COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION 1st & 3rd Monday • Art of Storytelling Kimberley Luces Pathways 2:00pm Join Kim as she tells stories and folktales from around the world, with visual props. Art of Dance Tangie Brooks 4th Friday • 11:00am Activity Room Ballet, Waltz, Tango, Cha Cha and countless other styles of dance will be explored. Many of us have enjoyed going to dance halls, but not many always realize all of the details and intricacies that go along with these well-known styles of dance. During this program we will take an inside look into the steps behind the dance. Cooking through the 2nd Wednesday • Anthony Jones Activity Room Countries 1:45pm Join our Rockland chef, Chef, as he takes our taste buds around the world preparing food from China, Germany, Europe and Spain. You do not want to miss out on these authentic dishes that will certainly please your pallet. America's Greatest Kimberley Luces 4th Wednesday • 2:00pm Activity Room Landmarks Throughout the country we have many wonderful landmarks, join Kim as we virtually travel the country and visit these beautiful landmarks. Current Events Maria Boslego Wednesdays • 6:30pm Activity Room Come share your thoughts and ideas on today's news. John Williams, a prominent lawyer in Delaware will keep you up to date on all the happenings of today through reviewing headlines, reading newspapers and participating in lively discussions and debates. 2nd Wednesday • Famous Cities Community Life Activity Room 11:00am When you think of cities that offer a wide variety of entertainment and things to do, what pops in your mind? How about New York City, Chicago, Las Vegas and Nashville? There are countless cities that offer things to do for the art enthusiast, the adventurer and the history buff and the previously mentioned cities absolutely check all of these boxes. Join us as we explore the sites and sounds of these popular places.
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Fitness & Food Trends Maria Boslego 2nd Tuesday • 3:15pm Activity Room The Keto Diet, waist trainers, 24 hour gyms and homemade facial creams are some of the latest trends. During this class we will take a look at how fitness trends have changed over time and which ones are still going strong. Flower Power Tangie Brooks 1st Friday • 11:00am Pathways All flowers have their own special meaning and story. During this program, we will showcase roses, carnations, tulips, and hibiscus flowers to name a few. Each program will detail their true meaning and maintenance tips while providing both emotional and sensory stimulating feelings. Gardens of the World Community Life 3rd Friday • 11:00am Activity Room The beauty of flowers is something most can appreciate. It is amazing how based on the season the flower displays change and are updated. On this floral adventure we will visit some of the most well- known gardens and how they turn "simple flowers" into works of art. Health Trivia with LaChelle Garcia 1st Tuesday • 11:00am Activity Room Bayada This informal informational gathering will focus on health related items such as slips, trips and falls, proper exercise techniques and how common health concerns can impact our well-being. This class is a great way to learn how you can enhance your health and quality of life, while also asking questions from a professional. Healthy Bites Maria Boslego 3rd Monday • 2:00pm Activity Room Fruit, Tomato & Mozzarella, Pop Chips, Hummus and many more snacks can satisfy your craving, but not expand your waist line. The healthy bites served during this class will expand your view on snacking for a healthy life style. History of ... Maria Boslego 1st Monday • 3:15pm Activity Room Ice Cream, potato chips, pretzels and chocolate are some of our most favorite snacks and sweets. This mouth-watering, tummy satisfying class will go a step beyond tasting these treats and give us a look into their history and evolution.
