ARTS & CULTURE ON EXHIBITION BEAUDESERT ABOVE & BELOW EXHIBITION LAUNCH EVENT: 27 MARCH - 15 JULY FRI 27 MARCH 6.00pm for 6.30pm The Centre Beaudesert The Centre Beaudesert Artists Mary Elizabeth Barron and Therese Flynn- RSVP Phone 07 5540 5050 Clarke reflect on our environment and place from or email thecentre@scenicrim.qld.gov.au ground level and aerial viewpoints through their exhibitions Under Foot and Patterns of my Days (Rights of Nature). Under Foot by Mary Elizabeth Barron The beauty in the often less appreciated and noticed natural wonders beneath our feet has inspired this body of work, which draws attention to the intricacies of natural debris. The colour, shape and textural qualities of leaves in their dying stages, fallen bark and twigs are complex and intriguing. These elements are often either un-noticed or considered green waste. Shrines to Nature and Vessels of Nature These sculptural containers celebrate the diversity of colours and textures and the natural plant materials from which they are made. Patterns of my Days (Rights of Nature) by Therese Flynn-Clarke Therese’s art practice has long held a deep connection to place. The opportunity to connect visually and viscerally to many places in remote and regional Queensland has inspired the Patterns of my Days component within this exhibition. SCENIC RIM HERITAGE NETWORK The Scenic Rim region is rich in history and is home to a number of fascinating and well-resourced museums which play a key role in preserving our region’s cultural heritage. The Scenic Rim Heritage Network (SRHN) is open to community museums and heritage groups and is supported by Scenic Rim ARTS & CULTURE Regional Council’s Heritage Project Officer and a Queensland Museums Officer. It includes historical villages and museums that chart the progress and development of architecture, farming techniques, living arrangements, politics and major events throughout the Scenic Rim. Meetings of the SRHN are held quarterly at museums around the region. The network has been instrumental in developing signage for our Vibrant Towns and Villages project, to create a sense of place in our communities, and is working on the development of heritage trails across the region.
