THE SUMMIT SERIES 2020 At Moving Ahead we believe in sharing stories, and sharing stories at scale! Over the years we’ve continually developed and expanded how we share stories. We are constantly driven to seek out different and fascinating perspectives, as well as ways to share them with more people, in a really inclusive way. International Women’s Day, International Men’s Day and National Inclusion Week are special moments that allow us to do this, and part of the inspiration behind our Summit Series. The other part is the main stage TED events I’ve had the privilege of attending. THE SUMMIT SERIES 2020 The Summit Series at a glance What is the Summit Series? The Summit Series is an annual calendar of four large-scale TED-type speaker events by Moving Ahead and Women Ahead: THE AGENCY AND ADVOCACY SUMMIT March, to celebrate September, to celebrate November, to celebrate International Women’s Day National Inclusion Week International Men’s Day The Summit Series is an opportunity to share inspirational stories and insights at scale. Whether live in the audience or watching online, the half-day format gives participants an opportunity to switch off, listen and be inspired by world-class storytellers and subject- matter experts, and to take lessons and learnings back into their lives and organisations. What is the format of the summits? Each summit is typically a half-day event, beginning mid-morning and ending in the early evening with drinks and networking. To keep energy and engagement high, we alternate three types of content: short TED-type talks of around 12–18 minutes, in which a single speaker presents a story, perspective or how-to, either live on stage or a professionally recorded keynote film; fireside panel conversations by a group of subject-matter experts, typically 20–30 minutes in length, and live creative performances, e.g., dance or poetry. Who can participate in a Summit? Everyone! As a specialist diversity and inclusion social impact organisation, we aim to make our events as inclusive as possible. There are a limited number of seats in the auditorium, so each summit is professionally filmed. We share the films in two ways: 01. As a whole event film broadcast 24-hours after the event 02. As single, professionally edited TED-type films of each keynote and panel The films are available for participating summit partners and their organisations, and are ideal for screening at internal and network events. More than 17,000 individuals logged in to watch the broadcast of 2019’s Gender Balance Summit, and we estimate that more than 100,000 have watched the films since. For more information about participating in a summit, please see page 6. 2