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION 3rd Wednesday • Hollywood Heartthrobs Community Life Activity Room 11:00am There are certain Hollywood stars that have that "it" factor. During this 4-part course we will focus on the lives of Audrey Hepburn, Clark Gable, Bette Davis and John Wayne. These Hollywood Heartthrobs certainly grabbed the attention of the public, not only for their acting abilities, but also their stunning looks. Kintz Classic Movie Jim Kintz 2nd Tuesday • 1:40pm Second Floor Lounge Our Maintenance Director, Jim, is a film buff and loves sharing his passion for movies with everyone. Follow the movies from the days of glamour and class. Discuss actors, directors, and the making of a movie. Spend a nice afternoon with a good flick. Kitchen Inventions Tyhisha Caine 3rd Monday • 2:00pm Activity Room Of course there are well-known items such as a can opener and a dishwasher that everyone knows about, but what about some newer items as well. The Salad Spinner, Nutri-Bullet, and a premium slicer are some of the many unique and new gadgets that will be explored. Perhaps the best part will be tasting what these gadgets make! Famous Love Stories Kimberley Luces February 12th • 11:00am Activity Room In anticipation of Valentin's Day, we will take a spin through history's greatest lovers - star crossed, cursed, life-long, and everything in between. Join us as we discuss the 20 greatest real life love stories from history. Low Impact Fitness Maria Boslego Wednesdays • 10:00am Activity Room Join us for this 30 minute exercise program as we strengthen your muscles and body. Low impact workouts are typically easier on the body, especially our joints, and can be a great way to get in a heart- pumping workout while reducing the risk of injury – so join us today on the road to health!
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Marketing & Social Mitzi Burnett 1st Friday • 2:00pm Brandywine Room Media Did you ever think why did I buy this? Why did I feel the need to make this? Why am I craving this? It is all due to marketing and social media. Print ads, commercials, radio spots, Facebook, Pinterest, and many other outlets are all responsible for why we tend to gravitate to certain items and are influenced to make purchases. This class will surely be an eye opener to say the least! Every Other Tuesday • Mind & Balance Community Life Activity Room 10:00am During this exercise program, we will complete fluid exercise motions, while recognizing our breathing techniques and rate. We all need balance in our lives and during this program we will focus on the body and the holistic approach to health. Mixed Media Community Life 4th Thursday • 6:00pm Activity Room In this course you will use a small coloring photo as the beginning of a painting. A colorful square photo will be selected that has elements that can be continued, such as a flower or horizontal lines! Time to test your artistic talents and have some fun! Music in Motion Community Life Weekends • 11:00am Activity Room It truly is the magic of music, which offers a healing power. Music can ease pain, motivate individuals, improve motivation, increase endurance and even enhance blood vessel function. This exercise program will help us get our bodies into a cardiac rhythm when upbeat tunes are played and help us to wind-down and relax when more melodic songs are played. During part of the program, we will incorporate musical instruments into our routine. Now Trending Angela Deans 3rd Friday • 2:00pm Activity Room Who won the big game? What is the latest tech craze? Is there a new Fad Diet? What happened around the world? Each month we will talk about the latest topics that are trending on the internet and in the news.
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Nutrition 101 Lachelle Garcia 3rd Tuesday • 3:15pm Activity Room Nutrition is the science that interprets the nutrients and other substances in food in relation to maintenance, growth, reproduction, and health. Learn the food groups, foods can be grouped into three main categories and keep it colorful Remembering Martin Maria Boslego January 20 • 11:00am Activity Room Luther King Jr. Did you know that Martin Luther King Jr. entered college at the age of 15 or that he was nearly imprisoned 30 times? Of course we all know him for his work with the Civil Rights Movement and his "I have a Dream" speech, but let's take a deeper look at honoring a man that left his mark on history and forever changed the world. Sing & Share with Tangie Tangella Brooks 4th Monday • 10:45am Brandywine Room Joan enjoys sharing her passion for music, psalms, and poetry as she leads a spiritual gathering. The program focuses to strengthen your beliefs and passions, while providing the opportunity for deep thought and reflection. Song Genre Community Life 4th Thursday • 11:00am Brandywine Room Everyone knows that there is magic in music. It has a way of unlocking something inside of us all. With that being said everyone has their own musical taste which is why this course will explore the musical genres of jazz, country, classical and spiritual. Stretch & Flex Community Life Fridays • 11:00am Activity Room Stretching, in its most basic form, is a natural and instinctive activity. People often stretch instinctively after waking from sleep or after long periods of inactivity. There are many benefits associated with stretching. During the program, we will do stretches that focus on increased circulation, alleviate back pain, increasing flexibility and balance, and improve cardiovascular health. Time to Tone Maria Boslego Mondays • 10:00am Activity Room Toning your body doesn’t just improve your overall appearance, but can help your posture, give you more energy, give you more confidence, and can even help prevent certain diseases. Join Maria as she leads the class on exercise moves that will strengthen and tone the body.
