School vision and context School vision statement School context Paxton Public School aim for excellence by providing a safe and inclusive learning Paxton Public School, with a current enrolment of 76 students, is located on large grounds environment that promotes high expectations and strong connections to community and in a semi-rural setting, approximately 10km from Cessnock in the Hunter Valley. Student culture. numbers have increased by 37% over the last three years with an enrolment of 48 in 2018. From 2020 to 2021, student numbers increased by 35% due to a significantly large cohort of 19 Kindergarten students. We anticipate 2021 enrolment numbers will be maintained due to growing cohorts in all years and our increase in families. Currently we have 55 families, compared to 44 in 2020. Our Aboriginal student population has fluctuated over the last three years from 17-22%. In 2021, 22% of students identify as Aboriginal as well as two of our teaching staff. We have one EAL/D student. Our 2020 FOEI was 127, an average of 2019 (140) and 2020 (113) and is trending down. The 2018-2020 school plan focused on continual school improvement through personalised learning for students and staff in literacy and numeracy, supportive practices to engage learners by strengthening connections, and working collaboratively with our school and wider communities. We were successful in attaining the planned improvement measures. Through our situational analysis we identified the elements of the School Excellence Framework (SEF) that needed the most improvements and have developed our 2021-2024 School Plan accordingly. We have developed our initiatives by listening to student, staff and community voice and will be using our agreed Network and internal targets as improvement measures to drive our next steps. The Centre for Excellence and Statistics Evaluation (CESE) publication 'What's Works Best' has been used to consolidate our practices. There will be a strong focus on student growth and attainment to improve the academic outcomes for all of our students. We will focus on the SEF elements of Learning (Learning culture, Curriculum, Assessment, Reporting and Student performance measures), Teaching (Data skills and use, Professional standards and Learning and development) and Leading (Educational Leadership and School resources). We have identified the need to improve student engagement and wellbeing through refining our whole school approach to student wellbeing and behaviour management. We will focus on the SEF elements of Learning (Learning culture and Wellbeing), Teaching (Effective classroom practice, Professional standards and Learning and development) and Leading (Educational Leadership, School resources and Management practices and processes).
