www.sdmbbsc.org Commodore’s Comments by Jonathan Schoen Page33 Happy February! As a first order of business, I want to thank all that attended this year's Installation event. It was an incredible night (in an almost unrecognizable hall with all of the incredible decorating and lighting done by Black Tie Events) and the perfect way to say "thank you" to all of our great members who do so much for the Club and members all year. Additionally, it was a great way to show the appreciation for the outgoing officers and board members and welcome those newly-elected by the membership. We were also able to say and extra special thank you and congratulations to our Women (yes, there was a tie) and Man of the Year: Sherri Souza-Adams, Maria Potter-Wood, and Patrick Adams. All extremely well-deserved honors and great to see the members recognizing and appreciating this year's recipients for all they have done, and continue to do, for the Club. Speaking of unrecognizable facilities, I am writing this month's note from the Club today while enjoying conversation with members and watching the Farmer's Open on our newly upgraded televisions. When the TV installer arrived yesterday, he immediately commented on the vastly improved look of both the hall and the lounge since last being here about a year ago when he was repairing our sound wiring issues. When he was finished with his work and was verifying everything was operating correctly, he commented, "I need to join this Club, it's the perfect place for me, which I didn't think last year before all of the work that's been done". It was a great moment of validation of all of the effort and investment we've put in this past year and the effect it has on bringing in new members, and encouraging existing members to spend more time socializing and hosting their own events at the Club. The Club performed admirably last year, operating in the black almost every month and ending with a net profit in excess of $40,000. While not necessarily breaking the bank, every bit helps for the eventuality that we need to relocate to South Shores. While not an immediate threat, we continue to hear from the City of San Diego, Parks and Recreation, and even city council members that we will need to vacate. And, as the recent events at Bahia Point demonstrate, we never know for sure what kind of deals are being struck behind closed doors to expedite drastic changes in Mission Bay. We will continue to monitor the proposals, attend meetings, and keep all of you informed as the process continues. I look forward to an even better 2018 and seeing all of you at the Club soon! Jonathan Schoen Commodore Members read out in Good Standing for the month of January, 2018: Mark & Catey Nelson, Chris Williamson & Estee Schmaltz, Babak & Cybele Federico-Azad and Stephen Hanson. Chef Jeff Prince a job well done, your Prime Rib Dinner was excellent. To Sonya Chandler, Roger Bradley & Scott Byrnes, A big thank you for all you did. I feel everyone had a wonderful time. We should plan more dinners like this through out the whole year. On a personal note, I want to Thank You all for the votes for Man & Women of the year, for Patrick and myself.
