Welcome Participants!
Baseball and Softball are two closely related sports, played by
ten thousands of people in The Netherlands. And as you may
know, many Dutch baseball and softball teams, but also a
number of Dutch players are very successful in European, World
and Olympic competition games.
We are “Baseball & Softball Club Almere'90”. A Dutch City club.
The name says a lot about us. Our club is based in: Almere.
A brand new city grounded in 1976 on new land conquered from
the sea. Five yards below sea level. A unique world wonder.
Our city has over 200.000 citizens. Our club counts about
250 members, a pretty clubhouse, a gym + 6 beautiful fields,
where young & old play with a lot of enthusiasm!
Since 2014 our club BSC Almere’90 offers the possibility to play
SLOWPITCH! An exciting and booming variation of softball.
A game that already counts many enthusiastic senior players.
Since 2014, and again in 2019, we are very honoured again to
be: ‘Host of the Windmill Classic’. The international Slowpitch
Softball tournament at the 28th, 29th + 30th of June 2019!
With this information booklet we would like to inform you just a
little bit more about our club, of which we are so very proud.
We look forward to welcome you. And we also hope that this
wonderful event will be played in Almere for many years to come.

Welcome to the 6th edition of the
Windmill Classic Slowpitch Tournament !
Our aim is to provide an environment with a lot of pleasure and
games, where sportsmanship and a fun filled weekend is our
main priority. In this booklet we present the most important
tournament details, rules and regulations.
Please ensure you read through all the information provided
and ensure your team members are aware of the tournament
and site rules.

your questions and help out with any issues or problems. You
can recognize them by the red WMC t-shirts.

History of BSC Almere‘90
The club is established in 1982 as the “Polmerians”. At that time
in city history the Base- and Softball fields were located @ the
‘Klein-Brandt’ playground. In 1990 we moved to our present
location at Fanny Blankers Koen sport park. Also the
club name was changed to Baseball & Softball Club Almere'90.
Present situation
Nowadays we have 250 members, this makes BSC Almere'90
one of the largest baseball and softball clubs in the Netherlands.
We have 22 teams playing in the national competition of the
Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Federation (Koninklijke
Nederlandse Baseball en Softball Bond). Most of our teams are
youth teams.
Almere is a young city!
Almere’90 has teams playing in various leagues in the Dutch
national competitions:
➢ Senior league Softball (Men)
➢ Youth league Softball (Girls)
➢ Senior league Baseball (Men)
➢ Youth league Baseball (Boys)
➢ Bee-Ball league (Boys and Girls under 8 years).
We are proud that many of our youth teams compete in the
highest divisions. Both our senior Softball women and senior
Baseball men compete at the top level in the Dutch
fastpitch league.
From 2014 BSC Almere’90 offers Slowpitch softball as well. A
great variation of softball introduced by the KNBSB in 2013.

International Slowpitch Tournament
The last weekend of June 2019 (Friday 28th, Saturday 29th,
Sunday 30th June), BSC Almere’90 is hosting the ‘Windmill
Classic’ again. The biggest, largest, greatest International
Slowpitch Softball tournament throughout Europe!
This awesome sports event will be taking place at our beautiful
club location. With almost 40 participating International teams
from Germany, Portugal, Austria, Slovenia, Portugal, Belgium,
Switzerland, England, Wales, Ireland, USA, The Netherlands.
The ‘Windmill Classic 2019’ event is exclusively organized by
BSC Almere’90. A gigantic event with around 450-500 players,
camping in over 100 tents. Hundreds of spectators are
expected during the 3 tournament days. And, last but not
least, the many club volunteers. They make all of it possible!
On Saturday night, there will be the ´exhibition´ MIXED game
between Team USA All Stars and Team European All Stars.
Both Friday and Saturday night there will be Live music and as
usual there will be all kinds of food and drink available throughout
the weekend.

