be the liaison person between your team and the Inter Marae Sports Festival organisers. The convenor will be responsible for appointing, within their team, captains for each sport/event. This is important as many events will be happening concurrently. ▪ All Marae must submit their final team lists for every event your Marae wishes to participate in to the administration desk before 8.45am on the day. ▪ NB: The appropriate forms for each activity are attached. These forms must be completed to ensure your teams ability to participate. ▪ If your team wishes to contest any decision made, you will be required to lodge an official complaint to the event co-ordinator within 10 minutes of the incident. The issues will then be adjudicated on by an independent panel, within 30 minutes of the issue being lodged. The decision of the adjudicating panel is final and no discussion will be entered into. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION CONTINUED Please note that the following activities are not permitted at Ngata Memorial College and TKKM o Te Waiu: ▪ smoking and/or drinking of alcohol, drugs ▪ jumping of fences ▪ riding of bicycles, skateboards or horses inside school grounds ▪ all vehicles must remain outside the gates of the school or park in the designated parking areas. Please ensure that Marae members are not participating in events where the time frames overlap, as no games will be held up waiting for players to arrive. AGGREGATED POINTS SCORING SYSTEM There are a number of events that are run separately and are aggregated to determine the overall winner. NGATI POROU INTER MARAE SPORTS FESTIVAL 2021 – Basic guidelines for each event 1 100 metre Sprints 9.30 am ▪ Only one runner per Marae for each of the following races Junior Girls Senior Women 5 or 6 year old 13 to 20 year old 7 or 8 year old 21 to 30 year old 9 or 10 year old 31 to 40 year old 11 or 12 year old 41 plus Junior Boys Senior Men 5 or 6 year old 13 to 20 year old 7 or 8 year old 21 to 30 year old 9 or 10 year old 31 to 40 year old 11 or 12 year old 41 plus Please note, this is an aggregated event. 2 4 x 100 metre relays 2.30 pm ▪ One team per Marae for each of the following relay races 1. Junior Girls 2. Junior Boys 3. Senior Women 4. Senior Men ▪ Each Marae may have one runner in each of the following age groups, which totals 16 runners per Marae Junior Girls Senior Women 5 or 6 year old 13 to 20 year old 7 or 8 year old 21 to 30 year old 9 or 10 year old 31 to 40 year old 11 or 12 year old 41 plus Junior Boys Senior Men 5 or 6 year old 13 to 20 year old 7 or 8 year old 21 to 30 year old 9 or 10 year old 31 to 40 year old 11 or 12 year old 41 plus 3 Basketball ‘4 on 4’ 10:00 am ▪ Normal basketball rules apply. ▪ Only one team per marae. Up to 8 players in the team. ▪ Only four players allowed on court at any one time during the games. ▪ Must have at least two female players on the court at all times. ▪ Games will be 20 minutes running clock.
4 Chess 10.30 am Please note, this is an aggregated event. ▪ Only one team entry per marae consisting of a Junior and Senior player. ▪ Normal Chess rules apply. Games will be timed. ▪ The tournament will be a ‘knock out’ one. ie you lose and you’re out Junior Senior • 12 and under • 13 and over 5 Darts 11:00 am ▪ One team per marae. ▪ Teams will consist of 2 male and 2 female players (18 years old and over). ▪ Flying start – Double to finish – 1001 start ▪ Players to bring their own darts. ▪ For safety – all players must wear proper shoes that cover the whole foot. ▪ Each team must have a scorer/marker – Chalkers will be supplied ▪ Knockout tournament 6 Euchre 55+ 10:00am ▪ Only one team entry per marae consisting of two players 55 years and over (any gender) ▪ Normal Euchre rules apply. ▪ Each person participating earns 1 point. 7 Fun Walk 9:00 am ▪ Marae are not required to complete an entry form for this event, as there is no limit to the number of participants. ▪ Each participant earns 1 point. ▪ All walkers must be assembled in their Marae groups on the Ngata Memorial College field at 9.00am. ▪ Your hand will be stamped as you leave for the walk. ▪ The walk will be approximately 3.5km. ▪ Please bring water, sun block, a hat and water. ▪ The emphasis is on "fun", there will be placings and no times taken. ▪ Marshall's will be at stationed at checkpoints throughout the course. 8 Horse Sports 9:00 am Please note, this is an aggregated event. ▪ There are three events in this sport - Dual Barrel Race, Dual Flag Race and Dual Potato Race. ▪ 1 team per Marae ▪ 2 riders per team ▪ 1 child (16 years and under) & 1 adult (17+) per team ▪ Riders can ride for one Marae only ▪ Helmets are recommended at all times ▪ Enter at own risk Like our Facebook page for updates: Ngati Porou Inter Marae Sports Festival “PA Wars” #NPPaWars
