Introduction For over 10 years, PEAK HSC has grown a reputable name for itself with many of our students excelling in their HSC. Our goal is to help our students reach their full potential by encouraging them to develop a dedicated attitude to learning. Our tutors are highly experienced and have performed exceptionally well in their HSC, with most having achieved the highest band possible in Physics and Chemistry and scoring an ATAR above 99. We take the time and effort to ensure that consistent content is effectively taught across all classes in a simple yet sophisticated manner. All tutors continually assess and monitor their students’ understanding of key concepts and track their progress through quizzes and topic tests to assess their ongoing progress each term. We also have expectations that our students will be committed towards performing at a consistently high level. If there are any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us directly.
Our Classes Our program is specially tailored to follow the new NESA Physics and Chemistry syllabuses introduced in 2018. All course material that we produce are overlooked by a qualified high school science head teacher to ensure all the requirements of the syllabus are met. Our program commences at least a term ahead of school so that our students can take the time to learn, practice and master concepts under the guidance of our experienced team, giving them a competitive advantage over their peers in school. We provide class notes that address concepts to a standard BEYOND that of the syllabus itself. We provide professionally written material that come with detailed marking criteria and fully worked solutions. We provide quizzes, assignments and examinations that assess students’ understanding and critical thinking. We provide a series of FREE mini-exam and revision lessons to sufficiently prepare students right before their HSC exam*. *4 x 2hr revision lessons, once per week, across the 4 weeks of September after students have finished their trial exams in school. They are free but strictly reserved for Year 12 PEAK students only.

For any absences in the previous term due to permissible reasons (such as a family or medical emergency) and where the student did not attend a make-up class for, students are allowed a maximum of: • 2 x $40 credits per term* (one subject); OR • 2 x $35 credits per subject per term* (both subjects). To claim the credit, we must receive either a medical certificate or verbal confirmation from a parent/guardian (either over the phone or in-person at reception). Students cannot claim a credit for any unexplained or unnecessary absences. For extended periods of absence due to illness, holiday or other special circumstances, students are expected to inform our office to avoid an unexpected termination of their enrolment. In exceptional cases like these, the student may only have to pay for the remainder of the term. All payments to PEAK HSC are non-refundable. If a student wishes to claim a refund, they must: • attend until the end of term, • transfer the refund to their other subject (physics or chemistry), • transfer the refund to another student at PEAK HSC; or • forfeit the amount paid. If you have any questions or concerns in regard to our fees and policy, please do not hesitate to contact us. *Year 12 students cannot claim a credit for any absences in their final term (Term 3). They are expected to attend all 10 weeks in the lead-up to their HSC exam.

Rules and Expectations In class: ✓ Respect your tutors and peers. ✓ Pay attention and always put in your best effort. ✓ Ask questions when you need something clarified. ✓ Do not eat or drink anything other than water. At home: ✓ Complete homework with a thorough and serious attempt and hand it in when requested. ✓ If unable to complete homework for any reason, notify your tutor as soon as possible. During exams: ✓ Sit and make a valid and diligent attempt for all exams. ✓ If unable to attend an exam for any reason, notify our office as soon as possible and arrange a time and day to sit it before your next scheduled class the following week.
Homework Policy Students are given homework on a regular basis by their tutor. This is to ensure that they develop a strong work ethic and consolidate their understanding of classwork. Each worksheet has a combination of foundation and development questions which test basic knowledge and problem-solving skills respectively. Although all homework questions should be completed and handed in for marking the following week, there will be some situations where students may fail to submit homework or homework that is not completed to a satisfactory level. This may be due to a number of reasons such as: • illness, • completing school assessments, • lack of understanding; or • poor time management/work ethic. Peak HSC has a comprehensive homework policy to ensure that an appropriate course of action can be undertaken to deal with these situations. Students should be aware that homework may be deemed unsatisfactory if: • it has not been submitted by the due date and the student did not provide a satisfactory explanation; or • it has already been submitted but was deemed incomplete after being marked.
There are two important categories of action when students cannot complete homework satisfactorily: 1. Homework Exemptions (HEs) where a student knows that they have an upcoming assessment and would like to request an extra week to complete homework. Students must contact their tutor before their next scheduled class and provide a proof of their school assessment notification to receive approval from their tutor. A student is allowed a maximum of two HEs per subject per year. 2. Formal Warnings (FWs) where a student has exhausted their HEs, not provided adequate notice to their tutors, or repeatedly failed to complete their homework properly. The student’s parents/guardians will be notified, and a serious penalty be handed out. Students must understand that receiving one or more FWs is extremely serious and will affect their enrolment at PEAK HSC. In any situation where students are absent from their scheduled class, they should notify their tutor immediately as a courtesy.
Parking It has come to our attention that there has been an increasing number of unauthorised vehicles parking in the private parking area behind PEAK HSC, regardless of the time of day. Furthermore, complaints have been made regarding parents simply stopping at the gate to let their children out of the car as well as double parking along Torrens Street. If this continues, we risk losing our lease and will have to relocate. As PEAK HSC shares the building with other businesses, we must respect their wishes first so we would like to remind you that parking or simply leaving the car unattended is NOT permitted in the parking lot behind our centre (for which there are plenty of public parking spaces close by to use instead.) The whole premise will be locked when all staff leave so any vehicles parked in the private parking lot will be towed away at the vehicle owner’s expense. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.
