Become a Member of the Friends and help support the activities here at the William D. Ford Senior Center. Friends of the Ford Senior Center is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization dedicated to financially supporting the senior center in its efforts to serve older adults and surrounding communities. Meetings are the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 9:30 am (with the exception of the month June and July) 2022 FFSC Board Members President ~ Jerry Reinstein Vice President~ Jennifer Klunge Treasurer ~Bernard Jenkins Secretary~ Marsha Dotson Board Member~ Shirley Doom AGING COMMISSION Aging Commission Board Members Shirley Doom, Bernard Jenkins, Barbara Kotarsky, Arlene Mohr,Pat Woolley The Aging Commission investigates needs of senior citizens, suggest programs and services specifically to serve seniors and provides public information regarding the center and its services. Please submit any suggestions or issues to the front desk to present to the Commission. Meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. (with the exception of the months of June and July) Intake forms should be on file for Everyone, no exceptions! Information collected is for Emergency purposes ONLY! If any information regarding your In-take or emergency contact has changed it is your responsibility to contact the office. Intake forms must be completed to participate in trips or classes at the center.

Self Health screening we ask that you do a self health assessment prior to entering the facility, should you feel ill or have a fever, please do not enter the facility. We strive to keep the center a healthy and safe environment for all. Before you enter, please ensure you can answer NO to each of these questions. Do you have any of the following symptoms? Fever of 100.1 or higher? Cough (Excluding chronic cough)? Shortness of breath? Sore throat or new loss of smell or taste? Vomiting/diarrhea? (excluding diarrhea due to medical reason, other than COVID-19) Repeated shaking or chills? Engaged in activity or non-routine travel within the past 14 days in an area with high COVID-19 positive cases HELP STOP the spread of germs we ask that you help us all work together to keep our center a safe and healthy environment. Please practice good hygiene, wash your hands frequently with soap & water, and stay home if you are feeling ill.
Transportation Services Doctor Appointments Monday- Friday *Excludes Holidays Transportation from 8:30 a.m. -1:00 p.m. Appointments that will go past the time of 1:00 p.m. will require you to provide your own transportation home. There is a $2.00 flat fee for pick up and drop off at home. Please be ready 1 hour prior to your appointment time for transportation pick up. ** Doctors office must be located in the City of Taylor SHOPPING SCHEDULE Please be ready by 7:15 a.m. for pick up and only buy what you can carry in one trip to the bus. Drivers do not help with loading or unloading your purchases. If you cancel after hours, please leave a message CALL (313) 291-7740 TO SCHEDULE A 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE APPOINTMENT. MONDAY~ Meijer WEDNESDAY~ Walmart FRIDAY~ Kroger Inclement Weather! Please note if the Taylor School District is closed due to inclement weather, all transportation services will be canceled. We are a curb to curb service, you must be able to get on/ off the bus, and to your location with no assistance from the bus driver. All transportation services require a 24 hour or more notice. Reservations are required, you must speak to someone in the office directly to make an appointment. **WE DO NOT DO SAME DAY RESERVATIONS IF YOU HAVE 3 NO SHOWS IN A 30 DAY PERIOD, THE CENTER HAS THE RIGHT TO SUSPEND SERVICE FOR 30 DAYS. ** WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REQUIRE SOMEONE TO ASSIST YOU OR DENY SERVICE IF WE FEEL YOUR SAFETY OR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS IS AT RISK. IF A CAREGIVER IS NEEDED, THEY MUST BE OVER 18 YEARS OF AGE.
