2 The School Scuola di Medicina e Chirurgia Università degli Studi di Napoli “Federico II” Via Sergio Pansini, 5 80131 Napoli, Italy The School of Medicine and Surgery of the Federico II University of Naples was UNIVERSITÀ DEGLI STUDI DI NAPOLI FEDERICO II – SCUOLA DI MEDICINA E CHIRURGIA established in 2013 from the union of seven Departments (Clinical Medicine and Surgery; Molecular Medicine and Medical Biotechnologies; Neurosciences, Reproductive, Oral and Maxillofacial Sciences; Advanced Biomedical Sciences; Translational Medical Sciences; Public Health; Pharmacy). The School’s location is the Federico II Policlinic University Hospital (Google Maps position), in the hospital area of the city of Naples, easily reachable by subway (Policlinico station, line 1) and buses from the city center (ANM website). The large campus includes more than 20 buildings (each one with wards, clinics, offices, libraries, classrooms), restaurants, shops, and a bank office (internal map).

6 Medicine and Surgery: Curriculum Overview The Medicine and Surgery core curriculum is structured into 6 years, 12 semesters (called cicli, cycles), and 36 integrated courses, each one with a specific number of credits (CFU, Crediti Formativi Universitari – University Educational Credits). 1 CFU equals to 25 hours (1 hour = 60 minutes) of total work for the student (for clinical practices, 20 hours of practical activity and 5 of personal reworking). UNIVERSITÀ DEGLI STUDI DI NAPOLI FEDERICO II – SCUOLA DI MEDICINA E CHIRURGIA The preclinical basic sciences, taught during the earlier years, provide the knowledge of the biological sciences aimed at the understanding of the human body’s structure and functionality in normal health conditions. The strictly-speaking clinical and methodological medical practice is taught during the ensuing years through extensive use of tutorial learning, with a practical approach to problem-solving.
7 Medicine and Surgery: Clinical Practice Activities Erasmus and exchange students can take advantage of two kinds of clinical practice activities: 1. Attività Formative Professionalizzanti (AFP, Professional Training Activities): part of the integrated courses, can be chosen as separate activities. Usually, they provide 1 (20 hours of activity + 5 of personal reworking) or 2 (40+10 hours) credits. UNIVERSITÀ DEGLI STUDI DI NAPOLI FEDERICO II – SCUOLA DI MEDICINA E CHIRURGIA 2. Erasmus Clinical Clerkships: specifically tailored for international students, provide 5 (100+25 hours) or 10 (200+50 hours) credits. Students fulfilling the Erasmus for traineeship mobility are free to choose the clinics and number of weeks they wish to attend (subject to availability).

For their contents, always refer to the «father» integrated course (for example, Malattie Cutanee e Veneree is a module of the Immunologia Clinica e Allergologia, Malattie Cutanee e Veneree, Chirurgia Plastica integrated course). Practical Courses Clinical practices can be fulfilled from October to July, without any semester restriction; If you choose an integrated course, its AFP are already included, so you don’t have to specify them separately; Example: 18666: Malattie dell’apparato cardiovascolare e respiratorio; U1301: AFP – Malattie dell’apparato cardiovascolare e respiratorio -> NO! In the case of single modules or single AFP (not choosing the related integrated course), you can specify them with their own code: Example: 02443: Chirurgia vascolare (which is a single module!); U1301: AFP – Malattie dell’apparato cardiovascolare e respiratorio -> OK! It is possible to combine AFP and Erasmus Clinical Clerkships, even if related to the same subject. Example: U1301: AFP – Malattie dell’apparato cardiovascolare e respiratorio; U3139: Erasmus Clinical Clerkship – Malattie dell’apparato cardiovascolare e respiratorio -> OK!
9 Medicine and Surgery: Schedules & Timetables Organizzazione didattica del Corso di Laurea Magistrale in Medicina e Chirurgia: general academic schedule. First-semester courses are taught from October to December, second-semester courses from March to May. UNIVERSITÀ DEGLI STUDI DI NAPOLI FEDERICO II – SCUOLA DI MEDICINA E CHIRURGIA ADF = Attività Didattiche Frontali (face-to-face learning activities) ADI = Attività Didattiche Interattive (interactive learning activities) AFP = Attività Formative Professionalizzanti (professional training activities) Each course is delivered through two or more classes (canali, channels), based on the personal student number (matricola). Student number and PIN code is provided by the International Relations Office after your registration. Canale A (Matricole pari) = Even matriculation numbers (e.g. 0001/12344) Canale B (Matricole dispari) = Odd matriculation numbers (e.g. 0001/12579) Examinations are allowed only after the complete and correct attendance of the related course. Tests are written and oral or oral only. Three examination sessions are provided (winter: January/March, summer: May/July, fall: September/November). It is possible to sign up for a maximum of two dates per session. The final evaluation will be registered in your records digitally: always bring your student number and PIN code with you. Aule prenotate esami: scheduled exam classroom and time (click on the code under Aule on your right). In Italian Universities, grades are given on the basis of 30 points. When the student’s performance is considered outstanding, a cum laude can be added by the committee. The minimum passing grade is 18/30.
