Why travel is important
Japan: Land of the Rising Sun - Group Leader: Jamie Good - Westmount Charter School
Travel, like raising kids or doing a
job, or any kind of experience is how
you gather the raw materials. It’s
how you go to the market of a place
of life. What you do back in the
kitchen is the stillness part. Stillness
is how you take all of those raw
materials and make a meal or a life
out of it. It is how you take the sights
you have seen in the world and try to
turn them into insights.

Why Japan?
• We know that many of our students have been to
Europe and/or plan to travel to Europe in the near
future, and Japan offers something different.

• This trip would offer our students a unique set of
experiences upon which to reflect and launch from
Westmount into our globalized world with an
    enriched pantry of ingredients.

• It would feed their heightened inner capacity for
    emotional and intellectual reflection thus
broadening their appreciation of people who, for
most, have a vastly different perspective on the
human experience rooted in Japanese culture,
    history and geography.
