C4I Integrity Award Dr. Anthony Fauci T he Coalition for Integrity is honored to present this year’s Integrity Award to Dr. Anthony Fauci, the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Fauci has served as the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984. In that capacity, he has advised presidents of both political parties. His long career has placed him at the tip of the spear in response to numerous public health crises, including the HIV/AIDS epidemic of the 1980s, the swine flu pandemic of 2009, the Ebola outbreak of 2014, and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Fauci has exhibited exceptional integrity, leadership, and a commitment to service throughout his career. During the Ebola outbreak, he personally treated an infected patient at the National Institutes of Health, saying he did not want to ask his staff to do anything he wouldn’t do himself. Many HIV/AIDS activists have praised him for tirelessly working to save lives at the height of the epidemic in the 1980s—actions he took long before many others in government and society. However, his work in the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is particularly laudable. Early on in this crisis, when public knowledge of the disease and its effects was low, Dr. Fauci quickly became the most credible spokesman. In order to educate the public on what precautions needed to be taken, and ultimately combat the disease, Dr. Fauci had to cut through a difficult mix of negative trends in public trust and a never-ending tide of misinformation Dr. Fauci has maintained credibility and trust at a time when it is desperately needed. In his role, he has acted with honesty and transparency in his frequent communications with the American people. It is with great admiration that we present him with this year’s Integrity Award.
C4I Corporate Leadership Award The Procter & Gamble Company T he Coalition for Integrity 2020 Corporate Leadership Award is presented to The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) to honor its commitment to good corporate citizenship and anti-corruption. P&G serves nearly five billion people every day with leading brands for health, personal hygiene, and household cleaning, which improve the lives of consumers and help care for families around the world. At the same time, P&G takes sustained action focused on doing good for society as a corporate citizen. This includes policies to implement good governance, respect human rights, do the right thing for employees, consumers and suppliers and encourage open communication. P&G expects its external business partners to abide by similar policies through its External Business Partner Guidelines. As a global company, P&G maintains a Worldwide Business Conduct Manual, which articulates the global standards it expects with respect to daily business activities and legal and ethical responsibilities. The Manual applies to all employees and members of the Board of Directors, regardless of location, seniority level, business unit, function, or region, as well as suppliers and other business partners where applicable. P&G’s compliance programs are designed to integrate with its business practices and priorities. Its anticorruption program reinforces both the legal and human costs of bribery, helping employees understand that bribery harms not only P&G but also the communities in which it does business. Detailed antibribery training—designed especially for employees with roles having more frequent contact with government officials—offers practical tips to detect and prevent improper influence and underscores the toll that corruption takes on society. To promote compliance, P&G has a third-party hotline for employees and others to report known or suspected violations of law, the Worldwide Business Conduct Manual and company policy. Building upon a set of articulated principles, P&G has worked to support consumers and communities through unexpected challenges, and the events of 2020 offered further proof of these vital efforts. During this global pandemic, the Company began manufacturing masks, face shields, and hand sanitizer, to support the Company’s operations making essential health, hygiene and cleaning products, as well as to share with hospitals, health care facilities and relief organizations. It has also supported more than 200 NGOs, agencies and some of the world’s leading relief organizations with cash, product and in-kind donations of tens of millions of dollars across over 50 brands in more than 55 countries, as well as financial support to ensure aid groups can provide hygiene education, medical equipment, and essential supplies, among other immediate needs. P&G is a member of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste, the FTSE4Good Index, and the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, and is also a part of the Task Force on Climate Related Financial Disclosures, the Global Reporting Initiative, the World Resources Institute/ World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WRI/WBCSD) GHG protocol and many other social and environmental coalitions.
