3|P a g e Arrival in Rome 1) From Fiumicino Airport By Train To reach the airport train station follow the indications in the airport arrivals hall. Train tickets are sold at the station counter and at automated machines. You can pay with cash or by credit card. Alternatively, you can buy the tickets on-line: www.trenitalia.it The Rome Fiumicino “Leonardo da Vinci” Airport (FCO) is connected to the city centre via a direct express train and slower trains on the FR1 Regional Railway line. Leonardo Express: - direct train to Termini Station; - journey time 30 minutes; - ticket costs € 14; - the train leaves the airport every 30 minutes from 6:36 am to 11:36 pm. By Bus A number of bus companies provide transportation from the airport to the centre of Rome (‘Termini’ central train station or Piazza Cavour - Vatican Area). Tickets cost €4-6 one-way and €8/12 return trip; the journey lasts ca. 1 hour, but traffic during peak hours can severely delay the buses. Night bus 40N (€4.50) connects the airport with the train stations of Rome Tiburtina and Rome Termini; tickets cost €4.50; buses depart at 1:15 am, 2:15 am, 3:30 am and 5:00 am; tickets are sold on board. By Taxi The cost of a taxi ride from Fiumicino Airport to the city centre (within the Aurelian Walls) is €48. Beware of taxi drivers trying to overcharge you. All costs should be clearly indicated and available inside of the taxi and agreed. Taxis in Rome are white and they have an identification name and number on the front door. 2) From Ciampino Airport By Bus Direct bus services from Ciampino to Termini station are provided by several bus companies (SIT, Terravision, Schiaffini); tickets can be bought at the airport; tickets cost €4.00/€4.50
4|P a g e By Bus and Train To get to Rome city centre from Ciampino airport (CIA) you can take a bus (Cotral) at the airport to the Underground (Metro) Line A station in Anagnina; tickets cost €1.20; buses leave every 40 minutes from 6:00 am to 10:40 pm. From Anagnina, you can take the underground or city buses; you can use the same ticket for buses and the underground; the ticket costs € 1.50 (valid for one Metro ride or 75 minutes on all buses). Alternatively, you can catch the bus from the airport to Ciampino railway station; tickets cost €1.50 from there you can board a train to Termini station; tickets cost €1.30; journey time 15-20 minutes. By Taxi The cost of a taxi ride from Ciampino to the city centre (within the Aurelian Walls) is €30. Beware of taxi drivers trying to overcharge you. All costs should be clearly indicated and available inside of the taxi. Also, make sure you are taking a Rome Taxi Cab and not a Ciampino Taxi Cab, as the latter will be far more expensive.
5|P a g e Information about Public Transport system of Rome Buses, Underground, Urban Trains and Trams Metrebus is Rome’s public transport system, which incorporates different types of services: tube/subway (metro), urban trains (treno metropolitano), buses and trams. Most buses run from 5:30am to 12:00am (night buses are available after midnight). Underground trains run from 5:30pm to 11:30pm Sunday to Thursday and from 5:30am to 1:30am on Fridays and Saturdays. It is highly advisable to always check the ATAC website for the latest service updates when planning your journey. Tickets and Passes Tickets can be purchased at most newsagents and coffee shops and at vending machines at bus stops and underground stations around the city. Different kinds of tickets are available: BIT (SINGLE RIDE - € 1.50) - Valid for 100 minutes from initial validation on buses (including Cotral buses within the city), trams, regional trains within the City (2nd class) and subway (without exiting turnstiles). BIG (DAILY - € 6) BTI (3 DAY - € 16.50) CIS (WEEKLY - € 24) Daily, 3-day and weekly tickets are valid until 11:59 pm of the day of expiry for unlimited rides on all buses, trams, regional trains (2nd class) and subway lines within the city.
7|P a g e Additional useful Information on the city of Rome A) Electricity supply - Italy has a 220 volts electricity supply, the sockets are three round pins in a row. B) Mobile phones - There are four mobile phone GSM operators active in Italy: TIM, Vodafone, Wind and 3. They operate on the 900/1800 MHz bands. Participants can check with their home country provider whether roaming is available with one or more of the operators mentioned above. C) Shopping - Shops in Italy are usually open from 9:00 to 13:00 hours and from 15:30 to 19:30 hours. However, many of the shops in the downtown area also remain open during the lunch break. D) Pickpockets - Participants are advised to carry their valuables in a safe place, especially on public transport. Although Rome is a safe city, there might be pickpockets on the street, the underground and on buses and trams, in particular in touristic areas. Once participants have checked into their hotels, it is advisable to leave valuables in the hotel safe. Identity cards, keepsakes and anything else not needed in the city are best left at the hotel or place of residence. E) Insurance - Participants should ensure that they have appropriate and sufficient medical and travel insurance. 9|P a g e How to get to the Sapienza University Sapienza University is located in the heart of Rome, just a ten-minute walk away from the main “Termini” train station. The main entrance to the University Campus is at Piazzale Aldo Moro, 5, but there are many side entrances to the main campus. You can find a Virtual Tour Interactive Map of the campus at the following links: http://virtualtour.uniroma1.it/; http://www2.uniroma1.it/mappe/sapienzamappe/default_e.php From Termini Train Station you can easily reach Sapienza on foot. It’s only a 10 minute walk from the Termini Train Station. Otherwise, take bus n. 310 and get off at the “Università/Regina Elena” Stop. From the Tiburtina Train Station: take bus n. 71 or n.492 and get off at the “Verano/DeLollis” stop. By Subway/Underground: take the “B Line” Metro to the “Policlinico” stop. 11 | P a g e The conference venue Work sessions will be held at the Rectorate, Sapienza University of Rome, Piazzale Aldo Moro 5, in the following rooms: Aula Organi Collegiali for plenary presentations and work sessions; Aula Multimediale and Aula del Senato Accademico for work sessions; Aula Commissioni for secretary and staff.

