Formation This Week’s Gospel Reflection Touching the Cloak of Christ In today’s second reading, St. Paul teaches the community at Corinth Look to today’s Gospel and you’ll find one of the most about a spirituality of giving. He urges them to give and helps them arresting images in all of Scripture. Christ in a crowd, understand that through their generosity, they will in turn be everyone clamoring for his attention, pressing against recipients of a spiritual abundance. They will receive from those him. Several feet away, is a chronically ill woman, weak and who are the beneficiaries of their own giving a reciprocal gift that desperate for help. She knows she doesn’t have a chance of amounts to an equality of giving that deepens their relationship with getting his attention. She has no connections. She has no Christ Jesus. A good reflection this week would be to think of the strength. All she can do is lift up her hand. So that’s what ways your own life has been enriched by your generosity. How might she does. We’re tired and we’re sick. Is it with sin? With fear? With anger? It doesn’t matter. Whatever it is, it’s made us weak, and we feel like we’ve run out of options. We’ve looked for help and come up empty. We’ve consulted friends and gotten nowhere. We’re lost in the crowd of life, unable to stick our heads above the pressing throng to wave for help. And there is Christ, always passing by us. The hem of his cloak is never far from our grasp. We have no hope of a big miracle like the synagogue leader. We don’t even bother asking for that. But that cloak ... we can touch that cloak. That’s something we can do. Do we do it, though? Do we have the confidence of that sick, beaten-down woman who knew so totally that healing was there for the taking? Or do we retreat back into the crowd, stumbling back home with our pain and our sinfulness? Reach The Apostles St. Peter and St. Paul share a feast day on June 29 as out, friends. Peter, a Galilean fisherman chosen will not fail you. — Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS by Christ as one of the Twelve Apostles, became the undisputed leader of the fledgling church after Pentecost. Paul, a Pharisee and Roman citizen who had persecuted Christians, became after his dramatic conversion the church’s greatest missionary, its “apostle of the gentiles.” By tradition both were martyred in Rome. Their adventures are recounted in the Acts of the Apostles, and letters from them are included in the New Testament. Today’s second reading (see page 7) comes from the second Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians.
