The trailblazer of Singapore’s cinema industry, Golden Village revolutionized the Republic’s movie-going experience when the curtain was raised on Singapore’s first 10-screen multiplex in Yishun on 28 May 1992. Today, Golden Village operates 10 multiplexes, housing 81 screens island-wide. In the two decades since establishing a presence here, GV has achieved numerous accolades and accomplishments. Breaking New Ground in the Cinema Experience In 1999, GV launched the island’s first premium cinema, Gold Class, which quickly became the epitome of luxury film viewing, complete with plush recliners, concierge services and exclusive access to our Gold Class lounge stocked with a selection of fine food and wines. In 2006, GV scored another first when it brought in the ultimate big screen experience to Singapore with the launch of GVmax. Located at GV VivoCity,
Singapore’s first cinema megaplex, it was among the largest screens in Asia with a width of 22.4 metres and a seating capacity of 602. The cinema chain also paved the way for environmental stewardship by integrating eco-awareness into its business operations. In 2010, GV reinvented the 18-year old GV Yishun as Asia’s first green multiplex, earning itself a BCA Green Mark Gold Award. GV demonstrated its appreciation for Singapore’s heritage by designing the first Peranakan-inspired boutique cinema. GV Katong opened its doors in 2011 and became the anchor cinema in an area that has been underserved for over 20 years. In a nod to Katong’s early residents, GV Katong offers a Peranakan-inspired Gold Class menu, serving up a fusion of nostalgic and modern flavours. Technology Pioneers GV are pioneers in applying new technologies to improve the cinema-going experience. GV was the first to offer the convenience of remote ticketing services through telephone bookings (1992), online ticketing (1997), self-service ticketing kiosk (2001) and mobile ticketing (2010). Delivering Movie Entertainment for Everyone Golden Village keeps pace with the needs of its patrons by engaging fans via the GV Movie Club (2007), Singapore’s first movie loyalty program with more than 425,000 members. To improve accessibility, GV added wheelchair-friendly infrastructure to its multiplexes and has been a leading host of film festivals since 1995. In addition to screening a wide range of film genres, GV has held LIVE screenings of sporting and entertainment events. 20 Years and Beyond “In the 20 years since our establishment, GV has set the standard for world class movie-going in Singapore. In the years to come, GV will continue to delight cinema- goers by creating exciting and innovative experiences. Golden Village looks forward to celebrating another 20 remarkable years in Singapore”, said Mr. Kurt Rieder, Chief Executive Officer of Golden Village.
