Grade 12 Parent Information Evening SEPTEMBER 28 TH , 2021 MR. DAVID CRAIK & MS. SAMRA -GYNANE I would like to thank the Coast Salish people, specifically the Skwxwú7mesh Nation and Tsleil-Waututh Nation, upon whose unceded traditional territory the North Vancouver School District resides. Grad Banquet • Friday, June 17th, 2022 at the Westin Bayshore Hotel • Tickets will be approximately $135 per person for an evening with dinner and dancing • On sale in spring for both students and parents
Grad Commencement Ceremony • Saturday, June 25th, 2022 (evening) at the Orpheum Theatre • Gown measurements will be taken in the fall • Students do not need a ticket to enter and are provided with 2 free tickets with their Grad Fee. Additional tickets will be $10 per person

Graduation Requirements In order to graduate, the BC Ministry of Education requires students to complete the following: • 52 credits “Required” courses, including Career Life Connections 12 • 28 credits “Elective” courses Go to the BC Ministry of Education website to find out more about the Dogwood diploma and the French immersion/dual Dogwood.
Career Life Connections 12 @ Handsworth Teachers: Ms. O’Connor (A-Gh) & Ms. Schwegler (Gi – Z) CLC12 is a graduation requirement and will be run outside the timetable. To complete the work for CLC12, students will meet as a group two to three times each semester. Assignments will be submitted through Teams. Students met with their teachers for the first time the week of September 20th – they are working on their first assignment. Their next assignment will be signing up for BCeID – this will be how they access their transcripts Students received the list of course assignments with due dates, including the due date of their Capstone project. Students are reminded to ensure they have MS Teams on their phone and to turn on Notifications in Teams so they receive the Teams messages.
DVR -getting the record straight… Diploma Verification Reports (DVR’s) •A document that lists the courses that students have either completed or are enrolled in, with final or interim marks •Purpose of DVR’s: Verify information sent to the Ministry Ensure graduation requirements are met We ask student’s to make sure the information on his/her DVR is accurate (i.e. online courses, extra credits etc) Gr. 12 students have been asked to review their official DVR as their first CLC 12 assignment
Provincial Assessments Current Grade 12 Students in English Program: Must write Numeracy 10 Assessment Must write Literacy 10 Assessment Must write Literacy 12 Assessment Current Grade 12 Students in French Immersion Program must also write: Must write Èvaluation de littérarie (late Jan 2022)
Transcripts Record of successfully completed Grade 10, 11, and 12 courses Student registers on BCeID, then orders transcripts from Student Transcript Services (November deadline recommended). How will my post secondary institute (PSI) receive my transcripts and mid term marks? Most PSI’s have XML (program for PSI’s to automatically access grades) Transcripts can be ordered through STS or follow the link: https://www.sd44.ca/school/handsworth/Students/transcripts/Pages /default.aspx#/= Transcripts are mailed in sealed envelope to student’s home address or sent electronically (CHECK: What does your institution require?)

Post Secondary virtual visits to Handsworth Mr. Craik will host a tutorial time “how to navigate online applications session” in November. Date announced through CLC 12 Teams groups admissions. Some are after school hours, and require that students register before hand.
Applying to BC Post Secondary schools ……. Application deadline varies by school, so double check! • UBC – Jan 15. Holistic Admission Supplemental application required by many post-secondary institution programs might include: Written submission Letter of intent Focus on List of accomplishments Personal References demonstrating Portfolio reflective and Personal profile engaged learning. Reporting & Self Reporting Grades As mentioned - most PSI’s have XML (program for PSI’s to automatically access grades) Some PSIs will require students to self-report their grade 11 and/or 12 grades Some PSIs will only allow the student to self report one time. Some allow updates. You do not need an official transcript to self-report Only completed (and passed) courses will show up on the student transcript Course withdrawn from before final grade is assigned will not appear on transcript Final Marks –sent to universities in July only if you have authorized marks to be sent. Universities may rescind your seat if courses not completed or if marks drop substantially. This is what they mean by “conditional acceptance”.

SFU football) Minimum score 820 on SAT to qualify for NCAA eligibility (www.elegibilitycenter.org) Recommended to write SAT prior to November of your grade 12 year Many American schools are waiving the SAT requirement NCAA has temporarily waived this requirement.
