Teaching Council • Route 1 – Primary. Initial reg. fee of €90 Requirements: • Qualifications • Vetting • Annual re-registration is €65 p.a. • www.teachingcouncil.ie • Register prior to taking up a temporary or permanent job *without this you can not be paid. • Subbing – 5 day rule applies without registration
Garda Vetting • You cannot work in a school without Garda vetting • In the calendar year that you are due to graduate you can apply to be vetted on the Teaching Council’s website (e-vetting) • Will speed up your registration process when you qualify • Garda vetting for teaching practice placements is not sufficient to engage in substitute work

Droichead • Change of focus from probation to induction, and from evaluation to support - “Progression not perfection” • Post of a minimum of 60 consecutive school days • Must attend 3 NIPT induction seminars and complete 1 professional learning activity • Apply by sending Form DR 1 to the Teaching Council • Reflective practice, mentoring & professional conversations supported by Professional Support Team (PST)
NIPT – National Induction Programme for Teachers
NIPT (contd.) Purpose: To support the professional growth of teachers during the induction phase Vision: Quality induction for every teacher Motto: To ask for support is a sign of strength
Salary ✓ Primary and Post Primary paid on same pay scale ✓ Graduate as of 1 October 2020 will start on €37,692 (point 1 of the scale) ✓ Increasing up to €70,795 (Over 25 years) ✓ Salary is paid every second Thursday from the Department of Education (DE) Payroll Section ✓ All qualified substitute work counts towards increments (moving up the pay scale) and service for Supplementary Panel ✓ 183 school days = 1 school year ✓ Holiday pay paid in respect of each day worked