9 Karaoke 10:30 am Please note, this is an aggregated event. ▪ Open to any age group. ▪ Maximum of two singers per marae. ▪ Solo acts only. ▪ A wide selection of songs will be available to choose from. Entrants will choose their items at the beginning of the competition. ▪ There will be judges for this competition and their decision will be final. 10 Kiorahi –13 years and upwards 10:30 am ▪ One team entry per marae ▪ Minimum of 7, maximum of 12 in a team. Seven on the field. ▪ All team members must be 13 years or older. ▪ At least 2 females on field at all times ▪ Duration of games and final will be determined by number of team entries. ▪ The competition is a knock out basis. 11 Line Dancing 1:00 pm ▪ Marae need only complete an entry form for this event to indicate they are entering. Names of participants are not needed as there is no limit to the number of participants. ▪ Each team shall perform two line dances using different moves. ▪ Each person participating earns 1 point ▪ Judges will determine place getters based on choreography, technical skills (step sequences) and creativity. 12 Mixed Touch Rugby 10:30 am ▪ 1 team per Marae ▪ Team age group is 13 years and over. ▪ Length of games will depend on the number of teams entered in the competition. ▪ Six-a-side with a minimum of three females on the field at any given time. Up to 12 members in a team. ▪ The competition is a knock out basis. ▪ All team convenors will meet at 10.15am with the Touch Event Co-ordinator. Please ensure you attend so that any queries can be answered e.g. what happens if there is a draw? 13 Nati Kids 10:00 am Activities for kids ▪ Marae are not required to complete an entry form for this event, as there is no limit to the number of participants. ▪ Each child participating earns 1 point ▪ This event is for children 12 years and under. ▪ Could all Marae convenors ensure that participating children are lined up in their respective Marae groups ready to be counted at 10.00am. ▪ After the count, children will be split into age groups to go to the different activities. 14 Netball 10:30 am ▪ The competition is a knock out basis ▪ Games will be 7 minutes each way with a straight changeover at half time. ▪ Final 10 minutes each way with a 2 minute half time break ▪ Rolling substitutions are permitted at any time. Up to 12 players allowed. ▪ Team colours or uniforms are essential eg same tshirts. ▪ All teams must provide a confident referee. ▪ All team convenors will meet at 10.15am with the event Co-ordinator. Please ensure you attend so that any queries can be answered e.g. what happens if there is a draw? ▪ Playing team will be made up of females in these age groups; Junior x 2 Youth x 2 Senior x 2 Masters x 1 11-15 years 16-20 years 21-39 years 40+ years 15 Ngati & Healthy 10:30 am Please note, this is an aggregated event. Event # 1 - Healthy Baking Recipes ▪ One baking recipe per marae ▪ The recipe must be based on healthy options ▪ A whole sample (e.g. cake) of the recipe must be submitted for judging ▪ The method in which the sample produced must be submitted orally Event # 2 – Healthy Preserves (think beyond jams) ▪ One preserve recipe per marae ▪ Recipe must be based on healthy options ▪ A whole sample (jar) of the recipe must be submitted for judging ▪ The method in which the sample produced must be submitted orally Event # 3 – Garden / Orchard Produce ▪ One root vegetable, one green leaf vegetable and one fruit per marae ▪ Produce must be organic ▪ A photo of the produce whilst in ground or on the tree must be submitted ▪ The nature and method in which the produce was grown must be submitted orally (NO ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES WILL BE PERMITTED) 16 Flash to Trash Wearable Arts 11:00 am ▪ One team entry per marae ▪ The garment must be an original piece, and the majority of the garment must be made of re- worked rubbish or other waste materials. We define waste as something that cannot be recycled and can no longer be used for its intended purpose. ▪ Wearable Art pieces can be made any time leading up to Pā Wars. · The percentage of materials that would have become rubbish and been disposed of the landfill. The key focus is to reuse rubbish. (40 points) · Creativity and Originality- including the story of the outfit (30 points) · Construction- how well it moves, innovation in piecing it together, safety with no sharp edges. (20 points) · WOW factor (10 points). 17 Pool 11:00 am ▪ Only one team entry per marae consisting of 4 players – 2 x male and 2 x female ▪ Games will ‘cut throat’ or ‘sudden death’ ▪ Ruatoria Pool rules apply and will be displayed around hall on the day ▪ Participants will also be informed of rules before commencement of games ▪ A scrutineer will be watching the games It is advised that participants play either Pool or Darts, not both as this could hold up play 18 Ripper Rugby –12 years and under 10:30 am ▪ One team entry per marae ▪ 12 members in team (including) 3 x Reserves ▪ 3 Females on field at all times To complete a Rip, one of the two flags from the ball carriers belt must be removed. The only person who can be ripped is the ball carrier. The ball carrier must then pass the ball immediately (within 3 strides is a good guideline). He or she does not have to stop at the mark or roll the ball between their legs. 6 Rips in a row leads to a turnover in possession. 