After completing this course, participants will be able to: • Identify the criteria for appropriate use of IV catheters, including the MAGIC guidelines and describe their best use in clinical practice. • D escribe the risks and management strategies for pulmonary disease complications in hospitalized patients. • S ummarize best practices for managing thromboembolism and stroke in hospitalized patients. • D escribe approaches for improving the care of hospitalized patients requiring dialysis, with acute kidney injury, or correction of electrolyte abnormalities. • S ummarize best practices for managing congestive heart failure and hypertension in hospitalized patients, and discuss the role of perioperative troponin assessment in the risk stratification of these patients. • D escribe effective pain management strategies and effective ways to prevent and treat acute delirium in hospitalized patients.