13 | P a g e Aula Organi Collegiali has a multimedia system with computers for presentations, cameras and two plasma screens, each seat has screen and microphones (around 80 seats); Aula Multimediale has around 50 seats and is equipped with computers for presentations and supporting plasma screens.
14 | P a g e Aula del Senato Accademico (1st floor) has around 40 seats, a computer for presentations, a maxi screen and microphones. The integration of audio/video systems allows streaming, both “on-demand” and “live”, of the events that take place in any of the rooms connected to the multimedia system. Technicians give technical support for audio and video registration of the events. The entire area is covered by Wi-FI connection.

16 | P a g e Additional useful Information on the Hotels Hotel San Giusto From Fiumicino “Leonardo da Vinci” Airport you can either take a taxi to Piazza Bologna 58 (Rome), or a Terravision Bus or the direct train Leonardo Express to Termini railway Station. From Termini railway station take underground blue line B (direction Rebibbia) and get off at Piazza Bologna (3 stops). The hotel is located right in front of the exit. From Ciampino airport take the bus to Anagnina underground stop, change to underground red line A, go to Termini central station, change to blue line B and get off at Piazza Bologna. From Hotel San Giusto to Sapienza – go on foot through Viale delle Provincie, Viale Ippocrate, Viale dell’Università (1,4 km) or take underground blue line B at Piazza Bologna and get off at Policlinico (1 stop). If you take the underground blue line B and get off at Policlinico when you leave the Metro station walk through Viale Regina Elena (1,2 km). The Sapienza Campus entrance is a five minutes’ walk from Viale Regina Elena. From Sapienza to Hotel San Giusto go on foot through Viale dell’Università, go straight to Viale Ippocrate and turn left in Viale delle Provincie, or take underground blue line B at Policlinico and get off at Piazza Bologna (1 stop). You can get the blue line B at Policlinico by Tram or Bus (1 stop ) from Viale Regina Elena (any tram or bus direction Via Nomentana). From Hotel San Giusto to Casa dell’Aviatore go on foot through Viale delle Provincie, Viale Ippocrate, Viale dell’Università or take underground blue line B at Piazza Bologna and get off at Policlinico (1 stop). If you take the underground blue line B and get off at Policlinico when you leave the Metro station walk

Alternatively, you can take Bus n. 310 in Viale delle Provincie and get off at Viale dell’Università-Ministero Aeronautica (5 stops). Casa dell’Aviatore is in front of the Bus stop. From Termini railway station take underground blue line B (direction Rebibbia) and get off at Policlinico (2 stops), or go on foot through Via Marsala, turn left in Via del Castro Pretorio and go straight to Viale dell’Università and Viale Ippocrate (20 min.). From Hotel Globus to Sapienza walk through Viale Ippocrate and you will be in front of the Sapienza Campus. From Hotel Globus to Casa dell’Aviatore walk through Viale Ippocrate and go straight to Viale dell’Università (500 meters). You will find Casa dell’Aviatore on the left.
18 | P a g e Foresteria Sapienza From Fiumicino “Leonardo da Vinci” Airport take a taxi to Via Volturno 42 (Rome), or a Terravision Bus or the direct train Leonardo Express to Termini railway Station. From Termini railway station From Piazza dei Cinquecento turn right in Viale Enrico De Nicola and then left in Via Volturno (5 min.). From the exit in Via Marsala turn left and go straight. From Foresteria to Sapienza go on foot through Via Marsala, turn left in Via del Castro Pretorio and go straight to Viale dell’Università (15 min.), or take underground blue line B at Termini (direction Rebibbia) and get off at Castro Petrorio (1 stop). If you take the underground blue line B and get off at Castro Pretorio, when you leave the Metro station walk through Viale del Castro Pretorio (800 meters) and turn left in Viale dell’Università (700 meters). You will find the Sapienza Campus entrance in Viale dell’Università on the right or you can turn right in Viale delle Scienze and find Sapienza main entrance in Piazzale Aldo Moro 5. From Sapienza to Foresteria go on foot through Viale dell’Università, go straight to Via del Castro Pretorio and turn right in Via Marsala; then go straight to Via Volturno. If you take underground blue line B at Castro Pretorio (direction Laurentina) get off at Termini (1 stop). You can get the Metro station at Castro Pretorio from Viale dell’Università and turn right in Viale del Castro Pretorio.
19 | P a g e From Foresteria to Casa dell’Aviatore go on foot through Via Marsala, turn left in Via del Castro Pretorio and go straight to Viale dell’Università (10 min.), or take the underground blue line B at Termini (direction Rebibbia) and get off at Castro Pretorio (1 stop). If you take the underground blue line B and get off at Castro Pretorio station walk through Viale Castro Pretorio (800 meters) and turn left in Viale dell’Università (800 meters) or alternatively take bus 310 (2 stops). You will find Casa dell’Aviatore on the right.