19 Rugby 7’s - Men 10:30 am ▪ Register early as only open to first 12 marae ▪ One team entry per marae ▪ 7 players on the field, 12 players per team ▪ Age group 16 years plus ▪ All team convenors will meet at 10.15am with the Rugby 7’s Event Co-ordinator. Please ensure you attend so that any queries can be answered e.g. what happens if there is a draw? ▪ The competition is a knock out basis. ▪ Team colours or uniform is essential eg. Same tops 20 Swimming 11:00 am ▪ Only one team per Marae Grades: Midget……………… 8 -10 years Junior………………. 11 – 15 years Youth………………. 16 – 20 years Senior……………… 21 – 39 years Masters…………… 40 and over ▪ Please ensure that your swimmers can swim 25 metres without assistance or stopping. ▪ Your Marae swim team must consist of one person per grade with a minimum of 2 females and males. A total of 5 swimmers per marae team per relay. (Complete your entry form carefully). ▪ First to CROSS FINISH LINE wins. No stopwatches or video referees! The judge’s decision will be key to any protest. ▪ Each team must nominate a Manager to liase with organisers. ▪ It will be compulsory to have fun, fun, fun . . . ▪ The medley relay lap sequence will be as follows: Medley Relays (one team per Marae) Swimmer 1 = Backstroke Swimmer 2 = Breaststroke Swimmer 3 = Freestyle Swimmer 4 = Butterfly Swimmer 5 = Freestyle Swimmers must swim in this order. Two of the five swimmers must be female. Mixed Free Style Relay (one team per Marae) Swimmer 1 = Midget Swimmer 2 = Junior Swimmer 3 = Youth Swimmer 4 = Senior Swimmer 5 = Masters Swimmers must swim in this order. Two of the five swimmers must be female. 21 Tennis 9:30 am ▪ All teams to assemble at the courts at 9.15am. ▪ Play will commence at 9.30am. ▪ All sections will finish in confirmed placings from 1st to last place for aggregate points. ▪ The tournament is a knock out basis. ▪ 4 players per team consisting of 2 males and 2 females. ▪ All matches will be 15 minutes long. The score at the end of this time will determine the winner of the game. ▪ Semi-final will be best out of 6 games. A draw will have a tie breaker. ▪ Final will be first to 9 games. ▪ Balls will be supplied. 22 Team Parade 8:30 am ▪ Marae are not required to complete an entry form for this event, as there is no limit to the number of participants. ▪ Each person participating earns 1 point ▪ Place getters will earn bonus points 1st = 20 points, 2nd = 15 points, 3rd = 10 points ▪ Judges will be looking for creativity, uniforms, banner and cultural component and uniformity of teams. ▪ All teams must be lined up behind their designated areas by 8.30am sharp. ▪ Team count will start at 8.35am followed by the team parade 23 Trivial Pursuits - Junior 10:30 am ▪ Marae are required to complete an entry form for this event. ▪ One team per marae. ▪ This event consists of 7 rounds; − Ngati Poroutanga x 20 questions − Sports x 5 questions − Entertainment/Trivia x 5 questions − Geography x 5 questions − Arts x 5 questions − Literature x 5 questions − General Knowledge/Current Affairs x 5 questions ▪ Each team may have a maximum of 6 members, between the ages of 8 and 14 years old ▪ The written questions will be given to each team. The team will have half an hour to answer on the forms provided. ▪ Team members are allowed to collaborate with each other, however no player may leave the room once the game has begun. 24 Trivial Pursuits - Senior 11:30 am ▪ Marae are required to complete an entry form for this event. ▪ One team per marae. ▪ This event consists of 7 rounds; − Ngati Poroutanga x 20 questions − Sports x 5 questions − Entertainment/Trivia x 5 questions − Geography x 5 questions − Arts x 5 questions − Literature x 5 questions − General Knowledge/Current Affairs x 5 questions ▪ Each team may have a maximum of 6 members. ▪ The written questions will be given to each team. 25 Tug-o-war 3:30 pm ▪ Limited to one entry per marae. ▪ Teams to consist of no more than 10 players. Must have 1 female and 1 male from each age group. ▪ The tournament will be a ‘knock out’ one. ie you lose and you’re out ▪ No sprigs ▪ Participants must have age written on arm ▪ One team only, sub ONLY if injured ▪ One coach allowed in the circle Midget Junior Youth Senior Masters 8-10 years 11-15 years 16-20 years 21-39 years 40+ years NB. This event is the finale of the day. 26 Volleyball 11:30 am ▪ Only one team per Marae. ▪ A minimum of 6 and up to 10 players per team. There must be at least 3 females on the court at all times. ▪ The tournament is on a knockout basis, i.e. if you lose, you're out.
