In 2020 General Motors announced it would be the end of the Holden name and vehicles. Personally I think Holden died in 2017 when the Holden Elizabeth plant closed. With this announcement that meant that no Holden, Australian Ford or an Australian Chrysler were ever going to be produced in Australia again. Such a pity as Australia produced some great vehicles. The Holden Monaro and Torana Ford GTHO Phase 1,2, and 3s and of course the Chrysler Charger that was the fastest production car produced in its day. But alas those days are gone except for the die hard enthusiasts that have kept them on the street. So to mark the end of an era SMASA invited all Holden, Ford and Chrysler owners to meet up for a cruise. The cruise was not only for those Marques but open to all. It was a great turn out and a tribute to the once great thriving motoring industry in Australia. The one good thing is plenty of SMASA members have kept the big three still alive. This was the second Coffee n Chrome for Hot Rods. This meet was also the first meet since the passing of founding member Bill. It was a sombre event but it was also a time to enjoy the event. It was Bill’s vision to see car enthusiasts to gather together and enjoy each others company and cars. Not only was this meet full of Hot Rods but on the grass opposite were a group of vintage cars. One vintage car that was a centre of attraction was the green trike with the engine on the front wheel. All the other cars were very nice as well. So if you missed this event the next few pages have a few pics for you to enjoy.
December Cruise
The weather was fine and the at the time we were COVID 19 free. There was a great turnout of Holdens and Chevs at the annual cruise. The car park was filling quickly and there was a great array of Holdens from all eras. And Chevs from all eras as well. After parking up and getting the camera it was time to check out the drives and it great to see lots of SMASA T shirts in the crowd. The cars just kept on coming in and Holden and Chev fans could not get enough of them. There were stock drives, Aussie and US Muscle cars and some sweet modified ones and a few Hot Rods. Something for everyone. As always there were kids checking out the drives and I enjoy the way they get excited when they see something they really like. It was great that they respected the cars and just looked at them. All in all it was a great meet and cruise so stay tuned and watch out for next years Holden and Chev Cruise 2021.
