PUBLIC HEALTH IS WHERE YOU ARE NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK National Public Health Week is April 4-10, 2022. This year's theme is: Public Health is Where You Are. Where we live impacts our communities' health. Knowing this helps us determine how we can help make our communities healthier, stronger, and safer. This highlights the truth that the places where we are: physically, mentally, and societally can affect our health. The focus of this week is to learn more about what we can do as communities to protect and prioritize the work of public health. Public health promotes and protects the health of people and the communities where they live, learn, and play. Public health aims to prevent people from getting sick and promote wellness by encouraging healthy behaviors. Focuses of National Public Health Week 2022 Having support and feeling included within the community can have a positive effect on our mental and physical health. Barriers can make it harder for some people to find public health resources available close to them. Barriers can include physical, mental, financial, cultural, and language barriers. Some communities may have a harder time than others finding and using health resources. It is important to listen to communities of color, the LGBTQ+ community, and people with disabilities to make sure public health available to all. PAGE EIGHT |BBRHN NEWSLETTER Source: nphw.org