COURSES FACULTY DAY AND TIME LOCATION Travel the World Maria Boslego 3rd Thursday • 11:00am Brandywine Room You name it we will go on an adventure there. We have all been fortunate to travel the globe to some well known and exotic destination. At the end of every session we will spin the globe and see where our next travel location will be. Sometimes it is fun to be spontaneous and go on a trip with no set plan in mind. Watercolor Wonders Community Life 1st Thursday • 6:00pm Activity Room If you are an experienced artist, just beginning or have an appreciation for art then this is the perfect course for you! Watercolor painting is an art form that creates artistic representations, usually on paper, using pigments that are water soluble. You do not have to be Picasso or Matisse to have a good time and test out your artistic talent! Whole Body Exercise Community Life Thursdays • 10:00am Activity Room From the top of our heads to the tip of our toes we are going to give our entire body a workout during this program. Some programs focus on cardio, while others focus on strength training. This class provides us with the opportunity to work out our large muscle groups, but also places importance on some that may be forgotten such as our hands, fingers and ankles. Women of the Women's History Month March 23rd • 11:00am Activity Room Community Women's History Month is an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. There are too many powerful women that have made an impact on our world. From world leaders and actresses to business women and stay at home moms - this is a class to celebrate these amazing women and the contributions they have made and continue to make on a daily basis.
Faculty Biographies NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Maria Boslego Various Courses Community Life assistant Maria, has worked in the health care field for several years. In Maria’s spare time she enjoys spending time with family, being active, and also enjoys fashion! Maria is an excellent addition to our team! Anthony Jones Cooking through the Countries Rockland's Head Chef, Frank, has always had a passion for cooking and enjoys trying out different recipes. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with family and friends and always enjoys trying new food dishes. Tyhisha Caine Kitchen Inventions Ty is such an amazing team member and her dedication to Rockland is simply impressive. She began at Rockland Place as a dining server and then became the dining room manager and then tested her skills behind the scenes a bit more cooking our meals. And now she is currently one of our Dining Directors. Sequoia Reed Simple Crafts with Sequoia If you want to find someone who is crafty and talented look no further than Sequoia - she enjoys making personalized tervis cups, coffee mugs, making skirts and embroidering. Not only is she super crafty, but she enjoys getting to know everyone on a personal level and making them feel special. Everett Robinson Various Courses Everett has such a creative mind and passion. In his spare time he enjoys cooking, dancing and performing. He certainly excels at all things to do with the performing arts and that passion is felt when he leads Community Life programs as well. Kimberley Luces Various Courses Kimberley is currently the Community Life Director at Rockland Place and is a nationally certified Activity Director. Kimberley oversees the programming that takes place in Assisted Living, Our Place, and Pathways. Kimberley enjoys crafting, and is an expert DIYer. Shirl Williams Must Love Candy Shirl is a server in our dining room who loves all types of candy and always enjoys trying new types. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with family and friends.
NAME OF INSTRUCTOR CLASS NAME Lachelle Garcia Health Courses LaChelle is the Rockland Place Director of Nursing and is currently attending school to obtain her Master's Degree. LaCelle is very health conscious and loves to share her knowledge on nutrition and overall health. Tangella Brooks Various Courses Tangella is one our Rockland's community life assistance, that provides special programming for our resident's in the Our Place Neighborhood. Tangella is full of energy, love and compassion. Tangella loves to travel, and spend times with family. She has a heart of gold and room for everyone.