Tournament details
Entrance Fee
The entrance fee is € 240,00 and needs to be paid before June
1st. A full refund is possible until June 1st, in case a team
withdraws between June 1st and June 15th 50% of the entrance
fee will be refunded. Withdraws after June 15th or in case of a
no show there will be no refund.
Coaches/captains meeting on Saterday at 08h00 AM !
The coaches/captains meeting is on Saturday at 08h00 AM.
➢ This will be the last possible moment to hand over the
playerslist (team roster) to the officials. Pease note players
can be on only 1 roster!
➢ During this meeting the draw for the men’s double
elimination will take place as well.
If necessary an additional captains meeting will be held on
Sunday 07h30 AM. Necessity of this meeting will be determined
and communicated on Saturday.
Balls and other equipment
Below specified Slowpitch balls are required
according to ASA (USA Softball) rules:
Men must use a yellow optic cover, red stitch 12” ball, with a
COR of .52 and a compression of 300.
Women must use a yellow optic cover, red stitch 11” ball
with a COR of .52 and a compression of 300.
Mixed/Coed Teams must use both kinds of balls (M/W).
Balls can be purchased during the tournament.

Bats
Only ASA (USA Softball) bats are allowed in the WMC games.
It must have a safety grip (no smooth tape) and must be free of
rough or sharp edges.
Shoes
No metal cleats are allowed during the tournament.
Pitcher mask
As a player safety issue, a mask is mandatory for pitchers.
Team roster
Before the start of the tournament teams have to deliver a team
roster / playerslist with names, date of birth and gender
information (for coed and mixed) of each player.
Players can be on only 1 roster and therefor play for one team
only. Exceptions on this are possible according to the rules for
borrowing players or by the decision of the WMC committee.

