Welcome To GOOD SHEPHERD Catholic Church Menomonee Falls, WI The Lord Has Revealed to the Nations, “ This is what the Lord asks of you: to act justly, God’s Saving Power to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8 In the course of the 3-year cycle of readings and psalms, including May 9, 2021 solemnities, psalm 98 is used six times. The refrains vary as well as the selection of verses, and hymns “All the Ends of the Earth” and “Sing a New Song” are based on this psalm. On this 6th Sunday of Easter, Year B, the psalmist calls us to sing a new song. “Peter’s actions in the Acts of the Apostles leads to a new age in the life of the church and within the history of salvation as both Jew and Gentiles join together in Jesus to praise and worship the living God.” (Adapted from Living Liturgy, 2021, pg. 125). We sing to you, O God, a new song, for you have done wonderful things! Your saving hand and your holy arm have given the victory. You have made known your salvation and have revealed your justice to the nations. You have remembered your love and your faithfulness for the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Make a joyful noise, all the earth, break forth into joyous song! Confirmed in the Spirit We are celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation with our wonderful youth and their families over 2 Masses during May. It is a beautiful celebration that includes our collaboration with St. James. Just as the Holy Spirit descended onto the apostles, the Spirit is with each of us and particularly with our Confirmandi on the blessed day of their Confirmation. As you pray for our Confirmandi, think about your own Confirmation Day. What do you remember? How important was it to you? How has the Holy Spirit strengthened the gifts in you ever since that day? How are you using your gifts today? How can you share those gifts with our Confirmandi, our parish, our Church, your family and even strangers? As we regularly tell our Confirmation students, it is not a graduation. Confirmation is just the beginning of an incredible journey with Jesus strengthened by the Holy Spirit where we are called to use our gifts to glorify God. Join me in praying for our Confirmandi: Dear God, Give our young adults a heart for Christ, that they may use these gifts to live and spread the good news of Jesus wherever they may go in life. May their sponsors become integral companions on their journey, sharing with them the life of Christ in the Sacraments and in daily living. May their families and church communities throughout life encourage them in faith and be encouraged by them, minister to them and be ministered to by them. Amen When you see these new, young adults in the Catholic Church, please congratulate them. Please continue to support them as they discover the gifts that the Holy Spirit has poured out for them in their lives today and in their future.
