Keeping In Touch 26th February 2021 Dear Parents and Carers, Last week we saw our Swimming Carnival take place. At first we were very hesitant, as these events are always a great challenge to organise. I acknowledge the brilliant work of Warren Sinclair and all the staff that he coordinates to make this day great. With the uncertainty of Covid guidelines the day before and not knowing if the day would go ahead, we were very relieved we were able to proceed on the day. Thank you to our students and staff who made this great. Furthermore, I apologise for the haste in which decisions were made and information shared. The uncertainty and rapid changes around COVID has certainly caused hurdles, but with your patience and support we have been able to continue events such as this for the benefit of our students. On Friday we saw a group of great swimmers heading to the OM swimming trials, all of which swam their hardest and made their college community proud. Congratulations to our Cecilia Paton who will represent the college at the next level. Well done CC! We ended this fortnight with a heart warming visit from author Craig Sheather who presented the story of the Wild family in his recent publication of “Sparky the Wonder Puppy”. It was a beautiful opportunity shared between the college foundation to Year 4 students, staff, Shire representatives, Craig and the Wild family. Each of our children were gifted a copy of his delightful story book. The children were delighted when Sparky himself joined us all whilst Craig read. This was a beautiful experience and we would like to thank Craig for reading “Sparky the Wonder Puppy” to our children. School Council elections 2021 Parents elected to Council There were 2 Parent positions vacant for the 2021 School Council. At the close of nominations 2 parents submitted their completed nomination forms. I declare these parents duly elected on School council for 2021-2023—(2 years) Congratulations to Mr. Nick Mason and Mrs Brenda Whitehead for nominating for this important role in the function of the College. Thank you to Petrina Hewatt who also submitted a nomination form and declare Petrina Hewatt as our Parents Club representative. I am happy to declare that all Parent positions for 2021-2023 are filled. DET employee member elected to Council There is one DET position for the 2021 School council. At the close of nomination no nominations have been received. DET employee member to be sought out to represent our Council. 2 Student members to be finalised prior to the next Council meeting. The next School Council meeting will be held on the 22nd March. All community members are invited to attend the AGM and the First meeting of the 2021 Council meeting.. Location Library - Time 7.00p.m.. Elections of the office bearers and sub committee will elected and finalised at this meeting. Last year, unlike others, all families were asked to partake in the Parent Survey. Usually the Department of Education only allows a small percent of families of which those families are computer generated. 2020 was quite the shocking year for all and we are unsure if this was the nature of the year, however only 36 families from 160 participated. Nonetheless, we still need to take this feedback on board. This does not come as a surprise and we must remind ourselves, we are actually one of the most high achieving schools in not only the region but in the state. The results in data are reflected by a percentage in positive, neutral and negative endorsement brackets. Our desire is to move the neutral endorsement (those sitting on the fence) to positive endorsement and of course, decrease the negative endorsement also. Please see the following for the colleges and school council’s areas of improvement. As a team we work together to create action plans and review progress. There below, also outlines some of those actions already in place. RESPECT RESPONSIBILITY LEARNING PO Box 225 Corryong VIC 3707 Tel. Whilst these results are still in the higher brackets in comparison to other schools, our area of improvement are in the following areas: Teacher communication at 48% positive, 15% neutral, 38% negative. End 2020 school council discussed Xuno was not always sending messages. It has since been re- viewed. Non-experience of bullying; 58% positive, 15% neutral, 27% negative. One of the action within our AIP is the development and implementation of School Wide Positive Behaviour Support where shared understanding is developed through the college community, matrix of expectations are created across the varying contexts of the college and plans for explicit teaching of expectation is developed. Staff had their first 2 days training during the last week of 2020. Continuation of training will continue on the pupil free day 31st March and currently a steering committee is being developed. College participants to be expanded to include community and students. This also reflects the need for the college as a whole Corryong community to review our values around respect for diversity of which Respectful Relationships have re-commenced and being embedded into the curriculum timetable. Other areas are highlighted through this also; resilience and the understanding of the term bullying which at times, is loosely used without unpacking. The use of social media here is also crucial, as well as the need for support from home around students not having their mobile phone at school. This is not to say the need of reviewing creating actions towards improvement is not required. Stimulating learning environment; 67% positive, 19% neutral, 14% negative. Was this due to remote learning? Opportunity to seek more information from parents and students. Issues of ‘diverse programs’ addressed with increase VET teacher. This is a consistent challenge within small schools. ‘Academic standards’ is 73% positive. Faces on the data continuing – focus on not just lifting lower student but further progressing higher achieving students. Careers introduced to earlier secondary year levels. Student motivation and support; positive 67% positive, 17% neutral, 15% negative. Was this due to remote learning? Opportunity to seek more information from parents and students. Student agency and voice; 64% positive, 24% neutral, 12% negative. Student Leadership Coordinator extended to primary year levels; Mr Gavin Heycox as well as the continuation of the work the Mr Warren Sinclair does to ensure the student leaders in the secondary areas have brilliant connections and role modelling to our younger year groups. Learning walks recommence with student feedback on teaching and learning through 2021. In 2021, we look forward to returning to our programs that increase student to student, teacher to student and community to college connectedness as well as getting back to our well developed structures of teaching and learning. On top of this, continues our teaching and learning improvement actions that are renowned amongst our network schools, our wellbeing annual action plan that combines internal and external services catered for point of need and our non-stop push to better our physical educational facilities. These improvements will continue to be presented in the KIT to keep you informed and so you are aware of opportunities where your skills or experience may be able to assist our continuous improvement cycle. Wishing you all a great week ahead, Fran Heath Principal Corryong College. PO Box 225 Corryong VIC 3707 Tel. (02) 6076 1566 Fax (02) 6076 1650 www.corryong.vic.edu.au corryong.co@education.vic.gov.au

Swimming Carnival Results The reign is over... Mitta has been dethroned and Elliot are our new champions in one of the closest contests in recent memory. Just 10 pts separated our top two in a dramatic day at the pool, with the final result not being decided until the final race of the day. Murray came home in 3rd place, with Jeremal finishing in fourth. Congratulations to all our students, it was an awesome day and while we missed not being able to share it with our wider community, we are thankful we were able to run our carnival in such beautiful conditions.
