The Word from Fr. Pat / La Palabra del Padre Pat / Słowo od Ojca Pat One thing I ask of the L ; this I seek: To dwell in the house of the L all the days of my life, That I may gaze on the loveliness of the L and contemplate his temple. Psalm 27:4 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, As you may recall, last fall we conducted listening sessions and a survey to investigate the possibility of a capital campaign to address various structural needs for our parish. We communicated the results of that effort before Christmas along with our annual financial report. As a result of all of that, Saint Mary Immaculate parishioners gave approval for moving forward with the We are Saint Mary’s (#wearesaintmarys) capital campaign, and we received permission to conduct a campaign from the Diocese of Joliet. The project list has been fine-tuned based on parishioner input and everyone is invited to attend a campaign informational session to learn more and pick up their campaign materials. These information sessions will review what we plan to do and answer your questions about the campaign. I want to make sure everyone knows what’s going on, so I ask you to please make time to attend one of the informational presentations. Those presentations will take place on: Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 7:00pm in the Upper Room Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 10am in the Upper Room Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Noon in the Upper Room Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 8:45am in the Upper Room Sunday, February 9, 2020 at 10:15am in the Upper Room Friday, February 21, 2020 at 8:15am in the Upper Room Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 10:00am in the Upper Room Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Noon in the Upper Room Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 8:45am in the Upper Room Sunday, February 23, 2020 at 10:15am in the Upper Room I value your time, and very much appreciate you making time for this important endeavor for our parish, so please know that the informational sessions will last less than an hour. I encourage you to bring a neighbor or friend with you; again, we want to be sure everyone gets the information first-hand. I look forward to seeing you at one of the sessions, and to making this campaign successful together. We are Saint Mary’s! Esas presentaciones tendrán lugar en: January 26, 2020 One Family in Faith Making Christ Known Page 3

Suyo en Cristo y su Santísima Madre, Padre Pat Mulcahy, Parroco O jedno proszę Pana; tego szukam: Mieszkać w domu Pańskim przez wszystkie dni mego życia, Abym mógł patrzeć na piękno Pana i kontemplujcie jego świątynię. Psalm 27: 4 Drodzy Bracia i Siostry w Chrystusie, Jak zapewne pamiętacie, ostatniej jesieni przeprowadziliśmy sesje odsłuchowe i ankietę, aby zbadać możliwość przeprowadzenia kampanii kapitałowej w celu zaspokojenia różnych potrzeb strukturalnych naszej parafii. Our Family in Faith - Education and Formation Dear Friends: I look forward each year to the last week of January, when we observe National Catholic Schools Week. As a parish, we recognize the value of Catholic education and support our families and school in educating our young people so they can reach their full potential. We acknowledge the vital role of the school faculty, staff and volunteers in this effort. And we celebrate our students as they learn about their faith and the skills they need in the 21st century. The week’s theme—”Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve Lead. Succeed.”—focuses on the core of Catholic education. Schools are not only communities themselves, they are also part of larger communities, including St Mary Immaculate Parish School, in Plainfield and our nation. As a parish, we support our school through prayer and resources, and the school, in turn, collaborates with families to develop our children into future model leaders and citizens. The theme also highlights key elements of Catholic education: academic excellence, leadership and dedication to service. These elements are what set Catholic schools apart from other educational options. As you can see from the schedule, St. Mary Immaculate Parish School has planned events to celebrate National Catholic Schools Week that the whole parish can enjoy. It’s a great opportunity for all of us to see what our students are accomplishing and thank the faculty, staff and volunteers who give so much of themselves to educate our children. Our Catholic schools are part of our future as a Church and a nation. May God bless them and all who contribute to the important work they do on behalf of the children of our parish and parishes across the country. Yours in Christ and His Blessed Mother, Rev. This is what the spirit of Christmas is all about - this is the heart of SMI - and YOU all brought so much joy! Dear St. Mary Immaculate Giving Tree Ministry, I was hoping to somehow get this to your dear members who contributed to your giving tree, and especially to those who donated gi s for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. I am a social worker from Drauden Point Middle School and was brought the bag of stockings from your parish on Monday. I was so excited to be given such huge blessings to pass along to our students here. The other social worker and myself picked students that are struggling financially, whether it be to their parent losing a job, a parent passing away or other difficult life circumstances, to be gi ed these stockings. I wish I could have taken pictures of their huge smiles, giggles and exclama ons of “Oh My” when they were given their stocking. A few of them asked to open their stocking right away, while others decided to wait un l they got home. To say they were thankful is an understatement. I am also truly grateful to whomever donated to your giving tree ministry! I tell my parents every year that I have truly been blessed in my life and I find joy in seeing my students have true joy. Your stockings brought true joy to the students at Drauden Point. So from the bo om of my heart, I wanted to take a quick second to thank you for the blessings and joy you brought to many students that really needed it this me of the year! May you have a Blessed Christmas and start to 2020! Miriam January 26, 2020 One Family in Faith Making Christ Known Page 11

Meeting Christ in Prayer An 8-Week Life-Enriching Experience Meeting Christ in Prayer is an engaging eight-week guided prayer experience. It is modeled on the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, which is a tried-and-true method of spiritual renewal. By means of prayer, reflection, and faith sharing, Meeting Christ in Prayer introduces participants to various ways of praying, helps them form regular habits of prayer, and provides them with an opportunity to meet Christ anew and to experience support in the Christian life in a new way. No prior experience in praying with others is needed, just a desire to renew one’s faith, enrich one’s prayer life, or become more aware of God’s presence in everyday life. A $10 donation is asked to offset the cost of the book. Sessions will meet on: − Sunday mornings after the 9am Mass starting January 26 @10:30am − Thursday evenings starting on January 30 @ 7pm.
