PEER FUNDRAISING TIP SHEET 1. START WITH A DONATION FROM YOURSELF It’s always a good idea to get your fund raising off to a good start by making $ the first contribution and showing your investment in the organization. This will make others more likely to get involved. 2. ADD YOUR WHY TO THE EMAIL We’ve put together an email template you can use right from your fundraising page. The most important thing you can add to this message is why you are fundraising. Let your family and friends know why The Education Partnership matters to you, that’s what they care about most! 3. START WITH YOUR CLOSE CONTACTS It’s always best to start by emailing your close contacts because they are the most likely to donate. Try sending some quick personal messages to your inner circle to build up some momentum. Then use the email template you customized to reach all of your other contacts. 4. NOW MOVE TO SOCIAL MEDIA Once you’ve sent your first batch of emails out, it’s time to turn to social media. One of the best strategies to use on both Facebook and Twitter is tagging and thanking people that have already donated while you are asking for new donations. This spreads your message further and lets the people you are asking know that people are already getting behind you. 5. REENGAGE WITH EMAIL Don’t hesitate to send a few follow up emails. Emails are easy to overlook and peopleoften open them up quickly and then forget to go back to them. Use email to keep people up to date with your progress as you hit different milestones (50% raised, 75% raised, etc.) and ask supporters to help you hit the next milestone. 6. CONTINUE THANKING AND UPDATING SOCIAL MEDIA As more of your network gets behind you, keep thanking them on social media and make sure you continue to share your progress towards your goal.
Fundraising Ideas: Penny drive: Different Classes/grades complete to see who can bring in the most pennies. Money is worth “points” based on its monetary value. Pennies give your team positive points—while nickels, dimes, quarters, and any dollar bills take points AWAY from the team’s total. Tape to Wall: Tape someone to a wall 1 strip = $1, and if you get enough, your boss, principal or friend gets stuck up on the wall. Bake sale: Parents, students and staff can contribute baked goods for a one-day sale. Children and/or parents can be invited in to buy these treats. Raffle: Sell tickets for the chance to win a particular prize – this could be a basket of goods, a 50/50 draw for cash, or another prize donated by the community or school. Quiz night: Divide participants into teams (or ask them to sign up as teams). Prepare a list of questions based on a particular theme and have a volunteer “Quiz master” who can ask the questions. Sell tickets to participate and offer a prize for the winning team. Bingo: Organize a bingo night and participants can pay local to playkids withdon’t have basic an opportunity for the winners to get small prizes. school supplies. Let’s fix that. Chocolate sales: Set up a themed chocolate sale that with delivery during school / work! Dance-a-thon: Invite students and families to partake in a dance-a-thon. They could collect pledges based on how long they stay on the dance floor! Ensure you have a good playlist of upbeat songs, and consider selling snacks and refreshments for additional cost. Talent show: Showcase the talent of your students and faculty by hosting a talent show. Encourage individual or team participation, and sell tickets for family and friends to watch. Dress down / Jeans day: Ask for a specific, small donation amount for students and teachers to participate in a Dress Down Day where they can wear jeans or comfortable clothing. Multicultural fair: Showcase the many delicious foods and unique talents of your students by hosting an event where students are encouraged to share their cultural traditions with one another. Recipe book: Have students contribute family recipes and create one school-wide recipe book. Sell the book to parents and community members. Battle of the Bands: Audition local talent to battle it out in a fundraising concert. Many may perform for the exposure alone, and you can sell tickets to the event. Be sure to have everyone vote on their favorite and give that band a prize. Movie Night: Sell tickets to a movie on the school’s projector and sell popcorn or other items at a concession stand. Join us: WalkForAHealthyCommunity.org
Email Samples: Hi family, Help us reach every student. I’m writing to let you know that this month I’m walking and fundraising for The Education Partnership during the Highmark Walk on May 11th, 2019. As some of you know, I am a math teacher at Pittsburgh Example and in my spare time, I volunteer for The Education Partnership. The Education Partnership provides school supplies to low-income students and their teacher across Southwestern PA, so their mission is close to my heart. I’ll be asking pretty much everyone I know to visit my page and donate if they can, but I wanted to ask my family first. Please check out my fundraising page and help me reach my goal of $1,000 by making a donation here. (link) Any support you can give will mean so much to me. Thanks for reading and helping me fundraise for local students in need. Love, Kiki Dear friends and colleagues, I’m fundraising for my favorite nonprofit, The Education Partnership. If you know me or have seen me sneak out of the office to volunteer, you know I love helping local teachers and students who receive supplies from The Education Partnership. I have enjoyed meeting with teachers and supporting their work with students by donating my time restocking as they gather school supplies for their classroom. I want to help The Education Partnership continue their programs and help more students in the area. To learn more about why I love The Education Partnership, go to my fundraising page and please make a donation to help me reach my goal. Since this is the fourth year I have been volunteering with The Education Partnership, I want raise $400. Anything you can give will help! Thanks for helping and have a good day! Social Media Examples: Hey Friends! You might not know that I’m walking for The Education Partnership during the Highmark Walk in May. I decided to make this walk more meaningful by running and fundraising for the low-income students I teach. By supporting The Education Partnership, I am providing my students, and over 45,000 other students critical school supplies. Please help me support other students and teachers by donating to my fundraising page! (link) local kids don’t have basic school supplies. Let’s fix that. Education has always been extremely important to me personally and I am so excited to fundraise for an organization that puts quality educational tools in low-income schools. As a volunteer, I regularly see the value of The Education Partnership’s work. Every time I see teachers get a a classroom set of supplies, I know that these programs are supporting local students and the greater Pittsburgh community. Donate to help me reach my goal of $500!
