IDEAS TO TRY AT HOME. Read to children daily, taking time to go over new words. Look for books with illustrations that pro- vide clues to word meanings. Support your child with their phonics. Use new and exciting words in natural conversations. Try this at mealtimes or when presenting a new toy or material. Introducing a new word in con- text helps children learn what it means. For ex- ample, it’s easier for children to learn what a ukulele is when they can see and hear it as well as listening to you say the word. Sing with children and recite poetry and rhymes playfully to introduce new vocabulary. Talk with children and encourage children to talk with one another. Keep the conversation going by asking questions, making comments, and inviting children to think and share their ideas. Think about new vocabulary words that might be dis- cussed as part of a field trip. A trip to an art exhibit could introduce the word landscape, while a trip to a pizza restaurant might introduce kneading dough. Give children ample time to learn the meaning and uses of new words before moving onto other words.
Caring and Compassion Worship 3D Printing at Kilham School. This week our worship focus has been about being caring and compassionate, children learnt about the Bible story of Moses then reflected on the idea of clothing yourself in compassion. Well done to PHR, who volunteered to clothe himself in words of caring and compassion which were discussed and shared by the children in the worship. Have a lovely weekend. Mr R Palmer After the success of our Tesco bid, we are looking at putting together a 2nd request to support school buy- ing and using a 3D printer, as part of our DT curricu- lum. The pictures above show items made using a 3D printer by primary aged school children. This project would try to involve the local community. If you have any experience of using a 3D printer or would like to get involved in this exciting project, please contact school. Mr Palmer will be making contact with the local com- puter club which runs at the Star to see if they would be interested in using the printer during some after school sessions.
