Dear Parents and Seniors: CONGRATULATIONS! The beginning of the senior year marks the pinnacle of your high school experience. High school graduation is a milestone in everyone’s lifetime. GRADUATION CEREMONY On behalf of the Sunnyside High School staff, we commend you for the hard work, patience and perseverance in pursuing the goal of high school graduation. This year is very important and exciting for parents and students as we move toward the Class of 2019 Commencement Ceremony on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. at the Save Mart Center. The senior year is filled with several events, and the following information is designed to assist and inform students and their parents in regards to upcoming senior events, estimated costs, and policies and expectations of Sunnyside High School’s Graduation. We provide a variety of organized and enjoyable activities for the senior class during their senior year and encourage all seniors to participate. The senior year is busy, but we want to remind you of the importance of maintaining good attendance and grades. Most colleges will conditionally accept students, and submission of the final senior transcript will determine final Wednesday, June 5th, 2019, 8:00 PM admission. In most cases, students will be required to maintain a certain GPA in order to keep their acceptance status. Seniors need to stay focused on their Savemart Center coursework. Although the senior year is an exciting year for our students, please Graduates will need to report to the Savemart Center at 2:45 PM. remember that it is also a year of change. Many senior students begin experiencing a More information on Grad protocols to follow at Mandatory Senior variety of emotions that range from excitement and pride to anxiety and Meeting on May 31th, 2018 uncertainty. It is extremely important that seniors and their parents keep an open line of communication with their family, friends, and teachers. Graduation is free to attend and there is no ticket required. There is a fee for parking charged by the Savemart Center $10 As times in our society may seem fractured or splintered, I look forward to launching the Class of 2019 into society, as I know that this is a group of individuals who won’t tolerate polarization and who embrace the beauty and strength of diversity. Socrates stated, “the secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on SOBER GRAD fighting the old, but on building the new.” I have watched the Class of 2019 continue to develop a community that is focused on positive social change. Each class has their own energy and personality. This class has been quite, methodical, and focused. I expect that as they work to come together collectively this year, we will see them lead social change that is about building up a community rather than Wednesday, June 5th, 2019 tearing it down. This is a class that will not be “fighting the old”; they will be forging positive change one person, one act of kindness, and one day at time. I look forward 10:00 pm – 2:00 AM to congratulating our students on the completion of their first important step “on Blackbeard’s Family Entertainment Center building the new” Tuesday, June 5, 2019. Seniors, you do not want to miss this special event! Food, games, dancing, and LOADS OF FABULOUS PRIZES We want you to be safe and have fun on graduation night.