Transportation Services NEED A RIDE? Transportation will be offered to City of Taylor Residents Monday-Friday City of Taylor residents, transportation will be offered to the center for classes, bingo, card playing, fitness room, pool room, ping pong room & or any other activities offered at the center. *A 24 hour reservation is required , must call and speak with the office to secure your ride. Pick up times ~8:30a.m./ 11:30a.m. Drop off times ~ 11:45 a.m./ 2:30p.m. Restaurant Trip Policies If you are feeling ill, please stay home Round Up Mask must be worn on the bus at all times Ticket sales begin the first Monday of each month Taylor residents ONLY first week of sales Non-residents second week of sales Ticket purchaser is allowed ONLY one additional ticket purchase and ID will be required for all purchases for both Taylor residents and Non- residents. Departure 11:00a.m. Refund Policy~ Ticket refunds will not be Return 1:30p.m. allowed after trip deadline. No refunds day of trip Tuesday February 15th, 2022 Tickets will not be held, payment is due at time of Cost:$2.00 & your own tab at restaurant purchase. STAYING FIT Registration WINTER CLASSES Begins Classes start the week of January 10th - January 3rd Classes end the week of March 28th, Taylor residents -$15; Non-residents - $30 (unless otherwise noted) **No classes on January 17th; February 21st Yoga for Health & Fitness Tuesday & Thursday, 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. No Cost No instructor—students follow yoga instructor on CD This ultimate workout will help you equalize blood pressure, aid in controlling diabetes, stress elimination and relaxation, detoxifies and repairs internal organs, helps digestion, promotes anti-aging process, rejuvenates the entire body, provides cardio and circulation benefits, provides toning, shaping and building muscle. *Bring a thick mat, wear loose clothes & a bottle of water Good Health & Exercise Monday & Wednesday, 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. (12 weeks) Instructor: Josie Filek Cost: $15-Taylor/$30-Non-resident Class size: Limited to 50 Josie is a certified fitness & health & wellness instructor. In this class you will be taught about the components that go into being healthy & learn to nourish yourself in all areas of your life. Topic discussed are nutrition, exercise, sleep, relationships, brain health, balance & so much more. Josie invites you personally to join her on Mondays & Wednesdays 12:00-1:00 pm TaijiFit Wednesday, 10:00-11:00 am (OR) Fridays 11:15 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Instructor: Kim Batko *Please pay instructor directly $20.00 (4 weeks) $6.00 Drop In TaijiFit is a mind/body “exercise” that combines the best of traditional Tai Chi with modern Western fitness. It’s a workout appropriate for any age or fitness level– and has you experiencing the FLOW of Tai Chi whether it’s your first class or 100th. Line Dancing Thursdays -10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Moving to Activity Bldg. located in Heritage Park Instructor: Marion Baxter, Marlene Harmon *Please pay instructor/$1 per class Learn popular country line dances one step at a time. Have fun and exercise at the same time. For those who have some line dancing experience but want to add more steps, this class is for you! Senior Aerobics Volunteers: Jim & Donna Gueli Tuesdays 10:45-11:45a.m. Fridays 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. *All year round No Cost Come join Jim & Donna as they volunteer to get already active seniors moving, all are welcome to join and enjoy the benefits of working out in a group!

If you want to accurately start on your quilt, stop by and pick up the list of supplies you will need. (Colors may be changed to suit your choice.) Basic instruction in getting started with machine quilting. Materials will be furnished for first class only. Advanced Quilting Friday, 12:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m. *Limited to 12 students Cost: $15-Taylor/$30-Non-resident Instructor: Sherry Berryhill Instructions in more complex block making. Special cutting and piecing techniques will be featured. Beginning Stained Glass Thursday, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. (12 Weeks) Cost: $15-Taylor/$30-Non-resident Instructor: Conrad Heidt Learn the basics of the copper foil method. You will learn how to use the tools of the trade and how to select the right glass for your project. Instruction in the basics of creating wonderful objects from stained glass. Materials for the first class provided. Students will be responsible for cost of materials for any other projects. *Supplies may be purchased from the instructor. Advanced Stained Glass Thursday, 12:00 p.m. -3:00 p.m. (12 weeks) Cost: $15-Taylor/$30-Non-resident Instructor: Conrad Heidt Come join this fun class and bring out your artistic side by creating beautiful things with stained glass. *Tools and supplies are extra and may be purchased from the instructor. *Beginning Stain Glass skills are necessary.
