DANNY President’s Report POWER president@brisbane4wdclub.org Another month, well two months, how many of you were in ISO? As we emerge from these “unprecedented” times, I hope that we can start on our camping and four wheeling, around our great state (as we are not allowed to cross borders YET). It is funny how I felt naughty driving out of my suburb to visit a friend. Happy, when I got back to work, and then could roam the state again. I believe there are many trips in the pipeline, so keep an eye on the club Facebook events page. I think we will see more day drives although camping trips are being planned as well. It was good to see people dial into the Zoom meeting; in fact, this Zoom thing has really taken off. Funny how it has been around for years, and then comes along a pandemic and Zoom becomes a household name. It is not without its problems, but the committee has embraced it and we have managed to get some work done. Photos, Photos, Photos and more Photos. We need more photos for the magazine, 50th booklet, website and Facebook. Even the standard smart phone takes good photos these days and if you can get it onto Facebook I am sure it is only a couple more clicks to get it to the Editor and Webmaster. Share via email. Photos taken from Facebook are too compressed to use in the magazine or on the webpage. I hope all the ISO projects have been completed, and when next camping, all your cooking skills that have been learnt during the past 3 months come the fore. The AGM is coming up. Consider sticking your hand up for a role, the rewards can be great and most roles don’t require a great amount of time dedicated. Maybe just a few hours outside of the meetings. Yes, some roles are more involved, and some less. If becoming a committee member is not your thing, stick your hand up to run a trip. Again the rewards are generally greater than the effort involved. Well that’s me done. I will stop my ramblings. See you on the tracks soon. Danny

Camp Cooking with Ruth SKILLET CHEESECAKE BANANA BREAD Whilst there are a few ingredients, this is well worth the effort. Very easy recipe to cook on the Weber Q in a skillet or cake tin on indirect heat. An absolute winner up on the beach when I made it last. For the banana bread 3 medium-size ripe bananas (mash) 2 large eggs 2/3 packed brown sugar 4 tbsp melted butter 1 tsp pure vanilla extract 2 cups plain flour 1 tspn baking soda PInch salt - kosher salt if available 1 cup chocolate chips (put in bag before you go) For the cheesecake 6 oz. cream cheese, softened 1 large egg 3 tbsp sugar 2 tbsp plain flour Pinch of kosher salt ¼ cup melted chocolate, for drizzling (optional) Directions Make Banana Bread In a large bowl, mash bananas until smooth. Add sugar, eggs, butter, and vanilla and whisk to combine. Add flour, baking soda, choc chips and salt and stir until just mixed. Make cheesecake In a medium bowl, whisk together cream cheese, egg, sugar, flour, and salt. Grease a skillet, Add banana bread batter to skillet. Dollop cream cheese mixture all over the top of banana bread batter Use a butter knife to swirl the two batters together. Smooth top and bake until cooked – approx. 30 to 35 minutes. If using, drizzle with chocolate before serving. Click here for the video / website
From the ARCHIVES Some of the terms in this are seldom used these days but it is still a fun read Ron n Rhondda COMPUTERS Why Computers Sometimes Crash! by Dr Seuss. A book for obsolete children. (Read this to yourself aloud!) If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port, and the bus is interrupted at a very last resort, and the access of the memory makes your floppy disk abort, then the socket packet pocket has an error to report. If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash, and the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash, and your data is corrupted cause the index doesn't hash, then your situation's hopeless and your system's going to crash! If the label on the cable on the table at your house, says the network is connected to the button on your mouse, but your packets want to tunnel to another protocol, that's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall...... And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss, so your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse; then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang, 'cos sure as I'm a poet, the sucker's going to hang. When the copy on your floppy's getting sloppy in the disk, and the macro code instructions is causing unnecessary risk, then you'll have to flash the memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM, and then quickly turn off the computer and be sure to tell your Mum!