Tournament rules and regulations WMC 2019
Men’s competition
For the ´round-robin´ all Men´s teams of the WMC play 4 games
in the round-robin on Saturday. For the double elimination (DE)
on Sunday the ranking will be determined by blind draw. The
blind draw will take place at the captains meeting on Saturday.
Mixed, Co-ed & Women competition
For the double elimination the ranking will be determined by the
winning percentage (see ranking system).
The WMC playing rules are based on the latest ASA
(USA Softball) Slow Pitch rules.
In this booklet the most important rules are emphasized.
For any other rules that are not covered in this document
the ASA (USA Softball) rules are enforced.
Independent umpires are provided by the WMC
organisation, in some cases teams will be asked to
provide an umpire. In such cases it is our objective team
umpires will only be used for round robin games. Double
elimination games and finals will be led by an
independent umpire, if available.
Bunting or chopping down on the ball is not allowed, and
will result in a dead ball with the batter being called out.
The duration of a game is 1 hour. The umpire will
announce the starting time.
For the round robin games: after 1 hour the last full
played inning is determinative for the end score. After 50
minutes, no new inning will be started.
For the DE games: after 50 minutes no new inning will be
started, and a started inning will be completed.
Tied games are allowed during the round robin. For the
double elimination a winner must be determined.
Forfeit game: Teams must be ready to play and need to
be at the field within 5 minutes of the scheduled time.
In case a team forfeits the score will be 0-7 in favour of
the opponent.
Blood rule – any player bleeding or with an open wound
must leave the field and have the wound properly
dressed before returning to the field of play.
10In case of bad weather the format and the schedule of the
tournament can change.
- In case of severe rain on Saturday the DE may be
determined by blind draw for all divisions.
- In case of rain on Sunday the double elimination may be
changed into a single elimination.
Schedule changes are up to the WMC committee, but are
(if possible) open for discussion with the teams involved.
If a player (or team) is ejected from a game, it will be up to
WMC committee to determine if they are also suspended
for the remainder of the tournament.
Home team (as long as it not changed in the tournament
schedule):
- Round Robin: home team is as mentioned in the
schedule.
- Double Elimination (Mixed / Co-ed / Women): for
winners bracket higher seed; losers bracket coin flip.
- Double Elimination (Men): the home team will be
determined by coin flip.
- Championship game: team from winners bracket HOME,
“If game” reverse.
The home team will provide the balls during the game.
Game results: the home team needs to keep the score of
the game. All scores will have to be texted to +31 6 53 80
33 62 (Erika) and +31 6 451 44 451 (Jos). In your text
mention the division, the home team, the away team and
the score.
If a score is not delivered to the game staff (Erika and Jos)
within 15 minutes after the game the score will be 0-7 in
favour of the away team.
Protests need to be addressed directly (during the games,
when both teams are still on the playing field) to the plate
umpire. No protest can be made after the game.
11GUEST PLAYERS
In case of injuries a team can have up to 3 guest players
from other teams.
A guest player is not allowed to pitch.
Guest players can only be borrowed from a “lower
division” according below ranking. For Co-ed teams
players can be borrowed from within the division.
Division order for borrowing players:
1. Men, 2. Mixed, 3. Co-ed.
Players U18 and Women are allowed to play for every
division.
IMPORTANT: The umpire has to be informed about any
guest player before the game.
A team may only use the same borrowed player for two
games during the tournament.
Any exceptions need to be discussed with the WMC
committee in advance. Failure to comply may result in the
forfeit of the game.
12RANKING SYSTEM
Ranking for group selection: blind draw.
For the Men’s division the double elimination ranking will
be determined by a blind draw as well. The blind draw will
take place at the captains meeting on Saturday.
For the Mixed, Co-ed and Women´s division the double
elimination ranking is based on:
1. Winning percentage (games / wins) of round robin
games. A won games gives 2 point, a tied game 1.
2. Head to head
3. Runs made
4. Runs allowed
5. Coin flip
Final tournament ranking
The tournament ranking is based on:
1. When a team drops out of the double elimination
2. If two teams drop out at the same time the ranking will be
determined by
a. Winning percentage (games / wins) of all games of
the tournament.
b. Head to head
c. Runs made
d. Runs allowed
e. Coin flip
In all unforeseen situations the WMC committee will
decide.
13SPECIAL ‘WINDMILL CLASSIC’ TOURNAMENT FEATURES
• The Exhibition Game!
On Saturday evening. A MIXED Team of USA All Stars will
be playing vs a MIXED Team of European All Stars. Starting
Time will be 20h30.
Accidents
Unfortunately every year accidents happen during the Windmill
happen. For minor injuries we have FIRST AID volunteers on
site. In case anyone has to go to the medical center or hospital,
a proof of personal insurance may be required and also a credit
card may be needed to pay the medical bills.
14Food, Drinks & Daily Business
Food and drinks will be available throughout the day, either
from the counter of the clubhouse (also for snacks and sweets)
or from the various selling points around the field.
Hot American Breakfast
Buffet will be available from the counter of the clubhouse from
07:00 hours till about 09:00 hours.
Around Lunchtime the Stokes BBQ (http://www.stokesbbq.nl)
is ready to serve you a wide variety of good foods.
BBQ is THERE! From 12:00 till late at night you can enjoy all
your favorites: Burgers, spareribs, fish and many other dishes.
PIZZA’s are on the Stokes Windmill Classic menu as well.
ICE CREAM will be available during
all days.
DUTCH ‘POFFERTJES’ (mini
crepes) are available again as well.
HOW TO PAY DURING THE TOURNAMENT?
• Payment during the WMC is only possible with tokens,
which can be purchased at the info-stand. During
breakfast tokens can be purchased at the canteen.
15House Rules
In order to make the most of this beautiful weekend we would
like you to keep the following in mind:
• Showers and toilets are directly at the fields and will be
open 24hrs. A short break will be taken during the day to
clean the rest + locker rooms, the showers and the toilets
• If you bring your own drinks (bottles, cans) (and/or alcohol)
please don’t bring them into the clubhouse or anywhere on
the facility, keep them at your camping site only
• Camping will be in designated areas and there will be family
friendly areas.
• Please refrain from profanity, there are children present.
• A bouncy Windmill will be available for kids to play. Parents
will be responsible for their own kids, please don’t leave
your kids unattended. Keep an eye on them!
• Activities for the kids will be organized daily. Kids under the
age of 8 must be accompanied by their parents
• Fire pits are not allowed.
• For the smokers: next to the food court there will be a
designated smoking zone. Smoking is allowed only in this
designated area or outside the gate.
• No grills will be allowed at the facility at any time. This goes
for the parking lot as well.
• The facility is guarded 24 hours.
• If you have a question during the tournament: address
them to the volunteers at the Infostand or the tournament
staff in the red shirts.
16TOYS for KIDS
Every year we ask you to make a contribution to our charity in
the form some toys. This year our charity is the:
“VoedselLoket Almere”
The food Counter Almere (VLA) is set up for the people of
Almere who cannot provide in their basic needs themselves.
In addition to food and clothing the VLA also
supports families with children with toys.
Therefor we ask you to bring (new) toys
(preferably no stuffed animals)