From the ARCHIVES Sept 1984 I admit I am not a good passenger and after I gave my eldest daughter her first driving lesson I booked her in with a driving school, so I can relate to this item. Ron Harders FOUR WHEEL DRIVING WITH MY WIFE by Mal Wade This story is about four wheeling with my wife. I do all the driving in our family. Not that my wife would make a lousy driver: suffice be it that I tell you that on her first (and last) driving lesson, she nearly wrote off a Morris Mini and almost put our Landcruiser over a cliff, in sixty seconds flat, in first gear, with the handbrake on, and me running behind. Katie is a little nervous when I drive. For example, a few years ago I was forced off the road whilst taking a corner on a road I knew well, and the mud thrown up covered the windscreen whilst I had my hands full with two tonnes of recalcitrant Landcruiser. I thought to myself after realising that Katie had been quiet for about ten minutes "Gee-, Katie took that well, considering that I couldn't see where we were going for a few minutes there", and stole a glance at my passenger only to find a bronze statue welded to the panic bar on the dashboard! A while back, we went on yet another, four-wheel drive trip with the club: Katie with her pillow and blanket as usual, and two friends as ballast. The trip was going well with everyone really enjoying themselves on the first day. You can always tell, when Katie is enjoying herself: she sits in the foetal position in her front seat, cuddling her pillow under her blanket. The pillow muffles everything she says somewhat, and unless you knew her well, you would swear that she is mumbling something like "I want to go home" or 'When are we going to get on a road, Mal?". When you know her though, you realise it is her Irish accent making her hard to understand, and that is her way of expressing pleasure. It must be; she keeps on coming on four-wheeling trips with me!
From the ARCHIVES At the camp fire on the first night, Katie found out something that everybody else already knew. The track we would follow the next day had not been followed in its entirety by a four-wheel drive for many years. The trip leader had followed it recently, but some of it was on motorbike, some on horseback, some in four-wheel drive, and some on foot. Of courses Katie was so excited about it that she immediately raced back to the tent to tell our friends about it, emitting high pitched screams of excitement as she ran. She must have forgotten that they were at the campfire with us. Gee she likes that pillow of hers! Kattie is not real rapt in fauna: particularly legless reptiles that hiss in the night near her bed. We had a hard time convincing her that the noise emanated from a leaky air bed in the adjacent tent. I have had nights with fewer interruptions to my sleep. The climax of the trip came the next day when we had a particularly exciting climb to exit from a creek-bed. Most of the vehicles had to be winched or towed up the embankment, but I refused to let this minor obstacle embarrass me. In fact, eight times I refused to let this minor obstacle embarrass me. I knew that I could get my Land-cruiser up it, and hell or high water would not stop me trying. Well, on the seventh attempt, half way up, with the car perched between a tree-trunk and a boulder, on a slippery clay 45 degree incline, Katie decided on the spur of the moment that she wanted to see what the situation looked like from outside the car. She could have waited until the floorboards were a little closer to the ground, though, or even until I had stopped! What I do not really understand, though, is what she meant when she dived back in moments later muttering something that sounded like "If you are going to die, then I want to, die with you!". We gave everyone a bit of a show when we eventually crested that silly little embankment: the people who dived out of the way when "Measles" crested the embankment at full revs in second- low with all four wheels air-borne are not likely to forget the day. Especially the poor guy who dived into the patch of nettles.

How to create a Facebook Event on the club members group It is best to complete this task on your computer rather than your mobile phone Facebook application as it gives you additional options on your computer rather than your mobile device to complete. Step One: Make your way to the “Brisbane 4WD Club Members Group” Step Two: On the left-hand side of the screen you will see an “Events” tab. Click the Events tab. This will open a list of current events. On this page you will see a blue icon with “Create Event”. Click “Create Event” tab and a new screen will pop up with event details to fill in. Step Three: Complete event details thoroughly. It will give you the options to include dates and times, attach a photo to the event, add details or a spiel of the event and any extra information you need. Make sure you complete the “location section” and the event name section. Example of your event name may be something like “Janowen Hills 4x4 Park”. Step Four: You will need to select the box in the Post Permissions section that reads “Anyone can post”. This allows other members to post in the event once it’s created. Step Five: You are able to select co-hosts to the event who must also be members of the “Brisbane 4WD Club Members Group” Example. If you were running a combined club trip with “Fred” you could add Fred in as the co host to the event so then he would also get the updates on posts or be able to edit the event details. Step Six: Ensure that you leave the tick box selected that reads “invite all members of the Brisbane 4wd Club Members Group”. Step Seven: Once you are sure that all details are correct within your event table and all of the above steps have been completed in full you may proceed with clicking “Create” at the bottom of the menu. Once you hit create this will process the event and send an event invitation out to all members of the club Facebook group. From here the invited members may post on the event with any questions they may have, show their intent to attend, give them the option to confirm if they are “Going”, “Maybe Going” or “Not Able To go”. This will give the trip leader some indication on numbers as they start. It is best for the trip leader to create their own Facebook event as then being the creator of the event they will receive appropriate notifications when members post into the particular event that they are running. It is best to create the event in the members group once the trip has been approved by the committee. If you have any queries on how to create an event on the club Facebook page please contact either Shane or myself by mobile or on email: pr@brisbane4wdclub.org Matt Zander & Shane Rose PR TEAM
